Does anyone also has trouble applying washes to speed paint metallic? It loses luster and only leaves some shiny patches. Haven't tried oil wash, only water based. I also noticed similar effect after drying without wash, if the paint was applied on top of another layer of speed paint. For example, metallic over blue will have a chance of producing uneven shine.

I am really worrying about varnishing, will it affect the shine?
Yes. Anything you put over metallic will affect the shine. Gloss will affect it less, but it will alter some. A gloss varnish may help unify the uneven luster between the washed and unwashed parts.
I don't know about SpeedPaint metallics, but many metallics don't have even coverage on their own and need multiple coats, so that could be your coverage issue over the blue
Thank you. I want to do a spray can varnish after fixing the coats, will it affect them?
how long did you let the speed paint dry before putting the wash over it? i’ve had problems with reactivation and most of the time i just solve that by giving the speed paint good 30-60 minutes past dry to set up.
Around 30 minutes. Redoing coats right now, will let it dry overnight
In my experience, drybrushing your metallics after applying color or wash is a nice way to bring back the shine, and you could also do it after varnishing
Drybrush with metallic paint?
yep
