First of all, I apologize for the self-entitled nature of writing such a long post. 😛 A lot of servers out there aren't very helpful, but you guys been pretty cool, so on behalf of my community, I appreciate your willingness to help us navigate this stressful time. Everything you say to me here will be relayed to the members of my staff team so we have more knowledge going forward. The situation is basically as follows:

I've owned a server since 2008 (15 years) and the 25+ man team staff, my partner, and our players just started getting twice as serious about updating it and adding scripts and hosting events. The server just started getting a lot of players again as a result of months of work recoding the entire server from scratch and we've all been very very excited and highly motivated because we've been seeing our efforts pay off with a high playercount. It's been feeling great to see the server doing well.

All of a sudden, the SA:MP shutdown announcement came.

Now we're no longer listed on the Hosted List or the Internet list. Our playercount instantly dropped to 20 or below, regardless of all the work we put into getting it high. ||The playercount used to be larger and we were able to recruit 20+ new people to the community every day. Now we're lucky to recruit 10.|| People who dismiss this situation with one-liners like "lol SA:MP ain't dead bro" may not really see the full scope of it from a server owner's perspective and I've been struggling to find someone who grasps the gravity of what folks in our position are dealing with who I can talk to or get answers from. I wrote an announcement to my server's community, speaking highly and optimistically of open.mp because the fantastic work you folks are doing is what is keeping us going:

We've been optimistic about open.mp having a server list like the SA:MP client did. Based on the rumours, a lot of people will support open.mp by downloading the client and browse a server list, and thousands of people will be able to continue enjoying this game.

I am nervous about posting this here and suddenly getting shot down, so take into consideration that members/staff from my community may be here reading your responses and we've been feeling a lot of anxiety recently, haha, so whatever you type here in response is going to affect a lot of people by giving them hope or discouraging them. If I had to narrow this down to a specific question, I would like someone to kindly and gently appraise the likelihood of the scenario I've presented to my community. I am tired of the anxiety and stress and not being able to sleep at night. Will there be a player list? If you feel you're not qualified to give me insight into this, it would be heavily, heavily appreciated if you could refer me to someone who can advise us on the situation.

I would advise that you add messages in your server to make sure everyone has added the IP (or url if you have one) to their favourites, so it doesn't get lost when the lists go offline in the interrim

openmp will have internet tab, and it'll have all hosted omp servers iirc, and tbh as samp its nowadays u should invest in youtube to get more players, and as redirectleft said, make them add your server to favourites

and 🤓 👆 its open.mp not OpenMP, OpenMP is a programming language or some other shit.

I appreciate you taking the time to advise us on this. Thank you for taking the time to read the letters and diagram, too. We've been telling people to add our server to their favourites list for 15 years since 2008 and we will continue to do that, so nothing is really changing in that department.

I do understand the impact this have on server owners around in the community and the importance of open.mp going forward. What happened with the hosted tab list, was eventually going to happen, seeing things in a perspective. Forum disappearing was what ended up making me furious back when that happened - some of us spent hours on end reading and posting content in there.

Personally I'd advise you and your community to not let this stop you. As long as it brings joy to you, your team and current members - work for the community and not for the playercount. Yes, it makes things more alive with more players, but that is only one dimension of being successful in my eyes. Then, when future allows, use new client and hopefully see an influx in playercount once again. Also huge respect for being so involved in a project (15 years is quite a feat!).

@idle zealot Thank you for taking the time to write that encouraging response. Your optimism toward open.mp is something I share. Kind folks such as yourself are definitely the light of the world. 🦊 Your kind words have gone a long way toward keeping us motivated and excited for open.mp's client's eventual release.

@amber wyvern Your original comment was uncalled-for, especially if the goal of this Discord Server is to build interest around open.mp. So I'm not sure why you'd actively try to discourage people from doing that unless you are just trying to get a quick serotonin/dopamine rush without thinking about what you're actually saying. I'm sure if the developers who are spending hours working on this project saw what you wrote, they would shake their head. Try to be a little nicer and more positive toward people, brother. 😃

I made this thread because I was excited about open.mp and this Redirect Left guy responds with a message ||(Here:#1151556634754170971 message)|| claiming that open.mp will not be very popular. I messaged him, asking him to remove the message because it was pointlessly damaging/detrimental to open.mp and he responds by saying something like "I refuse to remove it because it's true." so then people started reacting by spelling "WRONG" in the reactions, and he edited his message.

Like, holy cow, guys.
Imagine waking up one day and saying to yourself "I think I will visit the support threads today where people need help!" then visiting a thread and writing a rude "open.mp-is-not-going-to-be-very-popular" post and then when people start to disagree with you calling you "wrong", you back-pedal and edit your message.

Like, come on.

I was referring to YOUR server, not the entire of open.mp. If you are unable to read a sentence, that is on you. I said if YOU were not getting that amount of players before, you are unlikely to suddenly find them because of open.mp.

I deleted it because you were abusing the fact it had an 'edited' tag on it. So you could abuse the fact the original message could not be read, to make it out like you want it to be, which you were doing. Because anyone who saw the original message would know, it was nothing at open.mp, but related specifically to your server.

Every admin knows I believe in open.mp, i was one of the early testers for the server before launch, so why the shit would i speak out against it. Quit making crap up to suit your immature needs.

To be honest, even if he wrote it about open.mp it might be a truth at least in a few percentages. The project is promising and a lot of the people spent a lof of time to make this alive.

After the client release, we'll see in a upcoming years will open.mp raise better than a SAMP or will remain the same.
