#Game crashes part-way through first splash screen

What are your specs?
If you're having hardware or driver issues with Momentum, we cannot help you unless you tell us what hardware you are using. Please let us know
- Your graphics card
- Your CPU
- Your operating system, including versions (e.g. Windows 11, not just "Windows")
- If you have checked that your graphics drivers are up to date (if they're not, update them!!)
On Windows you can find this by running dxdiag from the Start Menu, or pressing Windows Key + R, then typing dxdiag and hitting enter.
We cannot help you unless you tell us ALL FOUR of those things!
I have a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, 64GB of DDR4@3200MHz, and an RTX 3070
Should be sufficient for Source I hope!
Windows 10, as well
(22H2)
Yeah seems up to spec. If you haven't, do submit that error report, it provides engine devs with a dump that can give more insight as to why it's crashing.
I have
Is the video driver up to date?
What's odd is that there isn't even an Engine Error
Yes, but I'll check if there are any more updates (I last updated about a month ago)
might be an unhandled error, those will just ungracefully CTD
Is there a maximum resolution or something of that note?
Could be some weird source jank
As far as your video card supports. We do have triple monitor support, but I'm not sure if there can be some weird interaction with nVIDIA Surround
Interesting, I don't have any extended monitor settings enabled in the Nvidia Control Panel, so I don't think that would be it
Oh that's annoying I can't send images in this chat
While an engine dev can access your crash report, can you try running the game with -condebug. It should print a console.log into your game folder (Momentum Mod Playtest/momentum)
try now
Now I can, cheers!
Well, wouldn't you know it, now the game runs? Guess all I needed was a reboot (which is odd, considering it was the only thing I launched when I powered on my PC initally)
Still, thank you for the help!
I do wonder what the crash reports I sent said. Does the game save them locally?
They do, inside bin/<platform>/_sentry
👍 I'll check then!
What file format are these crash dumps? (Or is it literally just the memory content?)
Contents of file: __sentry-breadcrumb1
(Although this might just be my current playsession, directory structure is a bit odd)
it's meant to be read by Sentry
Application performance monitoring for developers & software teams to see errors clearer, solve issues faster & continue learning continuously. Get started at sentry.io.
We use Sentry (https://sentry.io/) for handling crash reporting. It provides us with detailed analysis of exactly what was going on when your game crashed, and is the fastest way for us to determine why it crashed.
Momentum will ask for whether you want to enable Sentry crash dumps on first boot of the game, and if enabled, will send us crash reports containing the path of your game install on disk, very basic hardware stats, and what Steam account you're playing on. Users are completely welcome to opt-out of this, but that will make it much harder and slower for us to respond to any crashes you report to us.
If you want to enable Sentry, go to Steam\steamapps\common\Momentum Mod Playtest\bin\win64\_sentry and delete the user-consent file. Then, when you relaunch the game you'll see a dialogue asking if you want to enable it.
I see, thank you
I think it is windhawk messing with stuff (again). (Not our stuff though)
I also get the bug but I don't get any crash report (Game worked yesterday)
9700X, RTX 5080, Windows 11 Home Single Language 24H2
I'm also getting this bug, game just closes after the splash screen
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (10.0, Build 19045) (19041.vb_release.191206-1406)
AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D, RTX 3080
I've verified the files, restarted my computer, and tried some launch parameters, but nothing I've tried works
