#Need JRPG or JRPG-like recommendations

I am looking for a JRPG (or at least a JRPG-like) game with these features:

  1. Preferably turn-based fights, but not a must
  2. Long story would be nice
  3. Optional but fun minigames
  4. Some kinda space/sci-fi theme would be very nice

If possible, without:

  1. Time limit/management (e.g. Persona's calendar/day system) - I like doing stuff and grinding at my own pace.

Also, I don't mind some grinding. One example such a game would be Star Ocean: Till the End of Time (shame it's not ported to Switch) which I loved so much back in the day despite not having turn-based battles.

I was legit eyeing Xenoblade Chronicles and the 2nd game. Are they recommended? Or perhaps there are other games matching my preferences? Thanks in advance!

I don't see what's wrong with Xenoblade

it's not turn based, XC1 story is not long but paced perfectly, no optional minigames come to mind, it's kinda sci fi yes

Only a PS5 exclusive can probably fit your criteria well if not Persona which is Final Fantasy Remake trilogy aside from turn based

Atlus is gonna release a game called Metaphor: ReFantazio that may or may not actually fit your criteria perfectly. Coming out next year but no confirmed date

Currently looking at SMTV and FFX/X-2 Remaster. Though SMTV seems like a pretty hard game.

#

Also I've finished Arceus btw.

While I like Persona games, currently not in the mood for its calendar/day system where you have a deadline.

No guarantees it's making it to Switch though

Ah yea. Can't really consider it rn since there's no switch port yet unfortunately.

Some of these aren’t all turn based but I still added them. Star Ocean First Departure has a really good story and is like a sci fi meets fantasy setting. Also, I would imagine a few of these will have big sales and can be grabbed for cheap too.

FF10 fits the criteria nicely

#

idk if the minigames are actually fun because I heard blitzball specifically sucks

Ah yes, FF10 seems like a really nice option. I remember playing it a bit during the PS2 era, but I don't think I've ever reached the game's halfway point. Will def consider it along with the older titles. Thanks for the recommendations!

FF7 fits your criteria nicely enough too when you wanna play something that's very old. It's my favourite Final Fantasy
