I know street fighter 6 isnt on the switch, but since there is a pc port and it seems really cool to me, i want curious whether getting it might be more worth than Smash Bros. With Smash bros i kind of just wanna play as Ridley and other specific characters. What do you guys think?

I have both, love them both, but personally prefer SF6.

SF 6 is a traditional 2d fighter with some great, deep mechanics. I think it's one of capcoms best street fighters yet and it's solid at launch (something that hasnt always been true of street fighters).

#

They also added alternate "modern" controls for those new to traditional fighters, allowing you to pull of special moves in a very simple way (for example, with classic controls a fireball is down, down forward, forward, punch; with modern controls you just push the special button). Modern controls are basically like smash controls and you can even use them to play online (although your moves do a little less damage to balance things).

#

There are also dynamic controls which are basically one button context sensitive inputs if you need something easier (although you can't play others online using them).

#

I prefer SF6 but i like fighting games with deep mechanics, including traditional 2d fighters. I think SF6 has made it easy to onboard with great tutorials, in game guides, a very good training mode, and combo trials, but as with all traditional fighters it can be a lot for newcomers. Really getting good requires understanding fighting game concepts (which smash has to some degree, but not as deep or extensive as street fighter)

Smash is a great platform fighter that is very accessible and has a ton of fun characters from many game (not just nintendo). I would say there's less depth and very different feel to it, but it also includes things that SF doesn't, like the ability to play more than just 1v1 and to add items and weird rulesets.

Not necessarily worse, just different and depends on what you're looking for.

#

Honestly, I'd watch some beginners guides and then high level tournament play with commentary to see which you like

smash is super fun. I never played sf 6

Plans on what you wanna do with the game

#

Do you wanna play online, locally with friends, single player?

#

Do you have any experience with either franchise?

Ahh good point 👆🏾
At least regarding online play, SF6 is the clear winner (it has very good rollback netcode; smash is delay based netcode). Search youtube for an explanation if you want to see how they're different and why rollback is much better

Also another thing to add is that the best time to get into a fighting game is in the first couple months of release because everyone else is learning the game along with you

#

Also that’s when the game is the most alive

#

I wanna play online and i may find a chance to play locally, who knows

fiery bear
#

I’d say go with street fighter

#

Smash online is an infuriating experience and takes a really long time to actually be good at

buoyant turtle
#

How big of a difference is pc street fighter and ps5 street fighter though?

#

Im going with the pc one so i wanna know if thats even viable

fiery bear
#

I haven’t heard about pc issues

#

I only played the beta and plan on buying it eventually

buoyant turtle
#

Hm, well i guess i just gotta see how i should go about buying

#

Since i dont have a card just for online purchases

fiery bear
#

You can refund steam games if you played less than 2 hours

buoyant turtle
#

Yeah but as i said i dont have a card, and it is definitely asking me for way of purchase

#

I might just download the demo version and see if i like that

fiery bear
#

Yeah good choice

#

Also if you ever want to try out smash but with good online, there’s slippi which gives the GameCube smash game, melee, netcode on par with street fighter and has an extremely active player base

#

It’s completely free too

buoyant turtle
#

Oh the game cube one

#

Sounds very cool

#

Never owned a game cube in my life though

fiery bear
#

It’s an emulator on pc

#

So no need for a GameCube

buoyant turtle
#

Wouldn't that be completely illegal though?

fiery bear
#

Yup but who cares cause it’s not like the original is being sold officially anymore

#

If you wanna be morally correct about it you can buy the game and a Wii and dump the file for it

buoyant turtle
#

Honestly meant more in case of you saying it

#

thought talking about illegal emus on here was like breaking a sacred rule lmao

#

Thanks for the advice anyways

pallid nymph
#

idk if the action of emulating is

buoyant turtle
#

Thanks for advice
