Hello,

I've noticed something wrong with the resolution. Everytime I undock and dock back the switch the screen will always reset back to 480p. My monitor can display 1080p just fine if I use it normally, I have no issues browsing the net and the screen is fine but it's different when I use my switch.

I sometimes have to keep using the monkey magic method (https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/22264/kw/dock) to be able to use 1080p again or replug the wires. I use the monkey magic more often though because sometimes the dock would just also forget i placed the switch in (the green LED would still be there)

Forcing the resolution by choosing Auto > 1080p doesnt work either, because the console "thinks" it can only maximize to 480p which it would automatically select.

Is my dock acting up? Or is it the wires?

# strange cedar One of these days, a customer support person from Nintendo will be very confused...

Haha I only referred it like that because it was easier to type.

Anyways I tested my Switch on a different dock (connected to the TV) and placed a different switch on my dock. Seems like the issue could be on my own switch :/ it just wouldn't change the resolution to 1080p. But it's strange because it can clearly do so if I fiddled around with it, it can clearly still use 1080p.

This happens only when docked. On handheld it can display 720p just fine.

#

but yeah if I did those steps that Nintendo recommends it'll fix it for some reason

nvm update idk if the monkey magic method is working

#

I'm thinking if I should do a complete reset to my console

init

HOW TO INITIALIZE WITHOUT DELETING SAVE DATA

§ Initialization is a semi-format solution that will wipe all the data on your Switch, except for save data, screenshots, and your user account information, then restore the system software back to its original state. It will help eliminating software issues.

※ Note: This process will delete all games' install data and pictures/videos stored on your microSD card, since it will format your card . Your save data will be safe. You can backup or move the data around in System Setting ⚙️ > Data Management.
⚠︎ Exception: Animal Crossing: New Horizon's save data will be lost through this process. Please backup or transfer your ACNH's save data before attempting this.

1. Ensure the console is power off.

If the console does not respond, hold down the POWER Button for twelve seconds to force it to shut down.
2. With the console powered off, press and hold down the Volume up (+) and Volume down (-) buttons, then press the POWER Button to turn the system on.
Keep holding down the Volume buttons until the menu for Maintenance Mode appears.
---Stop here if you just want to access Maintenance/Recovery mode---

3. Once in Maintenance Mode, select Initialize Console Without Deleting Save Data.

If a Parental Control PIN has been set for the system, you will be prompted to enter it to proceed.
4. Read through the information, then select Next > Initialize Console Without Deleting Save Data.

If this doesn't work, then it's a hardware issue

Btw, have you tried changing the TV/Monitor or using a different port on the TV?

#

or using a different HDMI cable?

#

Or cleaning those ports/jacks?

#

I should put these into the monkey tag

Although normally, these are only for cases where the signal was lost suddenly

#

Not for your issue in particular

clean

CLEANING GUIDELINES

§ Cleaning is not only a way to maintain hygiene but can also help prolonging the life of your console. Be sure to turn off the Switch before cleaning. And wait for any excess liquid to dry before using it.

■ For daily cleaning: Nintendo recommends using a soft cloth (microfiber is best), dampen with a bit of water, wipe gently on the surface of the console. Avoid any abrasive cleaning cloth, random cleaning compound/liquid.

■ Air vents: Clean the air vents regularly will help maintaining good ventilation, prevent overheating. You should use a squeeze blower or compressed air can to blow at the vents from an angle before wiping them.

■ For a throughout cleaning/disinfection: Please use Isopropyl alcohol (IPA), commonly known as "rubbing alcohol" (but not to mistake with ethanol). IPA 70% is most suitable, you can dilute it with water if you can't find the exact %. IPA 90% or higher % may damage rubber/plastic due to its mild solvent property. Dampen on a microfiber cloth before wiping. Do not spray directly on the device. Use q-tips for small areas.

■ To clean electrical contacts in hard-to-reach areas: Please use specialize electrical contacts cleaner spray. Useful for electrical contacts on the rails, or fixing Joy-con's joystick drifting.

repair

HARDWARE REPAIR INFORMATION

Please click on the links below to read more about hardware repair options.

[👉 Nintendo Repair Service](#986637761916317707 message)
Nintendo offers their own repair service for free within warranty period and with cost when warranty has expired. Joycon's repair are often free, regardless of warranty. Their service is often more reliable, with original replacement parts, but is more expensive.

[👉 Independent Repair Service](#986637761916317707 message)
A local, independent repair service may offer faster return time, cheaper and doesn't need warranty nor official support. Although finding a good local repair service needs some effort.

[👉 DIY Repair](#986637761916317707 message)
Requires skills, tools and experience, but DIY repair is always an option.

which is why I say it's inconvenient, I can definitely play 480p on docked but it's so annoying

#

re: animal crossing saves, which Nintendo region should I contact? Thinking about calling up the US branch

#

and thankfully I already do know a few options for repair... still very sad though
