My son is 5 and loves minecraft and is really good at. The problem is we can't play online. It saying something in the parental controls won't let him play online. Any ideas/suggestions?

If his account is listed as under 13 then he can't
Parental control on the Switch is very annoying. I suggest setting up a fake account with fake birthdate so you can let them have full access to all the features.
Now if you think that's illegal, hear me out. You still have the ability to control what he has access to, via the Nintendo parental control mobile app, which help you monitor and control the entire console. It's easier to do and keep track compare to the built-in feature on the console.
