Using hdmi -> USB-c converter for a laptop

I want to be able to play my switch on my laptop. If I use a HDMI to USB-C adapter, and plug in my dock to a source of external power, will it work? I dont need all the features of a capture card.

I’m pretty sure those adapters are designed to work the other direction (usb-c input, hdmi output) so it’s likely that your idea won’t work.
