Ive settled on an army scheme and painting style im quite happy with currently.

However want to make improvements on my order

My issue is with the Yellow armour. I airbrushed it, and airbrushing yellow armour is NIGHT AND DAY in terms of ease of application.

But... to do it, i masked off everything around it.

Is there anything i can do to avoid needing to mask it?

Currently Prime Brown, Zenithal, Mask, Airbrush yellow, then proceed with my painting.

But because i'm using contrast paints, its quite important not to mess with the zenithal too much, or the underpaint prep

Order:
redbrown primer (airbrush)
ivory zenithal (airbrush)
white drybrush
MASK AND YELLOW
Skin
leather
Weapons
Weathering
etc Etc

Why not use a brush for the yellow? Since there's not as much of it on the model, in terms of total surface area, it might be easier.

You can always pink then yellow. You will likely need less coats that way and you can use a contrast/ink for the yellow.

Ahh, do you have red and white? That should do the job well enough and you can manage how deep your pink is.

You can also use light brown under the yellow if you're going for a less orange based yellow

Forget the mask, bring the airbrush close to the surface you are working on and press the trigger with small jets.

A yellow tinted brown does wonders as a base for yellow.

On the weapons its fine because im going over with metal, so i just sprayed casually

On most shoulders im SHOCKED how neat i could make it, but made a few errors

I ignore it, the color ends up integrating during the painting process of the adjacent area, especially since I usually use a very marked outlining in the transitions between different areas of the mini. Another thing you can try is to use more diluted paint in the airbrush, which will make any oversprays softer.

If it is similar to this I believe so...

I use the airbrush a lot with inks or Contrasts, for glazing, smoothing transitions and adding hues after working with lights and shadows and with a little practice you will get the hang of it and make fewer mistakes when pulling the trigger.

The whole mini is pretty yellow - at least in the first photo. Can you do zénithal then yellow on airbrush, then contrast paints by brush to do the other stuff, followed by opaque paints to pick out tje details?
