CJ Stroud against the Steelers: 16/30 for 306 yards, 2 TDs, and 0 INTS (self.nfl)

Playing with a 3rd string O line against TJ Watt and Alex Highsmith? No problem for the rookie

Also continues his record breaking int-less streak and didn't take a sack as well

Probably should have gotten a rushing TD as well early in the game but just short. His mobility was labeled as a weakness

#

C.J. Stroud through 4 games: 1212 yards, 6 TDs, 0 INTs, 100.6 passer rating

#

Stroud has been not just "good for a rookie" so far, but very good in general

#

Baker Mayfield final statline vs the Saints. 25/32 242 yards 3TDs 1 INT.

#

Another extremely efficient performance from Mayfield. If you watch any Bucs games it's clear this is the kind of offense he excels in. He's making great throws under pressure, and just overall playing in a way that keeps this team in the game at all times. It's just great to see this dude perform at a high level.

#

Of the 6 teams to have never won a world series who do you think is most likely to win it first

#

The teams are: Seattle Mariners (who have never made an appearance) The Rockies The Brewers The Padres The Rangers The Rays

#

Trea Turner isn't the only Philly to break a record this year. Rodolfo Castro has set the single-season record for most plate appearances to reach an 0-2 count without recording a single hit. (since 1988, when this data started being tracked)

#

My buddy from Detroit was working and was on break at 9 pm and he took this pic which was A Tribute to miggy!

#

Why does J.D. Martinez have relatively little bWAR for 2023, despite being an All-Star? Is it just because he's a DH?

#

His OPS is .893, and he hit 33 home runs in 2023. Why is his WAR so low?

As perfect as you can play against a very good Dolphins team. Josh may be leading the MVP race.

With Miguel Cabrera retiring, there are no more active players from MVP Baseball 2004.

Barry Bonds with 45 in 2004 is the last Giant to do it. Tigers used to have the second longest streak dating back to 2016 until Torkelson broke it.

The Padres improve to 2-12 in extra inning games and 9-23 in one run games.

Rich Hill recorded his first career save opportunity followed by his first career blown save in the 10th inning, but he got the win in the 11th inning.

Assuming The Dbacks Do Not Come Back Down 7 Runs, Kyle Tucker Will Have Reached & Lost 30/30 In The Same Game

#

Tucker hit a Little League HR in the fifth inning that the scorers initially ruled Triple, E9. It was eventually changed to Triple, Advancement On The Throw. It was then changed to an Inside-The-Park HR, giving him his 30th HR. It was later changed again to Triple, Advancement On The Throw, stripping his 30th HR away from him. Thus he reached and lost 30/30 in the same game.

#

The Dodgers beat the Giants 5-2 to finish with 100 wins for their 4th consecutive 100 win full season and 5th consecutive season with 100 win pace.

#

Cam Gallagher has quietly had a historic season in Cleveland

#

In a season full of frustration for Cleveland baseball fans, most of which centered around one of the most anemic offenses in baseball which has been at or near the bottom of the league in a number of categories all season long, nothing sums up the frustration more than the amazing ability Cam Gallagher has shown to hang on to a roster spot and receive consistent playing time all season long.

As Cam's season has most likely come to an end following a start in yesterday's game, he has now posted the worst OPS and wRC+ in baseball history for a non-pitcher with at least 140 PAs. A balmy .322 OPS and -17 wRC+.

He joins this illustrious list of noted sluggers to somehow reach 140+ PAs with a negative wRC+ in baseball history:

Cam Gallagher (2023) - 149 PA, .126/.154/.168, -17 wRC+,

Frank O'Rourke (1912) - 216 PA, .122/.177/.148, -11 wRC+

Pat Rockett (1978) - 157 PA, .141/.212/.155, -11 wRC+

Tony Pena Jr (2008) - 235 PA, .169/.189/.209, -8 wRC+

Rafael Belliard (1996) - 148 PA, .169/.179/.218, -7 wRC+

Andy Anderson (1949) - 152 PA, .125/.207/.169, -6 wRC+

Bob Didier (1970) - 183 PA, .149/.210/.173, -3 wRC+

If we were to include pitchers into the list the only player in the history of baseball to post a worse stat line than Cam Gallagher in 2023 over the course of a sample large enough to clear 140 PAs would be Dave Davenport of the 1915 St Louis Terriers, who in 147 plate appearances put up a .092/.157/.092 slash line and a -22 wRC+.

Puka Nacua is already 1/3rd of the way to the rookie receiving yards record (as well as some other fun stats)

#

Makea "Puka" Nacua - aka Puka Doncic - aka Cooper's Samoan Clone - is on an absolute heater of a start to his career. At 501 yards and 39 receptions through four weeks, Nacua is:

  • 34% of the way to breaking the rookie receiving yards record (of 1473 held by Bill Groman)

  • 37% of the way to breaking the rookie receptions record (of 104 held by Jaylen Waddle)

  • outpacing Calvin Johnson's record-setting 2012 season by 78 yards and 10 receptions (with many caveats, one being a 156yd avg from weeks 8-15 for Megatron.. and not being a rookie lol)

  • hes also barely pacing above Michael Thomas' receptions record of 149 as well as being one single yard above the pace to be the first 2,000 yard receiver

  • as well as set multiple rookie records already for X-week based stats, such as receptions and yards through the first four games (Puka has already beaten two week-5 records before playing a snap!)

This thread wasnt meant to say that he will break any (or all hehe) of these records but that his pace thus far, for a rookie, is out of this world; will Kupp's return put a huge damper on things or will Stafford get both their dues?

Both Lamar Jackson and Mark Andrews scored 2 TDs against the #1 Defense. Meaning both individually scored more TDs against Cleveland than the Steelers, Bengals, and Titans combined.

On a similar note, Baltimore has only allowed 4 TDs this season, with Cleveland being the only team to not put up a TD against them.

If Zach Wilson's performance last night was a genuine step forward that he is able to maintain and not just an aberration, what do the Jets do next year at QB? (self.nfl)

Submitted 1 day ago by geauxpackgo

I know this is extremely premature and we'll need to see this level of play consistently for several weeks in a row for this to even be a real question. But just as a thought experiment: if something really did click last night and this was a turning point for Zach, what should the Jets do when Aaron Rodgers gets healthy? Do you play the 40 year old HOFer or move on with the up and coming 24 year old on the last year of his rookie contract?

On the one hand it's hard to believe Aaron won't be the better option for a single year if they want to go all in. On the other hand do you risk mortgaging the next 10 years of (potentially) good qb play for a 1-year run with a 40 year old coming off an achilles tear? Would Zach be content to be patient for a year and go back to supporting his idol from the bench? As a lifelong Packers fan and A-Rod supporter and also one of the few people who has supported Zach and never fully given up on him, I'm pretty torn.

The New York Giants in the First Half through 4 games: 4 TOs, 2 Missed FGs (one returned for TD), 413 total yards, 26 First Downs, outscored 77 to 9.

Daniel Jones is on pace to be the most sacked Quarterback in one season in NFL history

#

The quarterback who currently holds the record for being sacked the most times in a single NFL season is David Carr, who was sacked 76 times in the 2002 season.

Daniel Jones is on pace to be sacked 84 times this season.

EDIT: HOWEVER, Sam Howell is ALSO on pace to break the sack record. Tune into the NFC East for the rest of the season to see who gets to hold this prestigious record.

The '76 Bucs were -287 pts / -20.5 ppg over 14 games
At this rate, with 17 games, assuming they don't make the playoffs (lol), they will end at -323 pts.
We may not get the per game record, but the volume record is attainable, even if we slide to -17 ppg with the benefit of extra games.

Looking forward to the Dolphins and Bills.

#

The Seahawks recent performance of getting 11 sacks against the Giants was 3 short of tying the record of 14, which was accomplished in 1952 when the Eagles achieved 14 sacks against... the Giants.

#

With their d-line not being the hallmark of the team like say, the eagles, 49ers, or cowboys the seahawks got close to making history

Which prompts the question, with how nonexistent the giants oline is right now, do you think a team in their upcoming schedule could get to 14 sacks? or break it? Or do you think the giants pull it together down the line and Danny's bones won't be scrunched forever?

#

Through 4 games, Daniel Jones has been sacked 23 times and hit 37 total times. The Giants are on pace to give up nearly 100 sacks this season, which would be 2nd-worst in NFL history. (self.nfl)

#

Jones was sacked 7 times against Dallas, 3 times in Arizona, 2 times against the 49ers, and 11 times tonight.

The 1986 Eagles hold the record for most sacks allowed in a season, with 104. The 1997 Arizona Cardinals are currently the 2nd-worst, with just 78 sacks allowed.

#

Giants have scored 3 points in their first two home games of the season.

#

This is the lowest in the last 40 years.

#

Daniel Jones so far this season 765 yards, 2 touchdowns and 6 interceptions and 23 sacks

The 2023 Astros had the second biggest drop in wins from one season to the next by a repeat division winner... ever

#

The Houston Astros won 16 less games this season than they did last season, dropping from 106-56 to 90-72. Nonetheless, by the skin of their teeth they still managed to repeat as champions of the AL West.

This is tied for the second biggest drop in wins by a repeat division winner in MLB history (excluding shortened seasons).

The 1999 New York Yankees went 98-64, repeating as AL East Champs while losing 16 more games than the 1998 Yankees, who went 114-48.

The 2006 St. Louis Cardinals went 83-78, repeating as NL Central Champs while losing 17 more games than the 2005 Cardinals, who went 100-62.

Good news for the Astros: both of those teams went on to win the World Series.

The Netherlands have participated in 34 European Baseball Championship tournaments, dating back to 1956. This was their first time missing out on the gold medal game.

#

Spain defeated the Netherlands 7-6 in the semis (after trailing 3-6 in the 8th and 5-6 in the 9th); the Dutch went on to win bronze after four consecutive golds and 33 straight final appearances (gold or silver).

In the 33 other times they participated in the tourney, they were 24-9 in the finals, with all nine losses to Italy. This was quite the historic event in European baseball, with Spain taking home their second ever gold, the other being in 1955 – before the Dutch debuted in the competition.

With the retirement of Miguel Cabrera, MLB will enter the 2024 season without an active member of the 500 home run club for the first time since the beginning of the 1999 season

2023 MLB Team Run Distributions - Regular Season

#

MLB.com’s 2023 postseason lineups ranked

#

The Minnesota Twins had the third most home runs in the MLB season with 223. Not a single hitter had 30 Homerun

#

The team leader in homeruns? Max Kepler with just 24 homeruns.

He also led the team in RBIs with 66

Only two other players on the team had 20, those being Joey Gallo, who got hurt, and Michael A Taylor.

Royce Lewis, had he been healthy, was on pace for about 40 Homeruns and 150 RBIs

#

Congrats to the Oakland A’s 2023 wins leader checks notes Shintaro Fujinami

After posting two solid seasons back to back and improving defensively, is it fair to say Contreras is becoming one of the more underrated players in the league right now?

ARI @ MIL: $27 (7:08 PM EST)

TEX @ TB: $31 (3:08 PM EST)

I know start time is definitely hurting the ticket sales of the two AL games, but the sheer different between the games in Milwaukee and Philadelphia is definitely interesting. Anybody have any other ideas of what could be impacting this?

#

Javier Baez had the lowest strikeout percentage of his career this season. He swung at less pitches outside the zone than he did last year. He also had the worst season of his career

#

Just kind of an interesting thing to look at. He made more contact with the pitches outside of the zone that he did swing at. He was probably a little bit unlucky on the whole, not enough that he would have even been an average hitter, but he could have at least been just below average instead of a disaster. He had no power at all, maybe a result of pulling the ball less and hitting it to the center of the stadium more.

MLB Graphical Standings - October 2nd, 2023 (End of Season)

#

AL East
Orioles flapped and flapped and took the lead from the Rays
Jays were pretty consistent with hot streaks here and there
Yankees narrowly averted a sub-0.500 finish
Boston collapsed to finish the season

#

AL Central
Twins continued moving up
Tigers pounced and stole second from the Guardians
White Sox had an incredibly consistent decline in the second half
Royals had a small rebound near the end

#

AL West
Astros take the division with a tiebreaker over the Rangers, while the Mariners just couldn't keep it together after the massive winning streak
Angel's and A's keep slipping away

#

NL East
Braves dominated as usual, while the Phillies phought their way into WC1 and the Marlins used timely hitting to take WC3
Mets were a a disappointment, never recovering after a slide around game 60, while the Nats showed some signs of life

#

NL Central
All of the teams but the Cardinals made some noise during the season, but the Brewers ended up running away with the division as the Cubs faltered and the Reds never got back to +10 after game 108

#

NL West
Dodgers did it again, while the Diamondbacks did their best to give away a WC slot at the end. Padres put it together in the last month. The Giants are moving south to a nursing home, and the Rockies continue to subduct

#

Second Half Runs Scored vs Runs Allowed
Brewers had insanely good second half pitching
Bats stayed alive for the Braves, Astros, Dodgers, Twins (?!) and Cubs
Giants forgot how to hit. They were literally worse than the A's after the all-star break in that regard
Dodgers were the best and the White Sox were the worst teams after the ASB

All playoff hunt teams aside from the Marlins and Diamondbacks were above the 0.500 stripe

Notable hot-half teams: Padres, Tigers
Notable second-half stinkers: Giants, Yankees

#

#

Closing Award - the ability to stay on top
Most teams rarely relinquish a lead, with the Rays unsurprisingly at the top
Rockies blew leads and lost 22% of the time

#

Torture Award - Record in 1-run games
Marlins were +21 in 1-run games, soundly beating the Orioles who were +14
Reds had the most such games with 63 of them in total
Padres again rank last in this metric, going 9 and 23

#

Least Consistent Teams - the teams with the most variation over the season

#

Longest squiggles - the longest stretches of WLWLWL
Pirates had a streak of 9
Brewers and Padres had a streak of 8

#

#

Runs Scored vs Runs Allowed - full season
Diamondbacks were the most average team

Braves had the best record

#

Yandy Diaz in 2023: .330/.410./522, 22 home runs, 4.7 WAR, 164 wRC+ (leads all first basemen in MLB)

#

Unfortunately I think the 1st base penalty and baserunning penalty to his WAR will probably rob him of 3rd in the MVP race, but what an absolutely insane season for the batting champ. With how insane Olson and Freeman were this year, it's awesome to see that he kept up with them offensively.

If you feel like the games haven't been great this year, you are correct! This is the most blowouts (20+ point wins) the NFL's seen through 4 weeks since 2014

#

Last time we had this many blowouts, your rookies of the year were Odell Beckham and Aaron Donald. Drew Brees led the league in passing yards, DeMarco Murray led the league in rushing, and Mr. Big Chest himself was 1st in receiving.
