I’m pretty sure i did everything correct, HDMI input into the switch then output to the computer screen however, the output is not like an hdmi as it’s different but i thought it would still work.

I put it in and the screen didn’t respond to my switch, how?

Are you using a capture card?

#

Since most laptops HDMI port is a "Output" port to connect to other monitors

restive mica
#

Oooh, one of these? Then nop

oak scroll
#

Aah, let me explain you, Most laptops (Actually all of them) which have HDMI port are not meant for INPUT, They're meant for outputting to a bigger monitor

#

So Connecting your switch to them wont do you any good

restive mica
#

Yeah okay

Then you don’t need a capture card

restive mica
#

Hmm

ornate vapor
#

Check your monitor’s manual for instructions on how to switch to a different input

restive mica
#

it looks like this

ornate vapor
#

Those pictures tell me nothing

oak scroll
#

Since you might be connecting it your PC then. You have to connect it to the Monitor ports

#

I assumed you were using a Laptop Earlier hence I mentioned the capture cards, my bad on that.

restive mica
#

No worries

ornate vapor
#

@oak scroll never make assumptions

restive mica
#

I might be confused on the port part

#

I assume i need to connevt the monitor to my computer?

#

Connect*

oak scroll
#

No No

restive mica
#

Okay

oak scroll
#

Just the HDMI from the switch to the monitor.

#

It acts as a TV screen basically.

ornate vapor
#

Also that plug you’re showing us on the monitor side is a DisplayPort plug, not HDMI

restive mica
oak scroll
#

Dude, I meant the port from the "Monitor"

restive mica
#

OH, my bad i get it

oak scroll
#

Your PC is not involved at all in this case, Its just how you'd plug your Switch to a regular TV screen.

ornate vapor
restive mica
#

Okay

ornate vapor
#

Do you have an HDMI to DisplayPort cable?

restive mica
#

So it won’t work on a display port

oak scroll
#

You need a converter.

restive mica
#

Nope

restive mica
ornate vapor
#

Then you need to buy an HDMI to DisplayPort cable. No converter necessary

restive mica
#

Okay

#

Wait hold on a sec

#

You mean this?

oak scroll
#

They're fairly cheep, Just make sure to get the ones which are reputable

restive mica

restive mica
ornate vapor
#

Okay. Does it work with other HDMI output sources?

restive mica
#

Hmm

oak scroll
#

test it with other sources, Could rule it out to be that the cable does not work.

restive mica
#

I haven’t tried, let me see if my tv has it,

restive mica
#

Well i don’t think the cable works

#

I have another monitor but nope, says the same thing

oak scroll
#

Theres your answer

#

Suggest picking up a new cable

restive mica
#

Oh well

#

Yeah, might need a new one

oak scroll
#

Let me know if you have any more questions here.

restive mica
#

Nope, thanks for your help 🙂
