Hello everyone. I am painting this Gollum as gift to a friend.
I am a bit upset, think it is awful. I think the skin should be more gray than that, shouldn't?
Also I have no idea of what I am doing with its hair. Any tips are appreciated.
Thanks a lot.

His colors vary strongly based on what lighting he is in, since the movies use lighting to make him look more sinister

#

Here, for instance, we see a lot of blueish purple in the shadows

#

Here he has more reds in his skin tone
And the same for alternate depictions, like from that shitty Gollum game that came out a few years back

#

So what I would do is push more color into the shadows and wrinkles, which will also give you a more greyish look since grey is a mix of blue/red/yellow

#

His eyes in your image look awesome! Gollum always has those big, strikingly blue eyes, so I would play into that and put a lot of time into the face to really highlight the nice work you've done on the eyeballs. You can also shade his eyes, he always has these bags underneath that would really give you the haggard look.
For the hair, in all cases he has quite dark (almost black) hair, which would make those wisps on his head stand out a lot more.
And then finally, Gollum's skin is filled with all sorts of blemishes and liver spots and what not. You could do this fairly easily with a fine point brush!

@sturdy grotto Thanks a lot for the messages!!!

Unfortunately my friend arrived very few days after I sent these messages. So I did not had much time to improve the piece.

#

But he said he liked it. So I think it is fine.

#

I offered my friend to try some stuff, but he said it was good enough for him.
All I did was varnishing everything, and I applied glossy varnish into the eyes.

#

Thank you very much again, @sturdy grotto. Really appreciated the tips.
Maybe some day I try this piece again.

Do I have to mark this chat/thread as solved?
