yes, thats stand ground. when they are in range they should shoort at whatever target, including units and buildings and they do. But on the edge of that range they do not.
If i click manually on the tower, they will attack it without moving, so they are in range. If i click stop, they will stop attack it and will not attack, while attacking anything that is in range

I think there are 2 issues in the game. 1. Stances. The UI only allows 2 different stances. It says "aggressive" and "defensive". The sword is actually defensive stance in every other age of empires game. The shield is actually stand ground. It becomes obvious because in the editor you can use an trigger for army stance. It says "aggressive" "defensive" and "stand ground". This is the weirdest thing in the game ever and i told it since years that the true aggressive stance is not availible in normal game play. The only unit that uses an true aggressive stance in the unit bella. This unit is the only unit, which is on default in aggressive stance and will follow on aggression, no matter what. I am 100% certain that it is this way. Now what you are using in your video is the stand ground stance, which can probably cause at itself already weird behaivor of the units. Stand ground is one of the weirdest stances ever, it was originally used in age of mythology so that villagers can build while beeing attacked. I don't see the purpose in giving military units this stance, maybe in AoM it was used for the scareling (special ulfsark) to build a dock.

The 2. issue is that ranged units do not even detect the target on max range. It is what happened here and it is the same for towers etc. it becomes obvious in a quest, where you use towers on ships to defend. Many times you have to manually right click with the towers selected to actual attack the ships within range. For me it is a detection error.

Yeah I donno why they cant detect over range 38 or 39 automatically

I wonder does is have something to do with the attack range and line of sight range.

What's the line of sight on your guys?

Someone explained that to me years ago on this game
Units can't attack what they don't see
So they attack only in the LoS range

Correct me if I'm wrong

But need to be set to attack

As was mentioned, this also happens to any range type attacks, including towers and forts. Where when they are at the edge of the range, they wont fire, but if you manually attack, they will. Its either manual attack gives them extra range or auto attack is not utilizing the full range of the unit/building
