#should I get a switch dust cover?
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
it will be fine, but if you live in a very dusty area, you can get one but use only while you don't use the dock, or the heat will be bad. Here's mine when I don't use it
(I played Nier with this yesterday, in a 26° room, and after 10 minutes I can hear the fan sound far from 2m lol)
Do note that even if your Switch is in sleep mode it can still generate heat.
Network activities
Especially if you are using an ethernet adapter
IMO, this kind of cover would be useful when you don't use the Switch for long and can disconnect it entirely from power (which can also be bad btw)
would a cover like this be better if I don’t want to plug and unplug my switch a lot?
It's still the same thing
Frankly, if you want to cover it like that, it will become more of a hassle
You have to disconnect power from it entirely to prevent heat build up. But then you will run into battery issue due to the Switch being inactive.
I'd rather just clean it once in a while.
oh okay, thank you for the insight on this!
If you want to read about the battery issue, check below
BATTERY ISSUE
§ If you leave the Switch inactive, not charging for a long period of time (1-2 weeks or more), the battery's voltage may drop too low and will refuse to be charged, leading to a "dead" Switch. This can also degrade the battery's life and cause battery % number fluctuate randomly.
👉 Please check Charging/Power guide for best charging practices
■ Solution for dead battery
- Unplug the AC adapter from the wall socket for 30 seconds then plug it back in. This is to reset the AC adapter.
- Plug the AC adapter directly into your Switch, not through the dock.
- Leave it to charge for 6-12 hours.
- Attempt to turn it on by holding the Power button for 15 seconds, then at the 15s mark, release your finger, press down once to turn it on. This is to bypass boot issue.
■ If the above steps didn't work
Your last resort is to replace the battery entirely, via a repair service or DIY.

■ DIY Repair
Replacing the battery is not complicated but still requires tools, skills and patience.
・ iFixit's video tutorial
・ Sosav's written guide
※ Note: Since replacing the battery will ruin the thermal paste of the Switch, you should consider reapplying the paste as well.

okay, thank you
i drop my switch about 2 weeks due to a far-from-home class, and my switch went from 100℅ to about 20℅, did my battery harm? ;-;
Hmm can you make a different thread? Each case has to be looked at individually
may I know how you clean the dust on your switch console and dock without opening the whole console/dock ?
last time I play my switch there's a small dust below my console when I unplug my console on the dock
Use a dust squeeze blower, we also have a small guide below
