#Red-hot barrels

I'm working on a somewhat large display piece, and instead of doing the more common blueish barrel burn of a cooled barrel, I wanted to do it as if it was either mid-fire or just finished and still red hot

This is for a 40k knight scale laz cannon.

I am having issues finding good guides or tips on how to do this though.

Has anyone done it or seen good tutorials on this style?

It feels like it would be different from just a fire sword type look

I have had this saved for a while and unfortunately don't know the source.

Starting from white is important. Can't get this effect otherwise.

You may want to add more white along the way.

The brightest yellow needs to be higher value than you think. Almost white.

Fluo orange can help but don't expect magic.

Don't expect it to look like it's glowing. It will look like it's painted orange in real life.

On photos with black background the effect sells. In hand it doesn't as much.

These photos use a trick where the background slowly starts to glow as well. Don't expect your painted gun to actually emit light.

There's a lof of trickery involved when you see photos of this stuff so I can't stress enough that you need to manage your exepectations.

Thanks! My concern is scaling that up. The barrel I'm working on is almost 4" long

Trying on a test scrap... Does any of this at all even remotely read as hot metal and not just orange.

Does this read better? I know without actual texture placing the dark is hard.

More parts than not will probably be the darker color but that's the hardest to place without texture to work off

Because I only have one and it's resin and I don't want to risk damaging it stripping when I screwed up.

Realized that was much to yellow though, ended second attempt with this

Just trying to get the color blend right
