#Prominent buzzing sound when using headphones
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Is there a difference between when you dock your Switch and in handheld mode?
yes, it doesn't do when when in handheld mode
Is there any particular setup you are doing on your Switch?
Or is it just straight up connecting a headphone to the 3.5mm audio port?
straight up
Can you do this and test again?
HOW TO RESET AC ADAPTER
If your console has issue with charging, no power or other power issue:
1. Unplug the AC adapter from the wall sockets and other devices.
2. Wait 30 seconds.
3. Plug the AC adapter back into the wall socket then back to the device you want to charge.

What headphones/speakers are you using?
Currently, I'm just using a 3.5mm cable going into my GoXLR
but it happens with headphones as well
and normally I'll just use the regular apple ones that you used to get with new phones
I need more info about the headphones you are using
It seems to be ground loop noise but it's strange it happens with headphones as well
That GoXLR mixer can create such issue, but that's different from just headphones
It also happens when I plug speakers in, if that means anything
I'm thinking the headphones you are using is too sensitive, it's picking up the electrical noise from the dock
hmm
There's also the chance your dock is having a short somewhere
Do the reset AC adapter first
after that, test and tell me the result
ok, I'll do that now
🐵 MONKEY MAGIC METHOD 🐒
※ Important: Follow these steps in exact order
While you are doing the steps, check if there's any loose, damaged, improper placed cables. Take the chance to clean the jacks on the cable and the HDMI ports as well.
- Unplug all the cables (HDMI, AC Power Adapter) and remove the Switch from dock.
- Unplug the AC adapter from the wall socket.
- Turn off the TV/Monitor.
- Wait 30 seconds.
- Connect your AC adapter cable to the dock.
- Connect your AC adapter to the wall outlet.
- Connect your HDMI cable to the dock.
- Connect your HDMI cable to the TV/Monitor.
- Dock your Switch.
- Turn on TV/Monitor.
We can filter this noise, but this is not a normal behavior.
should I unplug it form the dock or just the wall?
Follow the monkey steps instead
ok
unplug from everything at least once
btw, when you are doing that
check to see if there's any loose cables/port
and look how your cable travels, if they cross each other, they can create interference
Still, normally, shielding on your audio equipment as well as the Switch is enough to avoid this
I doubt it'll be that because this has been happening for over a year and I've completely re-done my setup in that time but I'll check anyway
Do you have any other issue? power-related issue in particular?
not apart from joycon drift
oh and try cleaning the USB-C jack/port on the Switch and dock
CLEANING GUIDELINES
§ Cleaning is not only a way to maintain hygiene but can also help prolonging the life of your console. Be sure to turn off the Switch before cleaning. And wait for any excess liquid to dry before using it.
■ For daily cleaning: Nintendo recommends using a soft cloth (microfiber is best), dampen with a bit of water, wipe gently on the surface of the console. Avoid any abrasive cleaning cloth, random cleaning compound/liquid.
■ Air vents: Clean the air vents regularly will help maintaining good ventilation, prevent overheating. You should use a squeeze blower or compressed air can to blow at the vents from an angle before wiping them.
■ For a throughout cleaning/disinfection: Please use Isopropyl alcohol (IPA), commonly known as "rubbing alcohol" (but not to mistake with ethanol). IPA 70% is most suitable, you can dilute it with water if you can't find the exact %. IPA 90% or higher % may damage rubber/plastic due to its mild solvent property. Dampen on a microfiber cloth before wiping. Do not spray directly on the device. Use q-tips for small areas.
■ To clean electrical contacts in hard-to-reach areas: Please use specialize electrical contacts cleaner spray. Useful for electrical contacts on the rails, or fixing Joy-con's joystick drifting.
Let me know if anything changed when you have done these things
I've just done the monkey steps thing and it didn't work
could it just be that my switch is kinda bust? (I've had it since 2017 so I wouldn't be surprised)
We don't know yet. Do you happen to have access to another dock to test?
no I don't
Hmm can you find a different power outlet to plug this thing in?
Something as far away from the current outlet
I could but I have to use this one for the main part so I don't know if that will be a good idea
It's just a test
The problem can be from 3 things:
- The power outlet.
- The dock.
- The Switch.
We need to test each one
Ok, do u mind if we pick this up tomorrow (my time) because it's getting kinda late and I've gotta go to bed
Thanks! Talk soon
Hey! I've just woken up and I'm about to play some Tokt but it's not doing the buzzing anymore! I don't know what's happened but I think we fixed it!!! Thank you so much for your help
