Songbirds Are Here! 🐦

Now in Elanthia -- Songbirds -- found in the new Rumor Woods shop, Song Sung Blue.
Each songbird hatches from a unique egg with its own combination of body plumage, wing accents, crest color, tail feathers, and eye color -- over nine million possible appearances. No two birds should look quite the same.

Hatching

Your songbird begins life as a simple egg that hides its colorful inner shell and bird. Simply EXHALE on it to bond, and watch as the shell cracks and your new companion emerges, shaking off fragments and greeting you with its first chirp. The eggshell becomes a tiny whistle adorned with feathers in your bird's colors -- your way to call them back whenever you need.

A Companion with more life!

Songbirds aren't just cosmetic. They're living their best life, and they act like it.

• They get hungry. Feed them foraged seeds or live insects to keep them healthy and vibrant. A well-fed bird is colorful and lively; a neglected one grows thin, patchy, and eventually falls comatose -- though a meal will always bring them back.
• They hunt on their own. A hungry bird will snatch bugs from the ground when it spots them. (Bugs on Parade)
• They react to the world. Your bird notices nearby creatures (and often tries, adorably, to look intimidating), investigates other players, and behaves differently around people it recognizes as friendly versus strangers.
• They worry about you. If you're wounded, your songbird will worry and try to help you, plus more!

Personality

Your songbird has opinions about the people around you. It'll chirp friendly greetings and drop tiny gifts at the feet of people it likes -- and pointedly turn its back and fluff its tail feathers at those it doesn't. It might land briefly on a friend's shoulder to say hello, or tuck its head under its wing to ignore someone it finds disagreeable.

Pet-to-Pet Interactions

Songbirds are social creatures. When two songbirds meet, they might burst into a spontaneous duet, preen each other's feathers, or chase each other in playful aerial spirals. They also interact with other pet types -- riding a fox's tail, landing between a lamb's ears, stealing shiny things from lizards, and engaging in dramatic aerial showdowns with dragonflies.

For Bards

If you're a bard, your songbird is your duet partner. It listens to how you play and matches your style -- singing a mournful accompaniment to somber melodies, chirping rapid-fire alongside fast tempo pieces, or belting out a rousing harmony when you play something inspiring. It'll even try to sing along during loresinging (emphasis on try).

Message Delivery

Write a message on a slip of parchment, and your songbird will carry it across town to another player -- up to three times a day. It'll swoop down to the recipient, chirp brightly, and drop the note at their feet before winging its way back to you.

Shoulder Perch & Verbs

Wear your songbird on your shoulder where it'll nestle in, preen its feathers, and occasionally nod off. You can also PET, RUB, TICKLE, KISS, HUG, and POKE your bird (results vary). And yes -- very rarely, your shoulder companion will leave you a little... surprise. Nothing a good RUB won't fix.

How to Get One

Songbird eggs are now available at Rumor Woods in the shop** Song Sung Blue **.

You have two paths to your feathered best friend:

• Natural Eggs -- Take your chances with nature. Your bird's colors will be a complete surprise -- you never know what combination you'll get until that shell cracks open.
• Magically Encouraged Eggs -- For those with a specific vision in mind, these eggs have been coaxed into producing a particular set of colors. Pick your palette and hatch with confidence.

1. Are these auction only or will they be for sale for everyone? Sounds like you can just buy eggs right?
2. Pricing, should we expect typical pet pricing for these or something affordable to the masses?

2. The pricing will be similiar to other pets sold in Ewe Vixen but buying a color coordinated songbird will be more costly.

My random songbird is beautiful The plumage of the tiny songbird is cerulean blue across his breast and back, the delicate feathers catching the light as he moves. His delicately speckled wings are tucked neatly at his sides, each feather layered with care, hinting at a graceful span when unfurled for flight. No, that is the only way to pre-determine your birds colors and remove the risk, OR get more than 1 with the same look.

There are many color combinations possible and many can look quite gaudy or understated even.

There will likely never be an alteration service for them, unless it was extremely rare or expensive since that is the cost difference.

I absolutely adore it! I admit, if alterations ever became available I'd probably get his main body color changed to a crimson or scarlet as those are Jisandra's signature colors, but magenta is still incredibly fun. And literally everything else is perfect. Golden amber crest is gorgeous, and awesome that he has golden amber eyes too, that's beautiful

Just troubleshooting some stuff with Casil, for some reason the songbird is intercepting "wave" when I try to wave at things other than the bird, or when I try to wave other things at something and the songbird is summoned
(E.g. I was trying to use my honey jar, which collects honey using WAVE JAR AT ALVEARY, and get songbird messaging instead... if I WAVE JAR AT DELINDRA while the songbird is summoned, my jar chirps a friendly greeting to Delindra, which is funny because it's a chicken jar, but not working as intended, I am pretty sure)

So, I can't seem to get the SHOW to work I can't SHOW the bird to anyone, also when someone Looked at me, they could see the bird on me, but I had to resummon it to remove it or interact with it, so it wasn't REALLY there.

...so I finally got it to work by holding my zoetic quill in my hand while buying. Didn't work with the songbird whistle but that's a work-around at least. It really should work for songbird and teadragon owners.

Unless there's been an update I'm not aware of, there's no need to permify a cricket box. If you leave the box open while wearing it, they will multiply to replenish themselves. If you really do run out, you can buy another and empty the crickets from the new box into your old one. I have a lizard and can't remember the last time I've needed a refill.

the Bugs on Parade bugs are, as you say, not actual bugs but replicas (paper or gem), so you can't FEED it to the songbirds.

Whether or not it has ambient messages where it will find and eat an insect in the room from Bugs on Parade, I'm not sure without digging around in all of Ivry's scripts to look for it ;)

When in a room - and hungry - a room that has Bugs on Parade bugs about - they can AND will sometimes "eat" one themselves, lowering their hunger level some but not enough to survive long term. It's messaging you will see when they find a bug and eat it - with the proper bug it found. Hope that helps.

Hand feeding for now is seeds and crickets. More choices are coming in a future release.

Now that I'm carrying around a cricket box for my songbird... would it be possible to install a toggle on the cricket boxes to eliminate the ambient? It seems to chirp quite a bit

Soooo I went to kiss a person, and typed KISS (PERSON) and it kissed my songbird instead... and then I dismissed the songbird and the person went to kiss me, and instead it showed the person as also trying to kiss my songbird (event hough the songbird was dismissed and not in the room anymore). I bugitem'ed the first one, but I couldn't bugitem the second one because... the songbird wasn't there to bugitem

Same thing happened with hug, after dismissing the songbird...

If songbirds need a cricket box, I will never have a songbird. I do not keep boxes of live insects on my characters. I got a shade-skink on a character because I'd rather feed it my blood than deal with feeding a pet live bugs (even in a text-based game). LOL

But a toggle for that annoying noise when the box is open so the crickets do not die would be good.

They do love those and forageable, so mostly free.

It was very hard not to just keep hatching them in development. I wanted ALL the songbirds.

man, they should be able to change colors and such, like with the Moth Cloaks... you can play with the colors as much as you want, completely randomize them in different patterns, if you find one you like you can save it to a slot

I would've purchased the 250k bird if it cycled colors. That's my favorite aspects of the yierka mount.

I have two songbirds, and one I purchased the other was found. The one purchased when I called the songbird, the whistle can not be worn. The other one the whistle is worn on the belt. Is there a difference between the found eggs vs purchased eggs?
