#Switch exhaust fan is going turbo mode handheld.

Hmm it sounds smooth though
It's quite common for people to get surprise on how fast that fan can spin
When I had my own switch I could play pretty much any game in handheld mode and it wouldn't be anywhere near that loud.
However, that was many years ago
But what you should know is:
- It should adjust the speed base on the temperature the sensor inside is detecting.
- Heavy scenes in certain game will force the Switch to generate a lot of heat.
- There's a safety limit. When the Switch reached a certain dangerous temperature, it will automatically shut off with an overheating error.
This is a very demanding game for the hardware, I assume.
Well, do you see the same issue with other games?
I can't play other games on the switch, I'll ask my friend to try one out because he has the cartridges at his house.
I only have my own copy of Tears of the Kingdom
But I'll ask him to try.
Thank you for at least reassuring that it isn't too serious.
I know what you can use to test lol
Go on the eShop
search for Dragon Quest Builders 2's demo
that game will always and always make the Switch fan get into "jet engine" mode
Sounds like a perfect way to kill your switch lol
Is it healthy for it to go into jet engine mode for a long period of time?
Could that potentially have consequences in its lifespan?
Fan has age, they will die eventually
thanksfully, easy to replace
Your question is common enough, I made it into a tag x)
VENTILATION & FAN
§ The Switch vents its internal heat by sucking air in from the intake vent on the back, and then blow out by the fan on the top vent. While the console is on the dock, air intake go through a channel under the cable cover. Airflow chart.
■ Good practices for ventilation
• The ambient temperature around the console should be kept at 5 to 35C.
• Keep the vents clear for better airflow.
• Do regular cleaning on the vents with a squeeze blower or compressed air can.
• Turn off the Switch when you have to store in enclosed space for a while.
■ Signs of concern
• The fan is making abnormal, grinding noises. It may be broken or has worn out and need to be replaced.
※ Note: The Switch fan can be surprisingly loud. It can get around 30-35 dB, but that is normal.
• The Switch showed an overheat error and shutdown (SoC reached 67°C). This is a safety feature to protect the components from reaching dangerous temperature threshold. Your Switch may have issue venting the heat.
■ Solution
You can open up the Switch to clean the fan internally, but putting in a new fan is the best solution. It is something you need to do eventually, and it's one way to "refresh" the life-cycle of the console.

■ DIY Repair

• eBay listing for OEM fan and tools.
• You should also consider replacing thermal paste, or use 1mm thermal pads for easier application.
Also, good news. My last thread didn't have much optimism about my friend getting his receipt for the switch. He found it, so all he has to do is send it in and hopefully they'll cover the cost of the repair with the warranty.
It is under 12 months old.
Wow, that's great then 😄
They automatically come with a warranty, right?
So 100% he should have a warranty on that
should be, yeah
Good.
but idk how it will work in this case, so good luck to him
Yeah, I hope things will go smoothly.
nintendo have their own policies and all that
