what specifically are you wanting to improve or accomplish?
Mostly trying for a purple and green kind of idea
A bit difficult to give tips without knowing what your aim is... I'll give it a try:
In general, have a sketch in your head (or on paper or whatever) of which main colors you want where in the end. A reference picture (if you saw a similar color scheme somewhere) helps a lot to shape your idea about the final colors.
Then I would put a white base coat over the areas you want to paint green. It will be more vibrant than applying it over purple, and you will only need a thin coat of green.
^ agree with all of the abover. unfortunately "trying for a purple and green kind of idea" is... a bit too broad to give advice on lol. even "purple" and "green" are very broad terms

your best results for now will probably come from just applying a midtone, using a wash to recess shade, and then drybrushing some global highlights on for the plates while edge highlighting the trim
