I'm painting a somewhat larger model, but I have no idea what to do to get the effect I'm looking for, or if I can even get it done with the paints I have. I've never really painted anything before.

I want to do a sort of woody, tree trunk kind of base with greenish vines wrapping around it, but the thicker vines that support the monster flowers have thinner vines wrapped around them, so I don't know how to paint them to make it different enough visually.

For Poison Ivy, I want to have a pale green skin with darker green for the leaves wrapping her body, but all the tutorials I've found on green skin are leaning way too yellow like for goblins or orcs. The alternative is a bluer green, but that also feels wrong?

I hear what you're saying. I didn't think what I was considering was high concept, but from where I'm starting I guess it is. I just have so many resin prints sitting in boxes, and none of them are really 'small' - Poison Ivy was one of the few that kind of made me excited to paint, but I think she's also the largest print I have. The smallest ones are still like 140mm tall, though.

Do you have any recommendations for simpler models to start with? I have a resin printer and can print something if I have the file.

Smaller isn't easier in my opinion, and having a vision is good, just expect it to be hard at first as you figure things out 🙂

There are many small challenges as part of learning and it's likely you'll have some big issues in your first pieces. That's fine of course, and it's pretty easy to just paint over things many times. I don't discourage you from stating wjtb this model

What paints and materials do you have? Have you watched any getting started videos or otherwise gotten yourself informed?

On thinner and thicker vines, you can usually find answers in references. In this case I imagine the thinner vines will be lighter and a bit closer to yellow.

You so not need a tutorial for painting green skin. No need for recipes. Dark shadow, mid mid tone, brighter highlight. Use a wet palette (home made) and mix in shadow and highlight colors to adjust the midtone. Pale skin tone is a good highlight color.

If the color looks wrong you can play around on the palette til it matches your imagination / references
