Wing a ding dong here we go
W I N G S
This would be fun. I’ve got a few epic pieces that I could do for this one when the time comes
I'm sure i got something for this!
As long as it got wings, you're fine
Yay
oh v v cool
Possibilities I acquired today
Ooo some very good options
I wasn’t planning on getting any minis today, but my friends shoved them in my hands and I had to buy them haha
Cleaning up those mold lines will be a pain in the butt though
You touch em, you buy em
Does that apply to gloved hands too?
Yes
its the principle of the matter
Count me in
Just double-checking as a matter of principle: you didn't say "natural" thing, so a plane would fly by this paint along? 😂
Ok this mama griffon and her chicks for the Wing Along
I personally would say, yeah sure... They are wings, it flies.
Thinking about doing this one. A 1999 ral partha dragon.
Hurdle one, can I actually get it assembled without rage quiting 😉.
Metal, doesn't fit that wel together. Have to pin everything. Probably a nightmare to put together (and why I never started it even if i have it for almost 20 years already.) So definitively a full assemble before painting. Not my fav part of the process.
I only found one assembled and painted example on the web, ral parthas own. And I want to paint it quite different. That makes it more fun for me though.
Even it parts it looks so cool.
I'm really interested in how you work through this. I have a model that is similar and has some sentimental value. I've been putting off doing anything with it as I've not seen anyone do anything like it and I'm worried about screwing it up
I am not really scared about screwing it up. Doing anything with it is better then never doing anything with it . Besides you can always strip metal. I go slow with assembly. One part at a time. Let the glue dry, the filling putty and all that too overnight before doing the next bit. Better slow and steady with strong connections then have the whole thing come apart. And hey, if the mini is one of the only ones of its kind, easier to make it one of the bests ones out there 😉
Heh I'm scared for screwing up my project. I'm sure you'll be fine. I would love if you would share anything you learn on it
I can't strip mine its part of the sentimental value, was painted by my grandfather but never assembled
Assembling a painted hard to put together metal miniature you definitely don't want to damage the painting off is a whole different level. Doubt i would dare to do that. There is a reason i assemble fully first when there is no risk of ruining paint. The methods and how i work on this now absolutely would wreck any paintjob.
I completely agree. Its why I have been putting it off. Though I am pulling the thread away from its purpose. I'll post up for reccomendations in #1019648110085034046 when I am ready for it
Gapfilling to do still. Extra stability by already glueing the legs on the base. And the worst bits still to do. The wings with little actual surface, let alone flush fitting still to attach.
Metal might be harder to put together but I do like the gentle bending possibility of this figure as I didnt like the original more upright stance and bend of the neck from the front. Easy fixes making it look less humanoid and more dragonlike
Hopefully it will hold. Lot of weight on two small hip joints. But so far so good
Such a cool sculpt
Following my inventory, I'm hesitating between my angel and this one:

Oh I'm in! I just need to pick something now....
Found a mini for our Druid. I asked him how he wants me to paint it. He said a gradient of light and dark brown with white head
It is the first time I’m trying gradient.
Should I do a wash or try to create highlights without it?
You started to early to count for the PAL seeing you start painting in May at the earliest. Looks good as a start though.
No problem. This is actually a test mini. I have another one that I want to paint that looks similar (and if not, it is ok, I keep forgetting submitting my minis anyway).
I still would love the help.
I did used wash and it destroyed the mini. I raged quit :(
Nah, don’t rage quit. 😉 go back over the mini with your base coat, except in the recesses where the wash has added darker volumes. This will bring the colors back up, while still maintaining the darker areas created by the wash
Then you can start your layering for the highlight gradient
I worked so hard on that gradient and was happy about it! Now it is just a back bulb.
I’ll do what you said later. I need some time to overcome this mistake xD
You can also create the same gradient going to shadow the same way you did the light, layer down without the need for a wash. Or, perhaps start at the darkest and just layer up. Not sure of your workflow or process, but I like starting with dark and going to light, as opposed to starting at mid tones.
I was gonna say the colours are dark enough as it is. But loan mowing got in the way. 😅
Listen to Chromium's advice. It is common in miniature painting to go up and down and up and down and up. And... You got it. 😉 It's actually good to accumulate layers.
Thank you all guys! I'll try to fix it
I'd say never wash a miniature all over, and if you use a wash only on high detailed areas like fur and such. It will almost always muddy up colors, ruin smooth blends. For me it never dries even and just where I want it. It pools and stains. I glaze areas specifically and dont ever use runny paint anymore. For me washes seem like a fast method at first and looks ok while still wet (and thus smooth), but in the end always end up more work correcting it then if I used another method. I find the results always to random and umpredicatble. Save the highly textured areas as mentioned before. But even those need plenty of corrective work after or whiping away and guiding the wash before it dries on unwanted areas
@glossy pulsar I completely agree, I find with a few exceptions
Ooo, I can do my Autumn Queen for this one!
My Fallen angel from Darksword is a pain to assemble and prepare so I will switch to this:
I don't recall if I ever printed anything with wings 😱 ( recently I mean)
I fixed it in the end. If you have tips for improving it for when the paint along will start (this was a practice run) I’ll be happy to hear!
Ooo, I got one. A Beeholder!
It's got wings! So many wings..
Omg this is great
I picked up a pack of resin dye for the 'bees' set. Wish me luck on getting a honey color to come out right 🐝
I have several dragons I could choose from
Beeholder fresh off the press!
That’s great. I love it
All primed and zenithal
Trying to use my already printed stuff.. so... you're up Mothman 🤣
marking this PAL for later
Wings
I'm sure I'll have something with a pair of wings.
I'd like to enter Sauron here. No, not that Sauron, the other Sauron. 😂
#1063146022014046358 xD
Hey... 🤣🤣🤣
The wings are totally going to be the center of attention
Of course they are! ||What wings? 🤣||
Doing this Griffon family for Wing Along. Gonna do a resin pool at the bottom and have the mother and babies be removable.
i forgot about this paintalong but i have something i can use for it 😭😭
What material is that base?
Ok time to work on the Wing part of the Wing Along
Ok I guess this is the motivation I needed to tackle my dragon. Not daunting at all.
In fairness, I airbrushed it already red, decided it looked suboptimal, stripped it and reprimed it (and am now a bit terrified to go again tbh). Not sure if this still qualifies for the PAL?
Yup you are all good@
Since you are starting from scratch again 🙂
It wouldn't if you had saved some of the paint job etc.
Yeah, that makes sense. I mean it was fun to airbrush, but it turned out super flat and covered all the first zenithal lol
I think I'll try to actively follow the zenithal with the red tones this time.
If you do the airbrush you could make sure to really thin down the color. It wold require additional layers but you'd benefit the zenithal
Or to use transparent/semi-transparent colours. Which is the case of most reds
Also a good point/reminder, thanks! Still new to airbrushing (and painting anything larger than Space Marines, besides two dreadnoughts which I could paint in subassembly)
Gap filing, filing and scratching hopefully done 🤞
Changing my entry. Still going to paint up the dragon one day. But he bend through the pinning/glueing of the hip joint a few times now. Need to disassemble and assemble anew but more securely or he will keep faceplanting.
New ones: the bottom one is the base miniature provided by Hasslefree long ago for a sculpt competition, the entries were cast. I turned my copy into an angel (clothes and wings sculpted by me), and my friend turned his into a demon as companion piece. These are the two I want to place in a little diorsma for this PAL instead of the dragon.
A bit intimidating since I’ve never painted a model this big and detailed, but I’ll enter with this winged daemon prince
I bought this guy on Sunday figure I'll paint them up with some Tamia transparent paints
Progress. Didn't turn out much better than last time, but (I think) it's still somewhat of an improvement.
Now on to painting a billion bone pieces
Wings just fitted with a pin and not attached yet for ease of painting.
Painting this up for a local comp. Figured I’d enter it here too 😉
My victim - likely gonna be a quick speedpaint job, because I need that in my life right now
Aaaaand done
I cheated a bit and used speedpaints, not gonna lie haha. Hadnt painted in a month and needed to get back into the swing of things. Yours looks freaking sick!!
clear things just look cool
Got some WIP pics. The little markings have 2 more layers left to go
Aaaand done!
Calling mine done here
Yup
Just got an old lilith box for malifaux. I'll paint up the cherub for this.
Ah the Cherub. The one I did is pinned on a transparent rod. It seems the pin goes into his backside. 😅

I will try to paint this three mechanical doves for this PAL
Sooo cute
@potent mantle that is so cool, what paints did you use?
tamia clear for the dragon, and a Turbodork colorshift for the rock
Finished. Also got one of those table thingamajigs.
Maybe gonna paint over the base with a more gritty sand tone/technical paint, but I'm done with the model for the foreseeable future.
Editors Note, just realised you could hear my kids in the background lol
I enjoy the Ninth World, and I've had one of these guys sitting on my to-be-assembled shelf for a very long time. So he's scrubbed up!
Used the fancy printer at work to print off references for my squig
He reminds me of a Jackson's chameleon
But I think his wings would look good with veiled chameleon stripes
Got some base coloring done.
me who just realized I never finished mothman
And also started on this one.
Think I'll do these little guys if they count! It's a swarm of things with wings, so, hopefully that works.
That's most definitively wings 😁
My previous entries were apparently cursed. The first kept breaking down before painting, the second broke down (snapped the angel at the feet) when they flew off the table. So now this lady is my entry. Bit of a rush job, but I wanted to be done with the curse now this one still lives in one piece.
This is so cool
I can't justify getting it even though I collect that faction 😦 the dragon will have to do.
Oh no 😭. I really love that creature. Reminds me of a kirin and with that pose of the humanoid character it's pretty cool
Worked hard on these today, I'll finish them up tomorrow hopefully! It's difficult doing the details with just how tiny they are! 28mm scale plus tiny creatures
The three mechanical doves for my Colette Crew and this PAL are finished
Completed my bat swarm! My friend lent me their phone as a pseudo backdrop lol
I got a few strokes in and then remembered I needed a before picture!!!
I lost mothman so painted this in irs place. Not as cool i know. I will avenge mothman 😭
Ape-demon-thing for the win(g)!
And here they are.
Not my best work, kinda lost inspiration 😕
My entry, their wings may not be functional, but are still wings
We accept all wings
Cool, glad there are no judgments on size here 😏
Hell naw.
Lol now to paint this owlbear as a white spotted one
Let’s see
I kind of always thought owlbear wings were decorative lol until I saw the dnd movie 😂😂
Barely can tell@the difference
White speed paints are ass
Lol I hate him but sometimes game schedules dictate need
More to do…
This is looking cool!!
Here is my Sauron finished at last
Not perfect, I basically had airbrushed him green lights + purple shadows, but my brain couldn't figure how to go from there for 2 weeks. In the end, I just went in with a large brush (size 12), re greening most areas, and using magenta + Prussian blue to build shadows up. I tried a kind of sort of see through effect on the wings but I'm not sure it works. It was still fun to go about him!
Leave it to wyrd to make basing a chore. That crown resists all efforts to paint the inside
Not quite as good a paint as I had hoped, but I'm calling it done.
That transparent honey is a great touch. Love this one
Out of the Stygian Depths
Mine for this one along
I've just used chili flakes and mint leaves as a basing material for the autumn queen. I'll report back soon. O.o
@urban tusk flying apes terrify me !
Had y do more filling on my little dragon
Mine
Look at this angry birb 😍😍😍
Titania the Autumn Queen from malifaux is done. I'm happy to report that the leaf litter is convincing and spicy.
Calling it done here. By far the biggest model I've painted to date.
Love the colors
Got trip planned. Hope I can finish in time.
Those colors sure brightened up beautifully! Love the patterns and plumage
They call it an owlbunny...absolutely not a chicken-thing
Calling Mama Tropical Griffon and chicks done.
The chicks are removable on mini bases for play and I have a base that the mama can slot into currently drying.
It looks great
Speed paint time
Making progress, gotta finish tonight!
Yep, ivory on the underside, then yellow then orange
