I kinda love looking at weathered minis but can’t help feel like this just looks straight up ass (despite me liking it), and I’d want it more precise… the only thing I really really dislike is the teeth (had no idea how to get nice detail on them) anyone got any help/gentle critique?
#This is one of my first minis…

Looks nice dude. Keep pushing forward and paint more. At the beginning, the biggest improvements will come from practicing.
Set deliberate goals and start exploring basics of shading and highlighting.
As for teeth a fine tipped brush and magnifiers is my approach. You can also get away with painting the whole mouth area a light color and then go over it with a wash (very thinned paint) and let it settle in the recesses.
There are pre-made washes for this type of thing as well.
Yeah, what Gnillab said basically! The teeth are very good for washes, though if you want them to be black and still show detail, you're going to have to paint them some greyish color before hitting them with a wash. Otherwise the deeper areas won't be darker, so the definition isn't going to be there
Can probably start with a pretty light color in that case
For a beginner, this looks great! However if you want to improve the first thing I’m seeing on here is the paints aren’t really thinned down enough, and paint being thinned down is crucial for a better paint job. There are plenty of tutorials on YouTube, but what I like to do is, take a wet palette(homemade or premade) and thin my paints to the consistency of skim milk or almost full melted ice cream. However the folks on YouTube do a way better job of explaining it
Oh really? That surprises me, I feel like I thin them almost too much. Maybe I'm just not used to seeing super blotchy first coats yet and need to get used to that.
Thanks! Have done that and want to explore edge highlighting next, I've tried that on a new nid and I absolutely suck at it, far too think and shaky for my liking. Might just need cleaning up though.
