My officially licensed Sandisk 128gb microSDXC card has became full so I needed to upgrade. I put all the data onto my Mac. I then got my Sandisk Ultra 256gb microSDXC and put it onto my switch to format it. After that, I transferred all the data from my Mac onto my 256gb microSD card. When I put the 256gb sd card in the switch, it says that it is unable to access the microSD card. I’ve tried restarting the system and putting it back in but to no avail.

im not sure but i think ur computer corrupted the data
how
He just said he isn’t sure
hmm alright
He might actually be right since I found an old Reddit guide on macOS
Actually, he’s not. You can’t transfer data between SD cards like that with the Switch.
Try formatting the SD card inside the switch, then downloading your games from the eshop
what about everything on my old sd card?
It won’t work on the new SD card.
why not? I thought you could just transfer the Nintendo folder form one sd card to another
Nope. The data is cryptographically signed and the key is unique to each card.
Your save data is stored on the console, not the card
Yep
Any time
my switch was able to read my new card prior to transferring my data though

※ Note: microSD card only stores screenshots/video capture and games' install data. Save data is stored on the internal memory of the Switch.
■ How to properly format a microSD card to use on Switch console:
You will need a PC computer and a microSD card reader.
1. Use this software, SD Association's SD Memory Card Formatter, and format the microSD card using Overwrite option.
2. Format your microSD card again using your computer's Quick format feature. exFAT and FAT32 filesystem is preferred.
3. Put the microSD card into your Switch console and use the built-in function to format the card one more time.

■ If you suspect your microSD card is broken or fake/counterfeit, you can test using these software:
• Windows: H2Test (Read/Write speed test)
• Mac: Black Magic Disk Speed Test or F3XSwift
I can just format using my switch right
Yeah give that a go first
yeah I did it a while ago and it worked but once I added the data from my old sd card it stopped working
Anyway now the switch is reading my new empty 256 sd card
Congrats
Yup. You will.
