I'm currently settling on a space marine colour scheme. The theme's I'm currently going for is:

  • Arabian golden age
  • Desert worlds with a royal theme

I am pretty settled on the armour colour and the pads, but I'm thinking about the accents in the eyes, shoulderpad trims and the acquila. Suggestions are more than welcome.

The red would be for officers

One important thing before you proceed

#

are you sure you want to paint that much yellow?

#

without an airbrush, it's more technically demanding than pretty much any other colour by a fair margin

#

some commission painters even charge extra for yellow or white simply because they're more time consuming no matter your skill level

#

you have to get your underpaints right and fixing mistakes gets rough

If you go with a yellow ochre or similar “earthy” yellow, it’s much easier than a fully saturated yellow since the paint is more opaque.

If you’re doing normal yellow, I’d definitely look at Richard gray’s imperial fist tutorials since it’s a pretty foolproof recipe for both with and without airbrushes

Just checking, and I think I used the old Vallejo sun yellow for some of my imp fists. It’s very translucent, which means unlike a yellow with lots of titanium white mixed in for opacity, it’s extremely saturated. It works really well with richard’s technique. Although the technique is time consuming for a single model, it works great with batch painting whether or not you have an airbrush, so it’s perfectly doable if you want to knock out a whole army with it

I've tried it, worked out great! I still need to figure out placement by moving paint but it's a good first time
