Kontio is peak mech design, if you disagree and your name isn’t Tom, fight me
That's fighting talk from the start ... I like it
And yes the kontio is great design but might not make you many friends on the gaming table 🤣
Learned from experience, but who needs friends when you can take off people’s heads?
I’d win with prep time
I was just going through my collection of still unpainted mechs and noticed a black knight, now I'm thinking of painting it up as Danai Liao-Centrella's black knight
that’s a cool scheme, you should DO IT
I think I should give her at least a command lance, would be a shame only painting ONE mech like that
Well fuck yeah bro, get that command lance
Good looking Lance
Black Knight: "Fists for your pleasure."
Ready for the table!
those turned out great
Giant robot day
Hell Yeah!! Have a great time and may the dice be in your favor
Not sure if they were in our favor, though I guess two opposing mechs just kinda accidentally falling over did help us a lot. This mission was garrison duty, had to defend the four towers visible on the map and the opponent had a bunch of weird mechanized jump troops that tried to invade and destroy them
We were in pretty bad shape, but managed to kill almost all of the enemy infantry and all of the lighter mechs that actually were able to get close so the rest turned tail and we won
Three of our four mechs were kinda on the verge of blowing up so was somewhat close
GDL 3151 isn't much of a "legion" 🤣
Cool to see the infantry and tanks painted too 🔥 Yesterday was actually the first time we had those on the field as actual models
Are the tanks some sort of hover things?
Yes these are hover APC to transport the infantry
Nice. I don't know much about the different stuff in the game, I just go play 😁 We have a GM who knows a ton and has a zillion books for everything, he makes all of our scenarios
Do you play alpha strike or the classic version?
I tend to play more alpha strike these days and played loads of classic Battletech in the past, we had a mercenary RPG campaign going for almost 10 years that played from 3025 all the way to 3068, by the end most players played the children of their original characters 😁
Wow 🤯!! That’s awesome
With 3 of the guys I'm currently playing a campaign during the final years of the original Star League, and we're already playing 3 years on that and are just turning the tide in the Taurian Concordat and have met Alex K. during a strategy meeting on New Vandenberg
I need to find a group like that. Maybe I could learn some lore that way 😅
I'm still reading the liberation of Terra part 2 but so far we only needed part 1
It's good motivation to stay ahead of the players 🤣
My next purchase is going to be “Battletech: Universe” to get a grasp on the lore
It's a nice book and gives a good overview of each era
Good to know
I'm using it to figure out what in Kerensky's name happened during the dark age and republic eras
That sounds really cool, yeah!
We have a pretty long standing group too, but have had long pauses in between
Next goal is to have your actual children join the campaign
I tried, she said it didn’t look like fun 😢
did you try classic or Alpha Strike? 👀
Classic. She only likes games that are short. Even Alpha Strike would be too much
Maybe next time try alpha strike rules with two urbanmech plushie against each other that's over quickly 😁
how is the force manual kurita @glacial bluff
It's cool. I wish there was something to do with classic but the rules in it are just for alpha strike. Half the book is lore about different regiments which is why I got it. It's also cool to see what mechs were common or rare for them
Cool, and yeah a lot of their books focus on AS for some reason.
I have some stuff in one of the upcoming books I think
but I missed the kurita and davion projects
I was looking but didn't recognize anything. There are some ghost regiments i recognized because they all have weeb freehand on them. I'm surprised arclight's hatamoto chi wasn't in there. Fanjoy did a two page painting tutorial which is cool. If you let me know which ones you're in I'll pick them up.
Invading Clans I'm in
I did ghost bear beta galaxy for it
Sweet
hello stompy robot friends - i recently got some stuff from the mercenaries kickstarter but i'm still pretty much a complete newbie when it comes to battletech and was wondering if anyone has good suggestions in how to split up my forces if I need to paint them up as two different sides so I can play with my son
i'm currently leaning towards doing green dudes vs blue dudes in a very vague eridani vs rasalhague/ghost bear kind of direction but just not sure how best to split them
I guess it depends on how sweaty you want to get. Not all mechs are generally available to all factions, but the smallest division you could make is doing inner sphere and clan. If you're just trying to have fun then it doesn't matter. When playing you want to keep variants within the same time period so inner sphere mechs and clan mechs are more or less equal. For example an innersphere mech variant from 2800 is probably going to get stomped by any mech (clan or inner sphere) from 3050 era. Again if you're keeping things simple then I would recommend doing kurita vs davion who have strong opposing color schemes
a slightly more segregated approach would be doing an inner sphere vs a clan break down like kurita vs smoke jaguar or lyrian vs jade falcon
kurita's most prominent and recognized regiments are the sword of light (red) https://camospecs.com/unit/1st-sword-of-light/
davion's most iconic scheme is blue with red and white stripes like this https://camospecs.com/unit/davion-assault-guards-rct/
if you wanted to break it down into IS vs Clans then lyrans were invalid by clan jade falcon. lyran's most iconic scheme is half white and half blue like the 10th guard https://camospecs.com/unit/10th-lyran-guards-rct/ while clan jade falcon uses mostly greens you can find various schemes here https://camospecs.com/factions/clan-jade-falcon/
jaguars are usually greys https://camospecs.com/factions/clan-smoke-jaguar/
cheers for the comprehensive response - was more looking for how do you split the mechs up than schemes, pretty happy with what i have so far in that respect
specifically, like this
So you can do it completely randomly if you've already painted stuff it ultimately doesn't matter. If you wanted to be more true to what a faction would commonly have available you can use something like masterunitlist.info or I use an app called MechFactory. For example the green unit is a vindicator commonly used by capellan fedaration.
cool thank you
Two games of alpha strike today with 3500 points per side
Heading out for a recon raid
Damn what kind of chips are those
Sourcream black pepper, tasted like basic chips pretty much
My grasshopper just double punched a basically full armor annihilator in the head killing it instantly, which was nice!
Hell yeah grass hoppers rule
Yeah grasshopper is my favourite. It's kind of a boring/one dimensional laser only thing, but I've modified it a bit to have some different options (but it's still all lasers!)
Put some small pulse lasers on its toes and a small laser on its head, so I can fire toe+head+torso lasers and punch with both hands
And then some extra ER medium lasers on the arms when I don't have to punch
Also we have finally progressed to the year where an actually decent variant of the Warhammer is available, so I can finally get one and say I'm painting some Warhammer
@drowsy pawn I think you asked if there is battletech channel?
Tyty
so... that's going to be a thing then?
(I'm still convinced it's just an Aprils fools released to early :P)
https://bsky.app/profile/catalystgamelabs.bsky.social/post/3ll5gvws4a42r that's a lot of text for an April's fools but still 🤣
looking into battletech because cheaper than arhammer and curious after gundam game announcement, thinking about grabbing a beginner box off amazon
they want $65 for the first edition beginner box
lol
the minis being pre-assembled is a bit of a minus for me too, hmm
This beginner box?https://fortress-miniatures-and-games.myshopify.com/products/battletech-beginner-box-40th-anniversary?_pos=1&_sid=76aa63ccf&_ss=r
DEPLOYMENT IN THREE...TWO...ONE... BattleTech is the world's greatest armored combat game, filled with epic stories and gaming experiences to satiate any player: miniatures to RPG play, hobby painting to fiction, and beyond. The BattleTech Beginner Box is the first step on that fantastic journey and includes everything
It's only $20
Armored combat which is more comes with two lances and a better rule book iirc and is only 45 https://fortress-miniatures-and-games.myshopify.com/products/battletech-the-game-of-armored-combat-40th-anniversary?_pos=1&_sid=46214be2d&_ss=r
THE GALAXY AWAITS! It is the dawn of the thirty-first century. You are a MechWarrior: master of a multi-ton, towering avatar of destruction that is the culmination of more than 3,000 years of battlefield technology development. A precious heirloom passed from parent to child across centuries, an unassailable mark of yo
yeah but the second edition not the 40th anniversary, there's a listing rn on amazon under $20. I was thinking about getting armored combat or alpha strike but my brother is being obtuse about wanting to play or not so don't wanna put to much into it and it's $50+ I think on amazon.
the beginner box is great if you just want to dip your toes in and try without much investment - for only twenty bucks it gives you two mechs to paint up to see if the preassembled thing is a dealbreaker/how you like dealing with the plastic as it's not the same style as warhams, there's some cardboard standees so you can try a larger game and see if you like it and it's all usable in "proper" games if you end up getting the agoac or as boxes. And if your brother decides not to play then oh well, twenty bucks isn't gonna kill you
