how to mix
hi
a) change the volume gain of individual tracks to ensure you have sufficient headroom and aren’t peaking over 0db + use eq and compression where needed
b) ensure each element occupies their own set frequency range and does not overlap with another instrument or track
(theoretically you can do this with sidechain but it can mess with phase or the mix if done incorrectly, therefore try fixing it in arrangement first)
also here's a Shoegaze demo that I've been sitting on for an eternity
dunno what to do with it since it sounds too arena-rocky and the melody is pure cheese
but its also somewhat catchy haha
could edm-ify it with more supersaws and turn it into an Illenium-type tune with vocals
summoning @compact swift @warped solstice @craggy marsh @warped solstice @crimson blaze @solar spade @ember ravine
reminds me a lot more of synthpop rock like MGMT or M83 than shoegaze lmao
if you're going for shoegaze, it's not as smokey or atmospheric as it is, even if u kept the same sytnh
Definitely agree with you, it's very much in that ballpark
I made the mistake of using a certain Slowdive tune as a reference track and never recovered from it lol
I also have this synthpop tune idea - https://soundcloud.com/dj-noise-protocol/gi2m-v2-version-a/s-O5KjOpEP8RK?si=46032801177049e9add912840abcb3e4&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing
Yeah I’ve got a vocalist in my friends circle so I could probably ask her to sing on it
only issue is the creative direction
because I can’t figure out where do I want to take the project
I’ll probably scrap the 2nd instrumental chorus because one of the alternating chords is too high up
Oooh producers oh yeah
Imo needs more visible percussion to create a rhythm

I made a mixtape with some of my favorite artists.
It’s 38 minutes of music, with a visualizer created by Jonathan Zawada.
We hope you enjoy :)

Full mixtape visualizer her...
see for example this
Not sure if I like the added drums in this compared to the original
I think the track would benefit from some kind of a rhythm element beyond just plain synths and vocal chops
yeah i might try and work some into it
I shall await the result
cool stuff!!! I like the vocal editing a lot
the sidechaining stuff is cool I don't think it needs more percussion
I’ll listen to it on friday
Reminds me a bit of some aphex twin tunes
Maybe shift the vocal chops a bit more to the back of the mix as they can be a bit grating
how do i bus drums on ableton
insert drum bus effect and then adjust to your liking if you’re referring to an effect
if you want to combine multiple audio tracks of which each has drum sample of some form, just click one, hold shift and use arrows up/down to select all of the drum tracks
then right click them and choose “group tracks”
if you want to have all drums in one audio track, insert a midi track and toss drum rack from instrument tab onto it
then drag each drum sample onto it
serum is da 🐐 no 🧢
i do not speak emojis that well to understand this
🙏
Might be my IEMs but high frequencies are a bit too spicy
thanks for listening, any thoughts on this melody?
Melody sounded fine, you could prob add more variation to it at end of phrases
the second melody?
sounded fine
cool thanks
yo im a pop artist looking for help with the melody for my new song can anyone either help or knows someone who can
Can you elaborate on what kind of help you need with the melody? Do you want someone else to write you a melody, correct an existing melody, harmonize track(s) or instrument(s), tune vocals or do something else?
create a melody
How do you usually create melodies?
its my first song
Do you have a midi keyboard and/or knowledge of music theory?
have slight knowlegde of the music theory yes
then you probably want to either start drawing notes in piano roll or use your computer’s keyboard to play in some notes
when you finally have something catchy, start working around it
Alright thanks
Circle of fifths can be very helpful
Dump of WIPs from past few months with some revisions made today, all feedback is appreciated. Summoning @ember ravine @hybrid nova @rocky flower
something I rly did processing for today, and quite detailed at that haha
hi
love these instrumentals, i wish i had actual good constructive comments to say about it but i like them a lot :)
Thanks, they're all work-in-progress but chances are I'll finish them this year
lmao thats making art for ya
hope you get a chance to finish them sooner than later :)
sorry only getting to see this now, will check it out as soon as I can
There's nothing like feeling excited because you know you have a hit on your hands
give us a preview
omg tease
How's this
Piano roll type beat
hey guys! i just wanted to share my song bcuz i didn't know where to post. it's synthpop/electronic song about hidden emotional abuse, I hope you like it https://open.spotify.com/track/07FlcI1kv5dx9NzXoNk5BY?si=f494162325bd446d
imho the chorus needs a re-arrangement as it’s super busy, but it could prob work
the keys in the beginning are a bit too loud i think
actually the key stabs in general are too loud
i suppose i gotta post something on here
Sophie is that you
if you toss a distorted 808 and a snare on top of that perc loop, it would be a staple of hyperpop 😌
everyone does 😉
I have begun making the very cursed genre of tech house
okayyy
its a good starting point! would love to see this expanded into a full track with more variation
wait that sounds demeaning T~T
its /gen i prommy
updated it a bit
updated some more
woah weird and interesting outro, main loop is groovier now imo
yeah I’ll prob play around and experiment with the buildup
more or less using this as reference - https://youtu.be/lOtl4W_ZCu4

wrt main loop I’ll prob add something to pad out high frequencies since they sit kinda unused
maybe a synth or texture layer idk
update
dropped the funky modulation on buildup synth in favor of regular rhythmic buildup
there's like a 15 sec gap between end of first drop and the buildup to second drop, gotta figure out stuff to put into there haha
made it sound more "evil" using pitch bends haha
hmmm i dont know if the pitch bends work tbh
they’re the most noticeable on the wide saws that last for a bar and the last note that’s before the drums come in
the modulated effects do have pitch automation but I didn’t rly notice it making any difference either way, prob gonna relisten tmr
me when all i make is 16 bar loops
omg thank uuu
ooo love the noisy earcandy in this, very interesting
im glad you like it
i wish i knew how to expand into an actual song but its a pretty good start i think
thats cool
mixing hasnt been too much of an issue for me yet
although thats because im working with only two or three layers lmao
this is somehow only two layers lmfao
yeaaaaaa you get it
if your sound design is good you dont have to do much
arrangement and structure matters a lot imo
too often i hear something from a somewhat obscure bass music artist on twitter and the intro and buildup is good but then the drop just. loses my interest
oh?
okayyyyy
ooooo thats neat
i should experiment more with white noise
oh this reminds me of some loops i made lol
oh you should hear the acid farts one lmfao
ITS SO FUNNYYYYY
all of this is synthesized too like
ikr
omg these tracks are a serve honestly
the acid farts and spicy bubble farts make me feel like yall are entering your galen tipton era
the cute.wav sounds like it would go so hard over a DnB beat similar to PinkPanthress
The Neon Sky Beat reminds me of Streets of Rage which slays
@unborn copper @warped solstice Since you guys are sharing your stuff, here's something I've been working on. Its incomplete ofc and the piano notes represent how the vocal notes are supposed to go. Im very excited to finish it cuz this one's my favorite. Overall, I want to make an eclectic album mixing club influences with different world beats 🙂
oh wow those drums are FAT
the pianos throwing me off even know its temporary asdhjkhffklj
the instrumentals very entrancing
OKAYYYY percussion starting at around 1:20
this live reaction is sending rn
so to put this into perspective, this would be my Hyperballad
i think the horns could work if theres more heft to it
ie more bass frequencies
mmmm supersaws could work if done right
mmm i get you
naur same
same [2]
okayyyy

ooo that bridge
the drums fading out......
OKAYYYYY
i like the structure of the track as a whole
i think it could use some more novel melodies and chords though
they really said "oh you thought it was over" drop beats like bag of bricks
if the chord progression switched up a bunch i think the track can be much more exciting
they use they/them pronouns
the extended silence just before the transition into the final chorus ate tho
oh absolutely
i often remind my self about much the vocals fill in the space, we often underestimate that until you hear how empty song instrumentals are
yea its kinda scary sometimes
i always find it impressive cuz theres this feeling i get thats like oh, this feels like something within my reach
oh absolutely
granted, im still taking vocal lessons but im always struggling to hit higher notes and not sound so breathy or buzzy
i havent had a single vocal lesson ever
it makes me kinda sad that my vocals are slowly getting worse and worse as i get older
omg same
yeah my voice gets shakey at first then i just get frustrated lol
i make funny sounds and rhythms that can work as instrumentals all the time but when i actually try to make them in ableton i just forget everything rip
doesnt help that i dont record them bc i dont have storage space on my phone ._.
not if you use weird sound design!
omg same! Usually when i alone, i just beatbox to myself which is how most of my song ideas are formed. as for melodies, they always start with the piano
YEAAAAA I DO RANDOM BEATBOXING TOO LIKE
although its not actually beatboxing its more making SOPHIE sounds with my voice lmfao
yeah disco is tougher bcuz theres either much more staccato or more glissando
oh wait
this song is taking me somewhere...
omg i love your voice
god i need to listen to more disco and house so i can understand how it all works
like what makes it tick yknow
i think ill find my voice in instrumentals that have jarring rhythms and flows, with sounds that take you in all sorts of directions
LMFAOOOOO
so far it goes hard, i think a little more gliding bass can elevate this and give it a more ominous tone
like silence to me is so underutilized sometimes, like random sudden starts and stops to otherwise consistent and powerful rhythms and beats are so cool
unisil my beloved
So you know how basses usually have a staccato to it? well i feel that a bass that holds a note would really help bring this song out. Im having a hard time describing this 😭
yes thats it
getting some slight the The Cure vibes
I like the percussion and the way it builds up towards the end with the 4otf beat
I need to figure out what to do with this track tbh
also can't decide whether to drive this towards synthpop or do the funny taiko drums
the mixdown on this track is a nightmare
worked on it with a friend of mine, either I need to rly sit down in a studio sesh to fix it or prob recycle the ideas n samples into something new
i kinda see it but this also makes me think that positions was just Its Always Sunny theme music remixes
pretty accurate
its going for a 34+35 inspired sound is what i felt
not most of the songs though
but the album does have occasional baroque-ish instrumentation
true...
The only complaint I have abt ableton is the piano roll
drawing melodies in there is not as intuitive as it should be
I can imagine
melodyne is as good as it gets ngl
The section starting at 1:00 has a bit too spicy of a high end
see if you can tweak it
Thanks. But what about compositionally?
wdym by that? Structure? Arrangement? Mixing?
I’m fine with all of that. More like melody, memorableness, emotion etc
Could use a bit more variety or something extra on melodic front
the vocal chop is super dry it feels
This one could use a mixing session or two
the concept is quite neat in terms of how you play around with patterns, but the 808 hit needs more space in mix (so consider more aggressive sidechain)
probably should also say the bass drum isn't really supposed be heard at all
then cut it from mix and replace it with a regular sub bass tbh
sidechain instrumentation to the clap
grrrrr why can i sing a melody but then it sucks ass on the daw grrrrr
record and convert using melodyne
i think i had melodyne once but i deleted it bc no space .....
upgrade space
alternatively just try in-software bouncing of a sung melody to midi
https://www.tiktok.com/@aliceeespage/video/7158765338572754181?_t=8bOpgSzq5DR&_r=1 Finished this one. Also, really really trying to get things going, so anyone into this stuff feel free to follow, like, share etc it all helps massively. Trying to do a big push to get stuff out this year. Thanks
Any chance you could provide a soundcloud (or other) link? I’m a boomer
cheers, thanks, will give it a listen
imho it overall sounds fine, maybe some different alterations or at least more noticeable shifts in the structure would be nice
you could also modulate parameters to add some kind of a sense of progression over time
And what about conveyance of emotion
I'd advise either working in keys or synths that actively play topline melodies and countermelodies or alternatively letting certain elements "breathe" in the mix
so space elements out in the track to create a progression and contrast
I mainly just work with topline melodies in the vocals
are the melodies in the examples not coming across?
they're there but I often find it difficult to focus on a vocal chop unless it is heavily accented in the mix

like here, the vocal chops that tail the main vocal line are distorted, reverbed/delayed and have an immense presence in the mix
you can also play around with the rule of 3
Not sure, if I put the vocals anymore up front they'll be too in your face. plus, every line has it's own melody that I want to be able to hear as well
then maybe harmonize different elements and integrate them in a way that allows each of them to "play off" of each other
you could also just make chords more noticeable
what is the most noticeable element to you then?
vocal chops everywhere but around 0:56 in your track they disappear
to me these sound even more lost in the chorus
yeah I removed them from there
so if you want to invoke emotion, space out the different elements and structure song in a way that has dynamics
so have a quiet/moderately loud intro
integrate a pre-chorus
have a chorus section with main melody and countermelodies
then have a bridge
then another pre-chorus/verse or variation
take out/add/remove elements
then bring in the chorus section again but with a new melody or some change
obviously you can keep certain elements consistent, but taking them out and creating negative space or new "things" gives it a sense of advancement
to make your life easier, try to find reference tracks that you can use for structure, arrangement and mixing
that way you can compare loudness of different elements, spacing and placement of different sections, etc.
so are the dynamics in this any better? I generally just want a quite to loud until the middle then die down at the end and combine all elements together
yeah
i'd maybe like the quiet moments to be longer or introduce some percussion but that aside it handles the dynamics and structuring better than the first track
at the minute I don't want any percussion, I'd rather those ducks in the sound instead of percussion.
like drops in volume instead of a bass drum etc
that's a perfectly valid creative decision
but keep in mind that drums can aid in creating a rhythm or a groove (unless you use synths with sharp transients)
The songs I'm looking at (can't send a screenshot for some reason on this) all have similar volumes throughout though
looking at Britney spears crazy and it's basically the same volume throughout
just did this
awh :(
hows your falsetto
aw that sucks
idk what my voice range is tbh
how do i know
how do i know the difference between my normal voice and falsetto
do you limit yourself to throat voice or chest voice
ah makes sense
thats funny bc i can transition from chest to head voice somewhat smoothly for some reason?
...........
yes
!?!?!?!?
last time i checked my voice is somewhat androgynous
so its throat voice?
idk
i just made it up lol
woah
rip
thats the campy role
oh thats cool!
ah
so uhhh does the gay accent make it hard for me to know what my range is or
oh nice detuned arpeg
lmfao
is it just me or do the voice range finder websites i see on google kinda suck
yea that demo is. not the best
i like this one much more
sounds nice
thoughts on this?
prob missing vocals is my initial thought tbh
alternative version where I swapped out a guitar amp emulator for a distortion plugin
I tried lots of different patches and changes, unless I want to go full cheese and just use a saw wave, this was the only kinda viable option
regular piano and e-piano keys got drowned out by guitar riffs
wdym by sculpting the mids?
yeah I can mess around with eq and see what'll come of it
wrt re-write the main problem is that all of the guitar riffs and instrumentation layers are bounced so best i can prob do is add chords somewhere and rewrite melody in parts to add variation
yeah might work on the high end
something like a brass instrument with held notes or a distorted guitar might work better for the lead
I'll try a guitar
hi made this retro pop / gaga / type beat any thoughts? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxB6TbKDUoo
tried this with a bit more variation and degradation in audio quality. also took it off the grid so hopefully sounds a bit more natural
it does feel like the song has a better structure
playing around with shaperbox
Overall though is melody enough? I was half thinking of throwing it out
its fine
Yeah I might just throw it out
hi guys what's the best plugin for electric guitars?
probably something like a good kontakt library or realguitar plugins paired up with processing
probably needs more polishing but here's something
@compact swift
sorry i do not 😔
this is a wip if yall have suggestions im open
Default Logic Pro
Pitch correction
With a shit ton of other effects
Yo I’m cheap 😭
Okay I’ll keep in mind
I gotta play with volumes too and automate stuff
this is giving cher or charli xcx
i love it
but like lo-fi
oh im definetly getting logic pro
if it can do this
I can’t sing well but for me time
And like
Sustaining i guess
You wanna feel your diaphragm I think
Kinda contracting but not much
But maybe I’m saying bs that’s just what I do
Ty!
Have you considered dialing back the pitch correction?
womp womp
labels nowadays suck, most of them will do one of the following:
a) just lend you 100k $ allowance that you’ll have to repay with interest
b) mildly promote your work but not pay anything substantial
c) charge you upfront for releases (beware - this is a scan)
generally your simplest bet is to set up a bandcamp or RouteNote and put your music there tbh
wrt label signing you’d want to first see if you can find a small label that matches your sound, aesthetic n style n then talk to their A&R (typically they have demo submission pages)
I just want someone to promote me basically. I was briefly signed to R&S for a release and they handled a lot of the promo. I'd be worried to go it myself. Do you think there is chance for suceess this way?
idk it depends on how big is your reach n how much work you gonna put into it
if R&S were sufficiently able to meet your expectations then might as well go back to them
basically it's all I'm going to work at.
then see if you need promo of a label or nah
I just feel that people are more willing to give you a chance. But I'm tempted to just go it alone. I have a lot of material i'm happy with but just feel absolutely lost
make a demo reel of 3-4 best tracks of yours
make sure mixdowns are clean
n it sounds nice n is at least 2:30 in length
then start shopping around labels that’ll take up demos in your genre
in parallel start dropping other releases via bandcamp, independently, to build a listener base
why that length? why not not shorter?
Ok I'll give it a go and update you if you want 🙂
also can I release stuff on Bandcamp that I would rather be saving for a label?
2:30 to be honest is like the bare minimum for a modern pop hit
two choruses and two verses
depends on whether you want the music to be heard by public before the label release
labels usually don’t mind re-releases especially if initial release wasn’t that noticeable
ah cool thanks for the help
can you ever send too many demos? like would the label get annoyed?
Yes.
Familiarize yourself with their submission rules. If they say just 1 song, then obviously submit just 1.
yeah but what if you keep writing new stuff all the time? can you keep sending 1
@stoic terrace like that's bound to be ok. or if they don't have a limit
Just send 1 if it’s in the rules
also don’t be too impatient when it comes to responses because most labels w/ open submissions get swamped with demos
ok so maybe one new one a month if you keep writing?
as I said, just send the amount specified in their submission rules
if you write new music, don't submit it to the same label unless you got a response (be it positive or negative) or unless a reasonable time period (we're talking 3-4 months at least) have passed
Not sure how to space out my subtweet album but I'm expanding it from 11 to 13 songs for the sources who complained
I want high highs but like maybe 3 songs to bring down the energy which are brooding but not languid
your choice rly
i think if you release or intend for it to be heard as a continuous mix it can def help to have songs which bring down energy
at the same time three whole songs is a lot of work
I know I have one I just need a dozen more. My ideas are fragmented but doable
very interesting visuals, for a sec I genuinely thought ||my youtube was buffering||
HAHA, that's great, I was hoping it came across as real
yeah, it worked haha
and I think the final version of the song is solid, the different sounds and synths work nicely and the rhythm has a kind of a swing to it
ah cool thanks very much. just going to try and shop it around or possible just release it myself
Hey y'all, here's the question for the day: after the Skrillex x Fred again.. x Four Tet set at Coachella, what are some dream producer collabs you would love to see?
As I said, any of these tbh -
btw if anyone here needs like help with visual/cover art feel free to hit me up :))
im good with design to some extent so im happy to help out
unless its 3D stuff which im not really familiar with
like with blender
this is so chill wow
its giving a hint of Sade
i tried producing my own song without knowledge of music theory and (as a musician) it sounded uhm interesting
is there any chord progressions/ tips tricks to help a song sound cohesive while not being boring
just go on youtube and look up music theory
I also sometimes go on piano-keyboard-guide.com as it has some materials on chords/scales
You could experiment with chord progressions from songs across different genres. I wouldn't recommend sticking too close to music theory just for the sake of it. I always feel like if you do that it will come out sounding like Jacob Collier, who is interesting to hear talk about theory but musically I can't stand his stuff. If you want a quick guide to chords in a specific key to experiment with here's the key chords of C major.
I ii iii IV V7 vi vii (half diminished)
Cmajor Dminor E minor F major Gmajor (or G7) A minor Bhalfdiminished
If you want to do something that sounds coherent but moves in and out of different keys trying going through the circle of fifths (Listen to hey joe by Jimi Hendrix for example of this type of chord progression)
Did some work on a disco tune and a techno tune yesterday
I have been studying music theory since I was a child. And I stand by what I said. I disagree, you don’t need to know music theory to write. Look at the Beatles for example. Your ear is far better to follow.
I told him that if he WANTS TO he can start at this very basic part.
Jacob collier is perfect example of someone who talks at length about what scales etc he used to begin writing his music but nonetheless turns out crap, in my opinion.
I’m also not against music theory, I love music theory but it’s terrible advice to suggest that it is the most important thing when writing music. Like it or not music theory is not a necessary thing to know to write good music. You could argue that people have an instinctual understanding of it after being exposed to western music since birth and are naturally drawn to the sound of it, so they follow it regardless, but your ear is infinitely more useful than theory.
+1
I didn’t do that. I recommended him not to get too bogged down in theory but then offered information if he wanted to do it anyway.
I’d.say the vast majority of people who make great music, particularly in terms of popular music, in the modern day, take next to no consideration for theory while they write songs.
This isn’t coming from an ignorant perspective. I have been exposed to and have studied theory for the majority of my life. The idea that you actively need to know and continue learning theory in order to write is completely false. What is it going to do for you?
colliers a genius
I think he has very impressive skills and immense talent incredibly poorly utilised.
I have been studying theory almost my entire life. And it’s 100 percent true that most of the pop writes have no consideration of formal music theory when writing. It’s almost always trial and error through copying until they find they’re own voice, the same as talking. Music theory isn’t useless but it is no one where near essential. You keep saying this isn’t music theory, if you’re so unbelievably clued into music, explain to me what is music theory.
People constantly expand their vocabulary through trial, error and experimentation.
Do you honest think someone like Taylor swift is consciously breaking down the theory of her songs after the fact?
I didn’t encourage him not to, I said it’s not necessary to write music, which it isn’t. It’s only an idiot who would suggest so
Your ear is way more useful to develop. Music theory is incredibly interesting for analysing stuff. And it’s also useful if you want to get off to strangers on a discord channel to smugly assert your deep knowledge of it without actually saying anything
Again, If you are so knowledgeable please tell me what is music theory. And where is the most useful place to start off for song writing
Yes eliot, learn the basics like the makeup of chords, but don’t feel like you need to stick to them, follow your ear. It’s basically what 90 percent of writers do anyway.
Yes, you can follow your ear, but I've been told been some professors that I'd need to stick to some tonal structure (I thought I did).
I didn't know they soundly became producers, though they made some good points like adding more complex harmonies + counterpoints
which is easier said then done.
What style of music are you writing?
Sorry thought I sent this earlier. I’m not saying don’t learn theory. I’ve never regretted learning it and find it incredibly interesting and I do use it in partnership with my ear (but mainly prefer my ear). All I’m saying is when do you learn it, don’t feel let it dictate your decisions and feel free to turn off that part if you want to at certain times. I think it’s best to put into concrete terms the idea I’m thinking of so that it’s instantly accessible, instead of making something that feels more like a technical exercise, which is a genuine pitiful a lot of people fall into at times. Is it useful, yes. Is it 100 percent necessary, no.
No its ok, its pop, though now leaning towards acoustic. (off topic) My first piece was accidentally trance.
It was just bunch of random, this was before I became interested in producing
wip
can i post?
thats some nice tunes man i loved it
Yes, sure
Made this yesterday :/ not sure if it can be considered pop or not
I dont spend a long time on tracks I usually get um done quick and thats my goal to produce quickly so its probably not up to expectations
wait not yesterday day before i think
Is rock a genre that allows for more rough/aggressive vocals?
I think I might record something in that style
Or actually nu metal
I think I like that style
Started working a drum n bass (neurofunk, to be exact) WIP in order to play around with sound design and distortion plugins
i love this
its giving aespa
or LOONA
but leaning more towards aespa since there is a bit of a switch up halfway
like the song sounds different after that
but then at the very end u go back to the first part
Happy to hear that. I’m still ironing out the arrangement and other aspects but it’s certainly got potential methinks
This is just gorgeous. It feels like something Thom Yorke would make
I like it, especially the middle part
started working on techno while using the new monitors
on my headphones and monitors the low end seems to sound fine but I'd appreciate it if someone else could also do a check around 00:30 and 00:45 for the low end
thanks 🙂
hi new here,
i put this one out recently, what do u think?
its like, y2k dancehouse meets indiepop
kick transient a bit too spicy
but its def vibey
anyone know how to switch back to classic stats view on soundcloud
i whipped this up this morning. im producer / ass singer haha https://soundcloud.com/addimusiclegit/better-life?si=355288dd412b4ef28a6f9aceb36f8de7&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing
check out some tutorials on how to process vocals and align them with the beat better
while I think the core ideas are interesting, you could refine the arrangement, mixing and other aspects
thank you i was just going to try this out. I will also see if I can make it more interesting. So by align with beat beter do you mean kinda sing to the beat instead of the tempo?
The beat is at the tempo that you have put in the daw
but try to have your voice keep up with the beat better
ok got it will do. I whipped up another one and I vocalized the words to the rhythm a bit more. This one is in f# minor or so I think... I also cleaned up the vocal quite a bit by singing at the same volume or something i did something right because when I put the volume gate to cut noise it worked almost the entire time! Then I used my plugin to clean it up even more and after compression it didnt have any noticeable hiss. I was carful not to move or make any sounds like I usually do. I really appreciate the feed back bro it helped me out a lot ❤️
its a new one i want ed to start a new one with more precice samples custom made
Only just found this message just randomly scrolling through this channel for the first time but that’s like 90% of what I make if you wanna know anything
@stoic terrace do you know of any good, cost effective modern percussion packs?
whats your budget?
I mean, ideally 50 and below tbh
and you want percussion that is “organic”, that is punchy (so more for dance/edm) or that is experimental?
punchy and organic stuff mainly. Like for dance and electropop
Sounds of KSHMR vol.2 is good for percussion, I use it all the time
I'm fine with my own drums that I've made for moodier and atmospheric stuff but I havent made dance stuff that I'm happy with
alternatively check out addictive drums library for kontakt (base software is free) though it might also be stand-alone
Thanks! Ill check it out
sad I had to cut this
Is this a threat
I don’t really make much pop music I’m more of an edm type guy
I do have like one pop song I made during a 1-on-1 writing camp/session but I dunno if I’m allowed to share it
nah haha just curious
and this isn't a pop-only channel, a lot of ppl including me make edm
so feel free to drop links to anything and everything
I used to make EDM but got sick of making it
Could only do it for so long until I got bored and needed to make something different
Which ended up being Nu Metal and Hip Hop
Wait how do i send sm here
Be an active participant of the server for long enough to at least get Pop Silver
upload to soundcloud if you dont have pop silver
Hey bros (esspecially Matt_k haha) Just looking for feedback on this track just a little would go a long way I suppose. https://soundcloud.com/iceyoumusic/road-split-latest-attempt?si=57de152cd5374812a5cf1859ad1168ef&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing
i feel like the atmosphere is too overposwering if you could render out atmospher stem and dynamically eq it to the rest of the track that would work imo
for time being i would lower the volume / add some reverb be it convulsion or plate... doesnt matter just wanna smoth out those note ihits
are you recording vocals into multiple layered takes with metronome?
It seems you could probably add in some vocal harmonies and also adjust the vocals to be more in time with the beat
Have the metronome in your daw play along in your headphones while you are singing
you can then cut up the vocal clips and shift them backwards and forwards to better match the timing
i used a vocal I bought this time and think i got kinda lucky with the mixing as it sounds pretty good better than my other stuff. I have 2 versions on with loud hat and one without. The hat plays from start to finish so its taxing on ears for sure. i just went with the quiet hat since i cant upload the mp3s. heres the link. and yeah my ears are ringing 😦 didnt notice till now that hate was way to loud. https://soundcloud.com/iceyoumusic/feelin-no-good-iceyoumusic?si=a840d1124f3749669e5d8ad314c3ad5a&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing
The mids need beefing up
only the highs and lows are noticeable in the mix
bump
Bump
I found a section of archive.org which features field recordings and stock video footage. You may find this useful haha
https://soundcloud.com/iceyoumusic/no-goodbyes Hey Matt I was hoping you could check this out when you get time its my best one so far. Im not leaving the vocals im getting my sister to sing them. hehe its going to take some luck
its really raw and its just a demo Thanks again for helping me in the past
new techno wip
A few suggestions:
- Add or write a proper bassline to it, whether using sub bass or something else.
- Add delay, reverb and chorus on some of the synths and plucks so that they aren't as dry.
- Beef up the drums a bit maybe
i like the high energy. I was thinking you could add some trippyness if you are using layers for your synth and bass. I recently discovered a lil trick for layering if you can sync the high and low spectrum into an automation you can moph the sound from either or and anything in between. If using 3 layers just leave the low end how it is and automate the mid and high intersection for some rad fx. Just incorporate a connection between the synth and the automation so when the synth hits you are automating it some how. It sounds very interesting and allows for many options when mixing.
For example if you are mixing this song and you wanted to lower the enrgey or change it up tweak it so only the low spectrums were playing with heavy side chaining. There is no one way to do it but its really easy in fl.
can you send me an example or an ableton tutorial which shows the thing?
im sorry i dont know ablton. :/ and ive never seen it shown online i have this pic though i send on the fl discord. https://youtu.be/G5EiP0QOstc i uploaded to youtube on private
its not techno though but this is the concept
in fl i used an automation then dbl clicked it to add a second so they sync up. no idea how to do it in ableton
I'll see what I can figure out
hey i fixed the super stereo autopanning bass XD No reverb or delay yet but drums should be beefy... Hey did you try out that Idea I came up with lol I came up with it after trying to figure out tiestos surrounded by light https://soundcloud.com/iceyoumusic/no-goodbyes-stemmed-out
if it’s a song, can you upload it to SC by any chance?
it is a music clip but the video is an integral part
updated my techno WIP
and another update
does anyone know any good youtube videos where its like a FULL tutorial on FL studio
i really wanna do something thats like a class or a tutorial on just how to use the entire program
like one thatll show u how to use every single thing and just do stuff
im figuring it out as i go, but it would be nice to have a way to speed learn everything
In this livestream I will put 3 hours on the clock and attempt to create a beat and record a original song from scratch in fl studio. Come join us live and see Curtiss King's unorthodox approach to creating music diving into FLOW. FLOWCATION is a vacation to the FLOWSTATE.
#flowcation is a Live FL Studio Cookup YouTube series by Producer Curtis...
speed learning a daw isn't rly possible tbh, even w/ good knowledge you'll be rewatching parts of vids since ppl do things v fast lol
i know ill get better over time with pratice
update with a master chain
I think I'll reduce the compression for some parts n rework some of the missing elements
but it is about 80% finished
https://soundcloud.com/iceyoumusic/masks
It could use a mix down im sure but i just went strait to master cause im lazy and im excited cause it sounded good to me
Only thing I was wanting was like some kinda chanting indian tribal vocal but thats just me man...
like goofy ones to get people feeling giggly
sry for ping
shouldnt ping at 4 am
I don't like doing chants for driving techno, it's a wee bit too corny for my liking
it's almost 1PM in Europe
ah yeah that was the vibe i was imagining lol corny i guess. probably a bad idea im not good at edm never have been lol
cause it was so rythmic
i was like bro... this could be like
co cool people could laugh to it
I did a lobotomy session the other day. The second half is conventional and the first half of more lobotomy. Not sure if anyone has suggestions.
I think I'll put together an electronic shoegaze project
Sharing this little snippet. Should I continue on this and develop it? Keen to finish some of my "small music" for once. It´s only my voice and a playback tune to get into the grooove. Appriciate all the feedback I can get! https://drive.google.com/file/d/1paT1XsCkMVBvETQjcsSQd0Pn7DTGwqcl/view?usp=sharing
Can you please upload it to soundcloud or youtube?
I don´t want it on Soundcloud or Youtube tbh. Haha. It´s just a very small draft if you get me.
OK. Here you go: https://soundcloud.com/synne-aao/maya-26062024-1856
What do you think?
I’ll take a look as soon as I have the time
np
hie if you like ayesha erotica, slayyyter, chase icon and that kid you should listen this xx https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mdGqYoHvzI
is that your actual voice?
and I'd maybe dial back the reverb
Yes, it is. Yeah, it´s just avery spontanious and short take - layered with some eccho.. But I think I want to make a song out of it.
You have a lovely voice, cant wait to hear the finished product!
check if the keys and elements coming in at around 01:00 are in key with the vocals
I'm impressed! Looking forward to hearing more of your vocal takes ngl
https://soundcloud.com/iceyoumusic/bye-bye-baby hey Matt hows the music producin goin? I think ive gotten better since i last posted here.
its supposed to be pop but i doubt it is
bringing this back from the dead
it's chill, this is the space to do it

clip from upcoming track
I have a music theory question: Jingle Bell Rock is playing and during the middle, there's a harmonisation of the main line in an old tiney style. The way they harmonise feels very distinct to that eram Could anyone explain why?
Hey guys I have a quick question: so I’m thinking of starting a fiverr account for beat making and was wondering what are your thoughts on the site? Any advice or tips on starting out?
Very oversatured, everyone makes beats. If you want to succeed in it, already get good at making somewhat decent mixes and don't just sell your first beat
Use Ableton and not FL for obvious reasons
Also learn how to do proper arrangements and probably also offer more than just beatmaking services, probably learn how to mix vocals
Ahh so basically the synths, keys, bass, the whole nine yards
Yes
also learn how to proper mixdowns, i.e. what sits where in frequency spectrum, remove resonances, learn sidechaining and levelling, eqing, compression, limiting
I would not sell beats if I couldn’t explain to someone what attack, release and ratio parameters do on a compressor lol
Now when you say selling beats, are you referring to making sample packs? I’m hoping on just focusing on making certain beats for someone who needs them.
No, actually selling instrumentals
anyone can make sample packs lol

oooo I’m so nervous lol
Hey all, are we allowed to post links to our content for feedback?
I noticed I couldn't post clips directly here
I think yes, but the embeds only work once you get to pop silver rank
I see. Thank you. Out of curiosity, what's the requirement for reaching silver?
level 20 on the server, so being reasonably active for a while
and participating in other channels
you can check your level in #bots by typing in ‘/rank’
I'm only level 1 lol
Gonna be a while
damn i'm only at 18
i wanted to post something for feedback lol
guess i'm just gonna have to participate a little more first
You guys
Listen to Fire by Augustana
