surf_hourglass has been (very recently) added to Beta maps (praise to the porters!). Last time I played it was a few years ago on cs:go but I don't remember it having so much dark areas where you can't see no ramps with a normal Brightness, so I had to max-out Brightness. I personally think this is not fun at all and should be mostly avoided. It's still a great map with high brightness, even though my eyes hurt a little 😛

even in css and csgo this map gets realllly dark towards the end so its a map specific thing

#

momentum is slightly darker than what people are used to in those games tho since it defaults to fullscreen windowed where the gamma brightness doesnt work like how they do

#

here's css vs momentum for reference (both on default brightness):

#

i guess the question is at what point we should reject maps for being too dark

at no point if they are old maps, that's what mat_brightness is for

Are you on default brightness?

mat_brightness 1 in mom and mat_monitorgamma 2.6 in css

#

although screenshots ignore gamma settings in css

#

it could be some hdr exposure difference

could something like a minecraft fullbright mod work in this?

this is at the start of the map here with brightness 100% and Print Screen Capture

#

This is towards the end.

Imo particularly tier 1 maps should avoid this. The way I see it we should strive to keep new players the best we can, and surf is already hard enough for them lmao

yeah thats kinda fair
