Day 564, did some touchup work on some varnish jobs where the paint had rubbed off before I got to them the first time, a little primer on models similarly, and gave this guy some shorts. My initial read was that his bottom half was still shapeshifting, hence the different tones, but looking at his foot paws I don't think that's the case. So I need to pick a color tone I like, probably either the top or bottom, but not both.

Yeah they do! The details on the models are very tiny in some cases though. Like this one, I absolutely love the model, but I actually didn't enjoy painting it that much since it has so many tiny details that it gets a bit weird

I still recommend it a lot, the game is fun and the models are awesome

Day 964, more reading on sculpting, when blocking in the body do the leading edge of the wings but leave the rest free so you can push them out of the way while working on the body. Next smooth out the clay in the body. The next step is adding or subtracting to get the features in . For areas where 2 months muscles meet, draw in a line the smooth it without loosing the line

Day 967, reading more on sculpting, today was about sculpting legs. After you have built out the body and legs, draw some direction lines so you know which way the muscles go, add in the boney landmarks, using subtraction remove clay to indicate muscles, smooth it .

Read more on sculpting, starting on the head build the jaw line, brow ridge, draw in a center line to keep things symmetrical, draw a horizontal line to locate the eyes and keep their placement symmetrical, push in for the eye sockets, draw the mouth line, subtract some from the lower jaw so the upper jaw is over it

Day 969, heading home today, did some reading before heading to the airport. When sculpting the claws, do each separately, make a cylinder, for the digits, pinch out a claw and bend it slightly downward, pinch in to make the joints bulge out slightly. Cut any excess off the hands so only the palm part remains, attach digits, smooth. Curl fingers downward a bit

Day 233: Fixed up the leg of my kid's archer. The leg just snapped off the rock on the base, so I drilled the base and the leg and pinned them, then built a thicker leg and rock around them with green stuff, and then painted it. Should hopefully survive some more games!

You should have the basic paw shape, be sure you are clear on the anatomy of your particular species, create small tear drop shapes and apply for the toes, the two center toes should protrude more than the outside toes, blend the toes but leave definition to lines separating the toes

Yes, I use them for RPGs occasionally, although not as often as I might like. As guessed at, I've got parts of a number of Kickstarters -- mostly Reaper and Dungeons & Lasers -- going back years stored in my bins. I like painting them in general too, so I'll just go through and pull some out that are interesting or look like they've been sitting for a while too.

@pearl crow @wet anchor @obsidian estuary after having to repair minis I started doing something I saw on YouTube, I don’t remember who did it, but I use PowerPoint to make my plan, including photos and a list of what paints and where I use them. I then print them out and post on my wall so I can see immediately what paints go where and I can digitize in shapes over a photo of the mini and change the colors until I am happy. I know it’s a lot of work but it saves me time in the long run

I love the overall composition of the backdrop and the almost blown-out white spots in the clouds, it's all really well done. The V-shape of the mountains naturally draws the eye to the dwarf.

However I I feel like it doesn't quite fit with the model, the super crisp colors and lines on him kind of clash with the lines of the mountains which are sharp but also look like a painting of a mountain instead of an real mountain. I think you want to either go sharper and cleaner to match the style of the model more, or go further into soft and impressionistic kind of like a Monet so that the lines don't draw the eye as much.

I say all that being unable to draw such a thing myself, so take my opinion for what it's worth 🙂

More about consistency for me. If you keep thinning with water the colour starts to get blotchy and doesn't go on smoothly. Id guess something to do with surface tension and drying time

They're getting chaos heads in there. I'll have to sculpt some trim on them as well as make them taller like the new sculpts. These are the old starter set easy build ones.

Day 631, some priming, and also my partner gifted me a treasure here -- Tamiya thin, that I'm trying to use, particularly on the Peryton, to stabilize some of the bonds. Provided the actual cementing works, it's certainly a billion times easier to apply than the tube I had been using. A shame it's such a pain to get here (highly flammable/toxic and regular air mail don't usually mix well)

sweet abyss Love that celtos miniature

Hi 😃, yes, this mini is a true classic 😻, modeled by the talented Kev White (Hasslefree, currently at GW). He captures a pinup style without being vulgar. I love it. Unfortunately, Celtos had very poor quality control, or I was unlucky, as I bought very few of their products: 3 pinups and 3-4 from the Sci-Fi line. One I painted had no nose and its surface was covered in small bubbles, not to mention that the face also lacked definition. Fortunately, I was able to polish it using a dental tool and finishing it with a mini micro-grinding tool for buffing nails that I use to finish the 3D printed minis. 🙏

I am going to try and get a little ahead by doing the same for the Space Marines that need to go into the cockpit in a few steps. Not picture-worthy (mostly still just a black brick) but it's getting there.

Today was a full day and I'm just wrapping up for the evening. It's late and I have an early start tomorrow, so I think this is going to be the first broken link in the chain (unfortunately). I suppose I could always drag a brush over a mini but that feels like it would be in poor taste.

That said, I did hang out with my son for a bit while he was painting, and I looked at some hobby stuff, but mostly I reckon I'll be starting over. I realize this is a lot to post but I'm just keeping it real--appreciate how supportive y'all are in this channel.
