So my special edition Scarlet and Violet OLED is coming soon and I was wondering what I should do to protect the surface from getting scratched. I also noticed that on my normal Switch the back has become "shiny" and its not oil from my skin, but it seems that the soft touch has slowly rubbed off. A clear hard shell would be my first suggestion aswell,, the only problem is finding a good one. most of the ones you see on Amazon for example are incredibly cheap and might scratch the system before you even get it on, gotta dig to find some good ones.

A tempered glass screen protector would be the first thing you get.
But I'm curious about your Switch's backplate. Surely there's a specific reason why it became like that.
it looks like its a common thinghttps://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/8j8bsy/has_anyone_had_the_finish_on_the_switch_become/

The finish on the controller, yes. It's often near the buttons, but not on the back. Your case is unusual, that's why I'm curious.
Something has to be grinding on it to make it like that.
And cases are not the end all, be all protection. In fact, many of them can cause issues on their own. Such as debris stuck between the gap of the cases and the console, causing damage to the console.
Most of the time, your own habit of usage, cleaning, and maintenance, is the most important factor.
