I wanted to reapplicate thermal paste but idk what is this sponge, can I take it off and then stick it back somehow after applying the paste? And what it is for?

Its there to make the fan more efficient
The oled version of the switch does not have that and you shouldnt have any issues with taking it off, if you have the meanings to replace them of course go ahead feel free to but its not that critical to have it there

Most likely will crumble
As i said the OLED version of the switch does not have that and both switches have the same components
So i dont think anything bad will happen if they wont be there
But again if you have the meanings for it you can replace these
