#First time Speed Paint and Slap Chop

Hello! This is my first time using Speed paint and the slap chop method. My main question is about how bright your dry brushing should be... I left some spots rather dark and have noticed that the Speedpaint did not do well over that area. I thought this might just be because the speedpaint is pink and that does not cover well? However I moved onto a blue and that seems to be not covering well over the darker areas either. Should I have done more drybrushing? Or do I need another coat of speedpaint over the whole thing again?

Thanks for any help!

I have also considered that I might need to use a thicker coat of the speed paint. I just painted another blue one leaving a much thicker amount of speedpaint on

Heya! So normally for speed paints you want as much contrast prior to application . You'll get the brightest color on the white surfaces. Now some colors similar to normal ones don't cover as good as others. So testing them before hand is helpful

On darker areas it won't show up quite as vibrant and usually will remain darker. Some people will do white to grey instead of to black areas for some.models

Thanks! I think one of my problems is it has shown up very blotchy and im not sure why that is. It did improve significantly on a model that I did two coats on! I think in retrospect maybe I shouldnt have primed them black, but maybe a grey and then drybrushed in white

Maybe, its blotchy in very weird places. I think mostly in places that I couldnt dry brush well, not really places that I think the paint would pool. Its like the paint didnt cover well over those places because they were left mostly black

Are you mixing in a speedpaint medium?

I am not. I am not really sure what the Medium is for

#

I think a lot of it has to do with the black priming and poor dry brushing. I am repriming one of them in white and going to try again and see how it comes out

For speedpaint, I prime in black also, but I drybrush white pretty heavily. Unless you want an area to remain dark, you might be better off with a grey prime or bonewhite maybe. Medium is to thin the speedpaints, but if you're happy with the paint out of the bottle then stick with it.
