I just bought my very first switch today, and picked up splatoon 3 and Mario party superstars along side it. Have I made a good choice in picking up those two games with the console?
Also, is there any other games I should pick up with it that you would recommend getting?

Both great picks for you to grab! I love superstars and even though it's a little limited with only 5 boards you can still have a lot of fun with it. If you want other multiplayer games/online stuff Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Smash Ultimate are two really good picks and the DLC for both games adds a lot (smash one adds a lot of characters and stages and mario kart DLC adds new tracks and more characters with wave 5 coming out this summer and one more wave coming out later on)

keep in mind those 2 recommendations are party games, best of the best ones at that. Reconsider buying them if you don't have anyone to play with at all

but your first 2 choices are multiplayer so Smash and Mario Kart is great. Smash takes some time to learn because it's a fighting game

And yes, you did make 2 great starting choices for games! They’re two of the best games in their genre for the Switch

For solo play, I recommend Slay The Spire. P much everyone that has played it has poured so many hours into it including myself 🫡 and it’s still so much fun even after that.

For local co-op with up to 3 players, I recommend Team Sonic Racing. You can play the entire campaign mode together and if you’ve played any kart racer you’ll adapt to the controls in this one v quickly.
