The operating system did take some space already. And beside that there are update data for your current games as well, despise them being cartridge games.
#i have no games on my native switch storage, but it says i only have 16.6 gb of storage.

Ah yep, some games have massive save data, there was a post on reddit, a guy managed to fill all of his internal memory with save data for a Lego game x)
