#Please, no more arms!

Just because Meta does it doesn't mean you should. The arms are horribly disturbing and creepy. Please make seeing your own avatar optional. I'll probably have to give up on bigscreen otherwise, I can't stand to look at them.

I can't sit comfortably and use the web browser or anything else in the Oculus home environment anymore either.

There was a good reason nobody implemented arms before. They don't work. Unless you can 100% guarantee that the wrists and elbows are doing what the user is doing, then don't show them.

Another good reason to hide the arms? They get in the way. If you could see right through your own body while trying to watch tv, wouldn't that be convenient?

Maybe somebody somewhere likes arms, but I know a great many who also want them hidden.

The arms are OK in my view. But the movement is still a bit awkward.
Pointing your controllers in other apps would lead to certain movement that are anatomical possible. I feel bigscreen is not there yet with these avatars. This also is clear if you see that the postion of your hands in real live does not match that of VR. This is a immersion breaker and also leads to that the arms are stretched and kind in the way of you watching your surroundings much earlier than anticipated

Having Arms is VR is a good thing. Helps a lot in communicating with others

#

There might be a bit room for improvement in Bigscreen though 😉

I think the new avatars are great though I think maybe there should be an option for you to turn them off, for your view, if they're getting in the way of your experience! haven't personally experienced this and I guess everyone's personal preferences will vary. While some may not like the new arms, I believe many others, like myself, enjoy having them. Although I think in time, any issues you have will likely be fixed with later updates.

If the arms would behave like in real live, they are not in the way , they would even improve the immersion.

I think in time, this will all be addressed.

Yeah I think it would be good to have the option to just stick with the hands or arms as im not a fan of the arms.

It is not possible, in fact, heh.

OK, is would not be 100% accurate, but in the moment I am able to have my wrists and arms in positions in Bigscreen, that are anatomical impossible.
I am no expert 😉 But I also only have my controllers and headset in VRChat and the arm movement is somehow more realistic.
I would think that the movement is restricted by model and interpreted in a different way than here in Bigscreen?

It is a surprisingly complex problem. There are many, many considerations including skeleton fidelity, bone weight amounts, absence of corrective tech, and dealing with a book full of edge cases to accommodate all sorts of impossible situations that are possible to happen in VR. However, as we've said before, launching Avatars 2.0 is only the first step. This is a live system, unlike previous avatars. We have pages of plans that we've come up with, and we're learning more and more the longer y'all play with the system. There will be changes and improvements just as there will be lots of on-going content (if the appetites are there from the users for them, that is)

I never ment it to be perfect. In fact even in other apps it is far from perfect.
And at the moment even the current movement is a step forward since you are able to better communicate, even at this state.
I was just saying , that there is room for improvement and HippoDan should not quit the app 😛
Getting to "real life" movement is impossible without the extra points , I know.
But as you said , first step. I´m sure you will manage to improve. Building a avatar system from scratch cant be easy. 🙂

Aye! I was kind of responding to the thread at large, but yeah, agreed. 🙂

Yes. The other people in the room have no idea if the arms are spot on, or way off. For them it's fine. The only person who knows is you. That's why you shouldn't (have to) see your own virtual arms.

Do your arms disappear for you when your controllers aren’t active?

#

I haven’t played yet using the new avatars

They do. But the timeout seems a bit longer now

people can still "express" themselves and it doesn't force everyone to see their own missmatched arms

We're looking into a bunch of things right now. It will take time.

Never thought I would see someone leave this app over arms on their avatar. To each their own though.

I'm not going anywhere, but they are annoying.

I actually like the arms 🙂

I don't use any of bigscreen's social or online features, and I would honestly like the option to get rid of the avatar entirely and just have my controllers floating in space.

If we have the option to hide other people when they get too close due to cause distraction, it makes sense to hide the avatar in distraction free mode too.
