Been dabbling a little in oils and some of my results are glossy. I can’t find any definitive answers online. What do you use to varnish or seal oils with a matte finish?

I just spray my usual matte mr. hobby topcoat over them about 24hrs after I apply them. Haven't had problems yet.

Just make sure you're spraying thin/light coats and not flooding it.

Because the size (lotr) I might look for a brush on for that reason

That'll pick up your oils and paint coat.

Even if it’s cured?

yep

Lacquer is super destructive to lower layers

It's why I use the spray cans.

I have an old beater airbrush. Maybe an option?

Yeah, that'd work. You just don't want to be running a brush over it because the friction will pick up your oils and paints.
