SV for sure because incoming events and new mechanics, VGC will be used on gen 9. IMO, USUM and SM are great games, but not worth to buy a 3DS just for it

but 3DS games are excellent, and it still the best handheld console ever for me. You should look for another games on 3ds and check if you have an interest on them, if no don't waste money on 3ds

Personally won't buy Scarlet/Violet. Love Pokémon, spent like 600h on Shield but from what I've seen it's a copy/paste of Sword/Shield but fully open world, with ofc new Pokémons but outside of the "new" mechanics taken from Legends Arceus or Sword/Shield (Raids/Camping...) there is nothing really new so meh.

but if you don't have Sword or Shield, go for S/V
