Im guessing a problem with the hdmi
I can't stay for long but
check the LED on the corner of the dock
if it's staying lit then your dock and Switch is outputting HDMI signal correctly
do the steps below
🐵 MONKEY MAGIC METHOD 🐒
※ Important: Follow these steps in exact order
- Unplug all the cables (HDMI, AC Power Adapter) and remove the Switch from dock.
- Unplug the AC adapter from the wall socket.
- Turn off the TV/Monitor.
- Wait 30 seconds.
- Connect your AC adapter cable to the dock.
- Connect your AC adapter to the wall outlet.
- Connect your HDMI cable to the dock.
- Connect your HDMI cable to the TV/Monitor.
- Dock your Switch.
- Turn on TV/Monitor.

While doing the steps, check for any loose cables, ports, etc..
clean them if you need to
2nd thing you can try is to test your Switch+dock on a different TV/monitor
or test your Switch on a different dock, vice vesa
it would let you know which one is at fault
On my cousins dock it seems to have more luck in going to the tv then mine
But have you done the money tag steps on your own dock?
What’s a money tag
This thing

Oh no I haven’t done it yet
Surely a block of text appearing out of no where isn't something you can ignore?
Possible dirty USB-C port on your Switch
and dirty USB-C jack on your dock
but those steps may give more info
Okay I’ll do the method tmr and I’ll tell u what happens
What was the status of the LED on the dock during the time when you dock your Switch?
it was on
No blinking or anything eh?
Next test you can do is to open System Settings > TV settings
in there you gonna have 2 settings to test
Resolution and RGB settings
Change each of them to a different option, then for each time you change something, test the console on the dock
See if there's any option that can give a different result and tell me about it.
Aside from that, test your Switch+dock on a different TV/monitor
I see, then the problem maybe with the dock or worse, the Switch.
im starting to think its the switch aswell
i cant do the test right now unfortunately i can do it sunday tho
I meant, you did do it before, no?
well no i never knew the monkey magic trick until u told me
our way was just to put the switch and take off the switch from the dock annd just wish for luck
sometimes it would work but it would blink sometimes
Yeah that's enough, you don't have to do the monkey trick there
Hmm
blink as in the screen of the TV flicker?
Like it doesn't maintain output all the time?
no as in the switch suddenly stops showing for a split second then comes back on
or when it just suddenly stops
yeah that's flickering
sometimes but the last time i went it only did that once then never
but it did flicker
Alright, that sounds like your Switch does have issue
do you think changing the case could probably solve the issue
If you want to do this test further, test a different Switch console on your current dock.
huh why would it?
my switch has taken quite a beating my sister would accidentally drop my switch and now all the fans things are gone
its best i show it
but it worked even when it was like that
The fan's grill, isn't it?
yes
that wouldn't affect anything actually
oh okay good
it's there just to prevent big debris from getting into the Switch through the fan's hole
all 4 of the grills has been chipped off
But dropping damage can cause all sort of issues
Frankly speaking, I'd send that Switch console to repair if I were you.
or have a plan to replace it.
You can test the dock you have with a different Switch to confirm.
Unless you have warranty
damn nope no warranty
then you would have to pay for it :\
how much would it be?
For major issue, if you go through Nintendo, it's at least $99
damn ill have it repaired then but not until i test my dock
Alright, just in case I'll leave you this repair guide

[👉 Nintendo Repair Service](#986637761916317707 message)
Nintendo offers their own repair service for free within warranty period and with cost when warranty has expired. Joycon's repair are often free, regardless of warranty. Their service is often more reliable, with original replacement parts, but is more expensive.
[👉 Independent Repair Service](#986637761916317707 message)
A local, independent repair service may offer faster return time, cheaper and doesn't need warranty nor official support. Although finding a good local repair service needs some effort.
[👉 DIY Repair](#986637761916317707 message)
Requires skills, tools and experience, but DIY repair is always an option.

Yo, i have the same problem and i tried the method but id didn't work. Can you or someone help?
Sorry, I was a bit busy today. You have a thread up?
No
So what are you waiting for?
I did it
Okay it does work but it takes a couple of tries
So far I finally have it on my monitor running fine
No flicker yet
huh, you were doing the monkey methods again?
No I just disconnected the cord from my monitor and connected it again or I would lift the switch out of the dock and put it back in
But my cousins dock didn’t work well on Sunday so I used my dock and it worked
There was flicker but it wasn’t as bad and we played for I think 2 hours
His dock for some reason didn’t want to work so it was weird
Hmm you should try to clean your USB-C port
CLEANING GUIDELINES
§ Cleaning is not only a way to maintain hygiene but can also help prolonging the life of your console. Be sure to turn off the Switch before cleaning. And wait for any excess liquid to dry before using it.
■ For daily cleaning: Nintendo recommends using a soft cloth (microfiber is best), dampen with a bit of water, wipe gently on the surface of the console. Avoid any abrasive cleaning cloth, random cleaning compound/liquid.
■ Air vents: Clean the air vents regularly will help maintaining good ventilation, prevent overheating. You should use a squeeze blower or compressed air can to blow at the vents from an angle before wiping them.
■ For a throughout cleaning/disinfection: Please use Isopropyl alcohol (IPA), commonly known as "rubbing alcohol" (but not to mistake with ethanol). IPA 70% is most suitable, you can dilute it with water if you can't find the exact %. IPA 90% or higher % may damage rubber/plastic due to its mild solvent property. Dampen on a microfiber cloth before wiping. Do not spray directly on the device. Use q-tips for small areas.
■ To clean electrical contacts in hard-to-reach areas: Please use specialize electrical contacts cleaner spray. Useful for electrical contacts on the rails, or fixing Joy-con's joystick drifting.
