First time properly painting a mini, I do have some experience with painting bigger stuff like model kits but never approached a actual mini and was indecisive on how to prime it.
I was considering on going with zenithal priming but idk if it's a good idea as a complete newbie here.

You can achieve basically the same results using rattlecan, brush, or airbrush. Which tool you use is dependent on what you have available.

There is no “best” way to do it. It’s totally up to you and is just a basic step in preparing the miniature for paint. Don’t overthink it.

If you have an airbrush you can use it. If you don’t then just dab it on with a crappy brush. Or if you have a few models to do and access to an outdoor space you can rattlecan.

There’s a good video by Gnillab here for brushing it on. #tutorials-database message

and a good video by goobertown hobbies on rattlecan priming. https://youtu.be/NKH98iq6Xhg

As for Zenithal or not - zenithal is required if you’re using contrast/quick-gen/speedpaint-style paints. It is not required beyond that.

It can be helpful to establish a “light map” and help pick out details on the model if you have trouble seeing them. But again it is not required when painting with higher opacity paints (ie not contrast-style paints). So it is just a personal preference thing.

Get your minis ready to paint! This is THE introduction video for applying primer to your Warhammer and D&D models and beyond!

I'm building the minis from the Gundam assemble set, so it would make sense to go white for the middle and right one due to the colours then right?

Yeah it’s typically easier for colours like reds, yellows, whites, etc to be painted over white vs black.
