Hi all! It's been awhile since I've posted and that's due to me being deployed to the middle east. My wife, the angel that she is, got me a miniature paint kit to do a little bit in the small spots of downtime i get. I'm excited to keep my skills from getting rusty but I have a question I could use help on. Normally I use rattlecan army painter primer. I can't get that shipped to me unfortunately but I did see Vallejo surface primer black on Amazon that could ship to me. Is primer something I could paint directly into a mini or is something like that strictly for use in an air brush? Does anyone have advice for how I could prime these with just brushes or products that could recommend?

Yes you can apply it straight to the mini using a brush.

Learn to paint miniatures using drybrushing, enamel washes and basic edge highlighting.

Vallejo also has a spray can of their primers which with essentially the same as army painter.
People also recommend any other primer for cars and what not as long as it's suited for minis these are usually way cheaper. I have no experience with these myself
You can apply Vallejo Surface Primer by brush, or the Monument primer or Stynlrez also. Nothing special to it, just slap it on.
Can't get spray where I am.
I use vallejo black surface primer on my miniatures with a brush. Works fine. Just make sure the mini is clean and dry and don't thin it for best adherence.
