Yes
There're 2 things to it I think, one is GV being an Unity game which has naturally very janky movement on terrain (GV in particular has no multilayered height terrain, so mountains are partially made with rock assets).
2nd is it was made like that on purpose, because of a particular subgroup of players (myself included, this was my one and only ban), either "perfected their climbing skills" or "abused game mechanics to their advantage" depending on who you ask.
Conclusion is it is very hard to balance fluidity with all gamebreaking edge cases.
Historically at times when climbing mountains and planting flags was a calming pasttime you also had exploiters climbing castle walls and stealing all your steel bars from furnaces, and farming enemy players in their own respawn after climbing into it
Oh, okay, I understand what you mean. Yes, these are indeed important factors to consider. Bug abusers are always around the corner, unfortunately.
Maybe an interruptable animation with a grapple hook, and if you have only light armor in inventory...
No
i agree with the second point. but just because its unity doesnt mean we cant have a nice looking jump animation while jumping over a wicker fence. its still a very static looking jump. plenty of Unity games have great movement and jump anim/phys
People abusing movement is a map design issue anyway
I'd agree, but I also played Planetside 2, where if you had over 80 FPS fully stable, you could climb vertical surfaces by jumping at the right time, and looking at an angle
