Day 25, continuing the advent streak with some bases that need doing for AOW3 (sorry assuming I can carry over the days, or do I need to start over anew for this channel?)

jovial jacinth
#

Day 756 working on skin tone while my sister * a non painter gave me backseat reminders of how creepy it is. She did not trust the process. Was good times lok

placid crystal
#

@wet anchor you don’t have to start over, this is about continuing your streak. It is also nice because this is a much smaller group and you can watch the progression of the minis from preparing to priming to basecoating all the way to the end, day by day. I find making a little progress every day works better for me than waiting for one whole day to make progress. Welcome to continuing streaking.

bitter gull

Streak Day 281, I continued working on smoothing transitions and better positioning lights and shadows, working on volumes, especially in the light area. I also needed to make a new saber because the original one came unstuck and I put it away, but at the moment I still haven't found where it is kept. 😅

torn relic
#

I remain impressed by all the streaks, let alone the multi-year ones. I can usually barely get 2-3 days in a row

placid crystal
#

@torn relic the rule of the streak is you have to do something that day, sometimes it is just a brush strokes or two, on trips it is sanding, scraping or reading about the hobby

While I officially left hobby streaking at the beginning of December, I have to announce that my streak is now broken having spent 24 hours without hobbying. Aprx 400 days finishing 450 figures in a one year period. Glad to have done it but also very glad to be no longer chained to it. Thanks all.

obsidian estuary

Streak day #1494
A day of rest

pearl crow
#

Streaking day 764: Repainting infinity stuff! Bought a second hand lot for cheap ages ago, now I'm finally gonna get to play with these so figured I'd give them a makeover. Basically adding a lot of highlights, cleaning up messy parts and repainting some parts totally

#

I guess the sad part is that these are probably not worth any points since they already had some color on them by someone else pepecry

wet anchor
#

Question - do we need to post our streak pictures every single day or is it just on the honor system and we can batch post an update for a couple days of work?

pearl crow

This isn't official in any way so you can handle it your way

wet anchor
# sweet abyss Day 91+2 painting some troll and thinking what to paint this year.

love the green and blue on the troll! Been thinking the same thing, I did a little spreadsheet for the upcoming all out war 4 and have something around 85 army minis to paint if I want--left over ghouls, unfinished pile of Stormcast from AOS, and a bunch of droids from Star Wars: Legion. And that's not to mention all the random one-off minis I have for various projects. So plenty of work to do, just a question of what to prioritize

obsidian estuary

Streak day #1495
Another light day

granite geode
#

Streak day 6: finished this little guy.

pearl crow
#

Streaking day 765: airbrushed some shadows and varnish on these (just to prep for brushwork, paint won't stick on them at all), magnetized their bases and broke and fixed the spear on my eidolon

thorn stump

Day 372, Put some more color on the bottom of yesterday's kraken, where I didn't want to paint because it was sitting on that part. Too tired to do too much though, so instead you get a picture of my work from the other part of the night:

obsidian estuary
#

Streak day #1500
Did some more today, started a bunch of stripping along with this one

daring vale
#

Day 60
Big headache life so only a bit of painting. Layered up the purple cloth. Pretty happy. I feel it's a bit less lively than the others but these ones have some big flat chunks to try work around and hard to tell when it's still so glossy. I think I covered with less of the midtone so it's a bit darker in general. Might need to go back and deepen the shadows (mix blue into the purple?)

pearl crow
#

Streaking day 770: Finished this Shaolin which I've started a looong time ago, and built some more infinity stuff

placid crystal
#

Day 770, still sick, did some highlights, I might be about done, time to go stare at the TV for no apparent reason, and hope to feel better tomorrow

granite geode
#

Day 11: Today I got a ton done. Some final sanding, some assembly, but luckily also some painting. Fun that about 40% of that white dragon will be turned another color but oh well 😅

sweet abyss
#

Day 100: mounting minis

bitter gull
#

Streaking Day 295, striped and cleaned this LoTR second hand Aragorn.

granite geode
#

Day 12: All I did today was some more printing and assembling. Need to find a better gap-filler for my PLA prints, since apoxie is a bit to hard and I need to wear gloves for safety, making the whole process more complicated. Maybe I'll finally get some green stuff.
I am also considering opening my own mini-painting journal on here. My process seems to differ from what I see other people do, and maybe someone can get inspired by what I do. I've tried a ton of artistic hobbies, and they all influenced how I paint my dragons now.
I am starting to get more comfortable in this community, and it feels good to be motivated to keep pushing myself to do a little hobbying every day.

placid crystal
#

@granite geode I use plastic putty from Vallejo

#

Day 771, still really sick, managed some varnishing

granite geode
#

Day 13: finally some more painting was done and of course some obligatory assembly. The wings of my resting dragon are supposed to get my first freehand on them, and I am VERY nervous about it, so today I stuck to the piebald patches. I love how they look on scaley critters.

bitter gull
#

Streaking Day 296, added some texture to boots

wet anchor
#

Day 41: Added some more highlights and cleaned up a few mistakes. I flooded the details on the skull face and some of the chains and so want to watch out for that on future models, but overall I'm happy with the color scheme and had fun painting the fire

Day 18: Today I got to wield a paintbrush again and I painted up the little armadillo (mostly drybrushing lol) and the leathers on the saddle of my piebald dragon. For some reason the highlights just didn't want to pop, so you know what, I guess they just won't. I don't really care. The dragon also got some color to the horns which I will rein in a bit with a wash.
The more exciting part is that I got the sketch of the planned freehand onto the wings. It's watercolor pencil, so anything I won't paint over will come off just fine. Luckily it's all in the highlighted areas of the wings, so I won't have to shade it much if I don't want to.
Also I swear to the gods rescale miniatures do not make their minis with paintability as a priority. Some of the angles I have to paint this thing in are actually ridiculous.

Getting excited to hopefully beat my advent-streak soon.
But today my back needed a break from painting (the doctor said I should quit curling into a ball to paint tiny figurines and that it's a miracle my spine doesn't require surgery to fix... yet.) so I ordered some magnifying glasses to put on and hopefully help with that.
Until those arrive, I shall contend with this model and figuring out how to base him. Today I just gap-filled a bit more and started sanding the filler.

wet anchor
#

might be sacrilegious to say about a dwarf but I think their beards are what are holding these models back, they are huge limiting the range of head movement, and come straight down, which robs the model of a sense of movement. So I swapped the braids of the one in the lower left for instance and now his braided beard is flowing with the pose of the model and looks much more alive (at least to my eye).

I can totally see a brown working for him; about half my painting is me trying to avoid my first color instincts, and the other half is just leaning into it. I'm pretty happy with the scale color so far, it's definitely not what I would have originally thought, but it works, I think. Now I have to figure out what to do with those claws (and clean some more flash from them, those old B2 figures are covered in it, and its so rubbery that it does not come off clean and easy, as I'm sure you've encountered; not that I usually bother)

Day 3 (though first day of posting the streak):

The pattern on the leather on his back came from randomly drawing black and white lines and staining over it a few times. The leather materials are intentionally similar to his skin because I wanted the main contrast to be the metal

The metal has a really thin blue stain to give it a cool color temperature to contrast with the skin. Not sure how noticeable that is.

bitter gull
# noble breach D6 - making great progress in making plinths lol

Hi, last week I made a tool that helped me a lot in getting better results in this task of cutting plinths with more correct angles, that day I only made a comment, but I didn't get to post a picture. It has a 90° angle and I support the side surface that already has a professional cut and I only correct my cut with the sandpaper that I applied to one of the faces, I didn't even glue it, it was only stressed by the meeting of the two pieces of wood that were fixed with screws.

#

Another thing that helps me with this is that I stick white tape around the plinth before cutting and draw a line with the square and initially I rotate the wood to mark the edge of the cut on the 4 sides, also because I don't have an electric saw and this helps me to have a more regular edge.

I splurged and bought a good saw last night - I think part of my problem was my terrible home depot $15 junk saw

Yeah, the clamp for the LCD ribbon on the mobo wide came off when I was removing the old screen, and I figured it had snapped something. No amount of pushing or taping or wiggling the ribbon in made the screen test work, and the clamp wouldn't go back in - it'd just fall down again at first opportunity. bitter gull
#

A friend of mine play Infinity and ask me to paint it.

#

It's not something I would normally paint since I like organic things more, but it's interesting to set a challenge every now and then and I was happy to paint it for him. I'm glad people like what I paint and I'm happy to be able to make this gift.

OK, maybe he has a tail now. But you probably wouldn't even notice it, so well camouflaged.

No, it won't stay that way, but I'm hoping the undercoat will help, and I really want them to release him at some point so I can do him more phoenix style or something that that tail demands.

30! Mostly giving a solid basecoat over places I had tried to base with contrast earlier that looked awful. Water washable oils seem very convenient for mini painting.

#

Ans I don't think there would be anything wrong with just calling it done with just the contrast, it's a fine tabletop ready paintjob. Transparent paints with a zenithal usually look pretty good

primal rock
#

I think the colored zenithal was what was confusing me. I've been priming black and then drybrushing white with various transparency. I think maybe my main issue has been leaving the dark areas too close to a flat black, because contrast paint on black does virtually nothing. Starting with appropriate colors and shifting between them up the value scale is almost obvious in retrospect since I already do that when basecoating.
Thanks for the response 🙂

#

When I hear 'basecoat' I think of models looking totally flat like a plastic action figure, so it made me laugh when I saw your troll so nicely shaded as a basecoat

pearl crow
#

Ah if you're doing zenithals with a drybrush and only 2 colors then yeah it's gonna look a bit more rough. The colored zenithal isn't that big of a deal to be honest, it's more about being able to make the transitions a lot smoother. I imagine you could do it with a drybrush too if you just use enough intermediary tones between the black and white

#

The larger the mini the more those intermediary tones matter

I have a problem when I get to little bits I don't know how to paint where I slow down or leave them unfinished. For example the lanterns on the mask guy, I have little confidence I'll make them look good and little plan so they're not very exciting to work on. What do other people do? Maybe I should focus more on good references and take them slowly
