I haven’t played this starlink battle for atlas game in like a year and decided to re download it so I put the game card in and waited only to find that it said corrupted data had been found later telling me to go to Nintendo eshop????? It then gave me the option to buy the game AGAIN… but I already have the game card!!!

#

But... you haven't answered my question

#

Yes, I can tell you what to do, but I need information first

#

Otherwise, I don't even know where to start

lethal notch
full crane
#

I'm sorry but it's very hard to even understand your sentence here:
"Yes I use one and if turned the switch off, taken the card out, put it back in and turned it on again"

#

What card? and did it fix anything?

lethal notch
#

Oooooh

#

Ok so basically I did what the switch told me to do

#

Which was turn the switch off take it out, put it back in and turn the switch on

#

Nothing happened 💀

full crane
#

WHICH CARD?

#

the microSD card or the game's cart

lethal notch
full crane
#

;_;

#

Alright, geez

#

go to System Settings > Data Management > Manage software

lethal notch
#

Aight

full crane
#

You would see your game in there, delete it entirely

#

This doesn't touch your save data, just the game's install data.

#

And since it's a physical cartridge game, the data in there is just the update and DLC if it has.

full crane
#

After you have done it, turn off your Switch

lethal notch
#

Klm

full crane
#

Remove the microSD card, don't put it back in

#

And then turn on your Switch without the microSD card in it

#

Put the game back in, and try to start it

#

It may ask to download update data, DLC, etc...

#

let it does that, this time it will be installed into your internal memory because the microSD card is not in there

#

See if it can work or not

lethal notch
#

Kool, I’m having the same problem with cup head for some reason and it isn’t a cartridge game only one of em is

#

I’d I do the same thing?

#

Do*

full crane
#

Let's test this out first

#

Well, let me explain why

lethal notch
full crane
#

Weird, I swear it's manage software before

#

The data stored in your microSD card can be corrupted. This test we are doing above is basically removing the microSD card out of the equation.

#

Huh, it's Manage Software

#

Oh are you using it in a different language?

lethal notch
#

Nope

lethal notch
full crane
#

0_o can I have a screenshot?

lethal notch
#

Do I remove the sd card and then do all of this

full crane
#

Follow the steps I told you

#

Delete the game first before removing

lethal notch
#

Just to be sure I should see this right?

full crane
#

Haha what the heck, yeah I guess you are correct

#

You are in EU?

lethal notch
#

London

full crane
#

I see

#

Yeah, but don't delete Cuphead, just do it with Starlink, the one we are having issue with

#

Although this can be a solution, it's actually a test

#

We'll move onto a more throughout solution after

lethal notch
#

Cool

#

Ok I’ve deleted

full crane
#

I guess in UK region, that setting is really called "Software" instead of "Manage Software" in the NA region

#

Ok keep continuing

#

Remove the microSD card, don't put it back in
And then turn on your Switch without the microSD card in it
Put the game back in, and try to start it
It may ask to download update data, DLC, etc...
let it does that, this time it will be installed into your internal memory because the microSD card is not in there

lethal notch
#

Gawd Dayum

full crane
#

Ping me again when you are done

lethal notch
lethal notch
full crane
#

But... did it work or not?

lethal notch
#

So do I message u when the game finishes downloading?

#

Also after this am I able to transfer it over to my sd card

#

It’s coz my switch doesn’t have that much space lol

lethal notch
full crane
full crane
lethal notch
#

For some reason I can’t see ur messages but the ones I read it’ll take like a few hours to download so I’ll ping u then

full crane
#

What the... I wonder what's in that game's data

lethal notch
full crane
lethal notch
#

Aight 😁

lethal notch
#

The game downloaded and I’m hyped to relive some memories 🤩🤩🤩🤩

#

Now what?

full crane
#

tell me if it still gives you the error or not

lethal notch
#

Runned

#

And no error

full crane
#

Nothing went wrong, eh?

#

Well, good news is it's a pretty common issue, super easy to fix

#

bad news is you have to do some work lol

lethal notch
#

Hehe right

full crane
#

So it's pretty much just a corruption of data on the microSD card

#

some part of it was corrupted

lethal notch
full crane
#

To get rid of this issue entirely, you will have to format the card properly

lethal notch
#

Oof

#

How will I move all the save data?

full crane
#

Now first, you have to read through this tag below

data

SWITCH'S DATA ALLOCATION

・ All data, including games' install data (the game + DLC + Update), screenshots, gameplay capture videos, users' settings and save data are initially stored on the Switch's internal memory.

・ From the moment a microSD card is put into the Switch, all future games' install data, screenshots, gameplay capture videos will be stored into that microSD card. This will be applied to any other subsequent microSD card put into the Switch.

・ Past games' install data, screenshots, gameplay capture videos will not be automatically moved over to the newly inserted microSD card and will stay in the Switch's internal memory or previous microSD card. You can manually move them in System Settings ⚙️ > Data Management.

※ Important: Users' settings and Save Data will always remain on the Switch's internal memory and cannot be moved over to the microSD card.

・ In order to move data from one microSD card to another, type !tag sdt for a guide.

full crane
#

Tell me when you are done

lethal notch
#

Dun

full crane
#

Ok, now tell me do you want to keep the screenshot/gameplay capture video?

lethal notch
#

I never do that anyway so no

full crane
#

Nice, less work

#

Ok so now you know your save data is safe, yeah?

#

What we just need to do is simply format the card

#

MICROSD CARD FORMAT AND TEST

§ To fix Error Code: 2016-0641, data corruption issue. For fixing microSD card not recognized, broken microSD card reader please use tag sdr

※ Note: microSD card only stores screenshots/video capture and games' install data. Save data is stored on the internal memory of the Switch.

■ How to properly format a microSD card to use on Switch console:
○ You will need a PC computer and a microSD card reader.
1. Use this software, SD Association's SD Memory Card Formatter, and format the microSD card using Overwrite option.
2. Format your microSD card again using your computer's formatting feature. exFAT and FAT32 filesystem is preferred.
3. Put the microSD card into your Switch console and use the built-in function to format the card one more time.

■ If you suspect your microSD card is broken or fake/counterfeit, you can test using these software:
・ Windows: H2Test (Read/Write speed test)
・ Mac: Black Magic Disk Speed Test or F3XSwift

lethal notch
#

One question

full crane
#

Yep, go ahead

lethal notch
#

So for cup head I didn’t have nearly enough space to have it on internal memory

#

And so I moved it to my sd card

#

How do I see where all my save data is for my games?

full crane
#

Eh it's all on the internal memory

#

It's mentioned in the tag previously

#

All of your save data is stored on the internal memory, it doesn't involve the microSD card at all

lethal notch
#

Aaaah

#

So tell em what the sd card is for

#

On the tag moi bad

#

That makes perfect sense

#

Noice

full crane
#

When we format the card, all the games' install data and picture/video will be deleted

#

for games, you just need to redownload them, and when you run them again, it will load the save data from internal memory

#

for pic/vid, well, you don't want to save them anway

#

So continue on...

#

Check the formatting tag again

#

Read it and ask me question if you don't understand something

lethal notch
#

You’ve been a big help

#

One problem

#

My parents T’s u expectedly took us to a hotel

full crane
#

T?

lethal notch
#

So I can’t access my laptop 😅

full crane
#

So you are not near a computer with microSD card reader, right?

#

I see, hmm

lethal notch
full crane
#

Well, let me explain something

lethal notch
#

Not a reader they both at home imma have to wait till I’m outta here

full crane
#

The Switch has its own formatting feature, but it's very basic, it's only a soft-format and creating the folder structure for the console to use.

#

That's why Nintendo recommends that method in the tag I posted. What it does is basically do a full format, re-arranging things to make sure everything is good and swell. And then you would use the Switch's format feature again to create the folder structure.

#

So now that your microSD card has some data corruption, to fix it entirely you have to go through those steps.

#

But... you don't have to do it now.

lethal notch
full crane
#

I meant, right now, what you want is just to fix that game, and then keep it like that till you get home.

#

Just remember to do it when you get home

lethal notch
full crane
#

If you want to get this tag again, you can go to #command-central and type !tag sdf

#

and the bot will give you the tag again

#

try it now if you want

#

And if you completely forget about it, just make a new post in this channel and ask me again

lethal notch
#

Noice ver ver gud

#

Aight talk tomorrow then imma be here over night cheers fo the help m8

full crane
#

Alright, good luck

lethal notch
#

@full crane I have arrived and my peanut brain needs a bit of a run through on this sd card reformatting because for some reason my laptop has a slot for a micro sd card but it’s not staying in 😭😭

full crane
lethal notch
#

I think so 😅

full crane
#

take a pic of it for me

#

the microSD card slot, I meant

lethal notch
full crane
#

woah fast

lethal notch
#

Lol

full crane
#

Hmm I hope the spring inside is not broken

#

you got something that can help push it further in?

#

just a tiny bit further

lethal notch
#

Sure

#

Omg it’s on ther now it clicked

#

Now with the website to reformat the sd card I’m not sure where to go because there are so many things all over the place

full crane
#

Ok so...

#

let me go over it again

#

let me get you the link

lethal notch
#

I don’t know what fat 32 is tho

lethal notch
#

I know what to do just not where to press and go to

full crane
#

ok just download that software first

#

scroll down on that big ass TOS then accept, it will start download

lethal notch
#

So I did do it right ok I hav a file now

full crane
#

you know how to unzip it?

lethal notch
full crane
#

run the setup.exe file inside it

lethal notch
#

Oh dang am interface popped up

#

Card info ok I think I’m in

full crane
#

Select that and format

lethal notch
#

Kool

#

That’s it? Just press and format? Noice

full crane
#

Wait for it to finish

#

and let me know

lethal notch
#

It’s on 0% for a while is that normal?

#

Probs my internet

full crane
#

No, it's just doing a lot of stuffs

#

and no, lol, it doesn't use the internet for it

#

just overwriting all the old data with random data

#

It's basically wiping your card clean and re-organize

#

I may go to sleep soon. So I'll just tell you what to do next here.

#

@lethal notch
Once that formatting is done, next step is to open Windows' Explorer, then right click the microSD card, select Format....

#

On File System, select either FAT32 or exFAT

#

Tick Quick Format

#

then press Start

#

let that format finish

#

then put the card back to your Switch, it will ask to format the card again, follow that

#

And then start redownloading your games. That's it.

lethal notch
#

This gonna take a while 😭😭😭

tight wren
#

It does..

lethal notch
full crane
#

That burning cursor though 🤣

#

I used to do that, back in the 90s

#

Ah it's a freaking 1TB card, that's why

#

You gonna need to go on your day and let it does it things

#

may take a loooong time

tight wren
#

it took me nearly 3 hours to format(non quick format) a 32 GB one...Gonna take a good while...

full crane
#

It's one issue with big card, yeah

lethal notch
#

Tis dun

lethal notch
full crane
#

Just use quick format

lethal notch
full crane
#

Although tbh if you skip the computer's format that should be ok, too. It's just being extra careful

lethal notch
#

Imma do that just in case

full crane
#

Haha tbh with you this takes way too long, just because your card is 1TB

lethal notch
#

Oooh

#

Soo coming from a pro should I do it?

full crane
#

Yeah just do that anyway

lethal notch
#

Aight

full crane
#

But I hope quick format wouldn't be too long

lethal notch
#

Me too

lethal notch
full crane
#

hmm

#

take a pic for me

lethal notch
full crane
#

Nah there's only one

#

it's just listed in that manner

lethal notch
#

Ah

full crane
#

Click on "This PC"

#

you will see a screen that list all the hard drives

#

which will only have 1 SDXC card

lethal notch
#

I c it yey

full crane
#

That list in the pic you have is just simply 2 different icon of the same one

lethal notch
#

Makes sense.

#

Aight imma do the formatting thingy now lol

full crane
#

Ok after that thing is done, then just put it back to the Switch, use the Switch's formatting again, and redownload games

lethal notch
#

Noice

#

Which file do you prefer for me?

#

Fat 32

#

Or extra fat

full crane
#

go with either, they are both fine

lethal notch
#

This is what it’s supposed to look like right? Just being rly careful 😭😭

full crane
#

Yep, you can press Start

lethal notch
#

Noiceeee

#

Damn that was quick

#

It’s already done??

full crane
#

Because it's empty now

lethal notch
#

Ah

#

Aight I’ve put the sd card in the switch and it reformatted

#

The games are downloading and hopefully everything is sorted

#

Zank you ver much for this help mr pikachu you are very good in tech support

#

Aight have a noice rest of the day

full crane
#

You can actually move the Starlink game back from internal memory to the SD card now.

#

Doing so in the Data Management menu

#

And you are welcome, have fun.

#

Let me know if you have other issue with it

lethal notch
#

Kool, cheers m8

weary oasis
# full crane Because it's empty now

Just FYI, the quick format isn't quick because the card is already empty; the quick format is quick because all it does is clear the file allocation table. It would be quick even if the card was full of data.

full crane
weary oasis
#

no, not really.

full crane
#

There is also no index in there
