So every time i shade a model and come back to layer over, it leaves this really weird way of the paint applying? like it never fully covers? any ideas why this is? am i using too much shade?

Do you have a picture? But based on that alone it sounds like the shade you're using might just leave a glossy or otherwise hard to stick surface and you'll just need more layers for it to stick and cover properly

and they are incredibly glossy

The GW shades shouldn't be that glossy unless you use a large amount and have significant pooling in my experience

Do you have any pictures?

I've heard they dry out very glossy in some cases if not shaken super well

shake shades very hard before using, sometimes pigment is sitting on bottom of mini and amount of medium in uneven mix give glossy surface which isnt very adhesive and make paint stick worse

GW also sells a gloss version of some shades and they are insane glossy. It's not unheard of that someone gets gloss by accident. It'll say on the label tho

Some gw shades just seem glossy always. Reikland fleshshade dries glossy and gross for me even if I shake it like the apocalypse. Tbh I’m slowly moving to stopping washes altogether and only using them for detailed recess shading. 😒
