Which Witch is Which? If you have a witch, wizard, sorceror, or other personage of magic using abilities that needs some color added to their life, you're in luck! Post it, paint it, and get extra points.

STANDARD HOUSEKEEPING RULES :

You may prep your mini, this includes, gap fill, assemble, purchase and prime ahead of time. Paint should only be applied during the time-frame of the PAL.

Anyone can join in on the fun. Just share your mini first and paint within the time frame. Request your points in the point request channel by following the pinned post on how to ask for points.

You can't submit the same mini for multiple PALs or other multiple events. And units minis can't be split among the different PALS if they are identical .

Have fun and be nice to each other. Share some wips and some laughs.

I'm in with the witchhorn bust from mindworks.

I should find a spellcaster somewhere...

fallow obsidian
#

Small but mighty squirrel mage

native ice
#

I'll join this one. Got to pick something from the backlog

jolly summit
#

This will be my spellcasting piece of rock

azure viper

Looks like a Cragheart from Gloom/Frosthaven.

jolly summit

It is...spoiler... 😄

Got lots of options. Will probably join this one. Not sure with which.

Do you remember?

#

It’s September, gonna try to start my witch tomorrow.

velvet tundra

Which witch should I pitch 🤔

minor juniper
#

I should probably start looking at existing PALs before I start painting something...

#

He'd be a perfect fit

Working on the backdrop

Basically just burnt umber to create rock textures etc which i can glaze over, mostly painted with sponges and rags

First wip

jolly summit

Spellcaster is on its way to the gaming table.

azure viper
#

Started base coating, made me realise how awful this PVC sculpt is 😛

tired swallow
#

You guys are all getting started, now I'm stressed out, still haven't even had time to print mine 😂

zinc kernel
#

Some paint on today, the skin underpainting before the oils is still too dark though

delicate hound
#

That's an awesome model

zinc kernel
#

Yeah this was the model that triggered my interest/move to display painting

#

So, finally painting her

zinc kernel
azure viper
#

Starting to look real nice

azure viper
#

More work on this horrible sculpt today. Good thing we did this PAL so I could muster the strength to paint it 😛

#

I just can’t ever get these PVC sculpts to look nice

fathom ember
#

Seriously.

#

Fuck those chains.

azure viper
#

Fuck this mini, at least I don’t ever have to paint it again.

#

Her legs are like twice the height of her torso…

Working on the cloak.

minor juniper
fathom ember

Finished!

tired swallow
#

Wow 😍😍

zinc kernel
#

I really like the texture on the robe and the hints of purple

#

And the cool contrasts on the skin

fathom ember
#

I'm very happy with it, especially the hood. And thanks for noticing the cold shadows!

zinc kernel
#

Just started the oil stage on the legs, fairly happy with them

In order: primed (9/1/24); progress (9/15/24); finished (9/14/24).

The Myconid I finished at an earlier time.

Can someone remind me if I submit for points here or in the other channel?

He was a free promotional mini for the Loot studios arkham horror release

Making progress.
Think I might change the mask on the tall guy to black, as it's getting lost in the yellow currently

What are the rules for multiple submissions? Is it one and done or could I paint another caster for this pal?

(I misread the dates and thought it ended this month but with another month I am thinking I could add to the scene).

#

Starting to come along.

native ice
#

Calling these done apart from the bases

prisma lantern
#

Thinking about doing this shaman orcy creature.

native ice
#

Bases done. Calling these complete.
Only a few more and I'll be done with the cthulu wars minis after... a decade?

zinc kernel
prisma lantern
#

Just putting colors down without really putting efford in blending. Pretty much how I used to paint on canvas. Have to see if I can still pull that together. Just having fun really.

tired solar
#

Calling this done except for basing.

minor juniper
#

like if I didn't know we're on a minipainting server I could easily mistake it for a painting XD

zinc kernel
#

The original painting is still better

minor juniper
#

tbh I prefer the colours on your version

#

anyway, sick paintjob

#

how many hours did it take you?

prisma lantern
#

Done. Decided not to spend double the time to smooth it all out. So painterly it is 🙂

Shall start this lil fella soon

I just started painting this model, I hope it counts!

Ogroid thaumaturge! Who said a wizard has to be frail? :)

woeful geyser
#

Damn, when the stop-buying-along ends, I need to get a Skeletor mini.

#

He's just too cool.

native ice
#

someone here recently did an outstanding skeletor

#

it was mahuti

#

don't know where he got the mini from though

woeful geyser
#

You can 3d print all kinds of stuff nowdays.

woeful geyser
#

It's my first time doing a paint-along, so tell me: if I fail to finish it in time, do I lose points?

native ice
#

Nope. Just don't get the bonus points

#

Or you can ignore the points entirely like myself, and just do it to keep yourself motivated 🙂

quasi knoll
#

Going to give this dude a shot.

devout saddle

Got this little halfling warlock to paint

tired swallow

First time painting again in like two months- I did an awful job with support removal, but am liking the color combos so far

native ice
dim tree

Super duper quick dnd mini.

autumn escarp
#

Finished this guy up. Pretty much. Probably going to go back over his text.

prisma lantern
# zinc kernel The original painting is still better

Not sure I agree. The origional is obviously an awesome painting with awesome colors. Yours is also awesome. I rather like the more popping colors and contrast on yours for a miniature. Think medium really matters here for what I would concider best.

naive vortex
#

Finished off this lil guy

#

Decided to go for a bit of a colour swap from the one I did last year

devout saddle
#

A warlock and his demonic summons.

elfin ridge
#

I'll paint an old Fateweaver. Going to use him as a Daemon Prince since he's so small compared to the current one. Just need to make up a base that will raise his height a little bit too (he's 1/4" shorter then a current DP, and that's counting his staff).

slim condor

I'll try to do the Akadh Magician from Relic Blade for this

Making progress- I am so proud of the bases, and these eyes are driving me absolutely insane, who woulda thought that 32mm makes for some EXTREMELY small eyes

Finished! They look better irl, the eyes were an absolute nightmare and I refuse to change them at this point, but I really love these models- might print them again at a bigger size

#

the bleached yellow, yeah

#

the trim will be blue steel

#

it's just sketched atm, so more the color

#

is it too bold?

native ice
#

personal choice: not a fan of the colour. The teal and the orange work really well together, and then the yellow is bright without a focal point and does not complement either other colour

#

I would stick with a darker colour to draw the eye to the orange again

surreal minnow
#

fair, thanks for the feedback 👍

native ice
#

I actually like the inside of the cape - black with orange light highlights might work well

#

that way you're incorporating the highlight into the "colour triangle" on the mini, without it being as strong a highlight

glacial dock
#

Finally getting some work in on this one

surreal minnow
#

grinding on... closing in on refinement 😅

#

sticking with the cloak, makes the back of the model more interesting

mint zodiac
glacial dock
#

Getting closer - any thoughts on trim color for the cloak? Also how i could work that red in some other places?

native ice
#

IMO: go with a burnished gold. There is a lot of red in it so it will offset the green, and you can shade down to a red away from your lightsource

glacial dock
#

Also is going to be part of this warband if it makes a difference

#

Other ones are still wip

So I'll try and incorporate some things there too

The splotchyness

Absolutely fighting me every step of the way today

It's getting closer though

Hopefully tomorrow or Wednesday

If anyone's got any tips for the eyes let me know. Something feels off about them, but everything else i tried was worse

If you're looking for C&C, the reason for it is ||because the area directly around the eyes is brighter than the cheeks or brow, which are typically the highlight places on a face. It would make sense if you "dirty" the mini up, as that is a natural result of dirt on someone's face. The quick way to fix that would be to add pigment powder around the mini to dirty it. Otherwise, I would say adding a touch of wash directly around the eye to darken it (but not the eye itself) would make it look more natural||

#

copied from google: Your light should look like this, because of the staff glow

#

||see how the eye socket is darker||
