#[Official] New Player Tutorial
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Wow this is huge!!!
If you tried this out last year during the test phase ... it is the same for the most part (minus the bugs, obviously!)
Kudos on getting this released, it must feel great. I know it's been years in the making (in various forms).
Super excited to see this rolled in and live!
I was planning on releasing yesterday but a migraine sidelined me (all the weather yo-yoing has taken me out so much this year!) And I couldn't do it this weekend due to Easter. I didn't want to release tomorrow for obvious reasons. lol.
Migraines are the worst. Glad you're better.
Glad to see this released! Running through it again to prepare for a video.
I noticed a reference to "room in the story window", but it's actually the "room in the room window". Story window is the window we're interacting in and room window is the one opened on top of story.
Sulliver claps in pleasure. "You've got a great voice on you! But there's more to life than speaking. You also have to have a good eye. Why don't you take a LOOK around? You can even LOOK AT anything around here you find interesting -- like me!"
Type LOOK to see the room you are in. (You can also see the room in the story window at the top of the screen.)
During the inventory section, I see "wink" is appearing on a new line by itself, not connected to the text before it.
Sulliver grins. "You're getting the hang of this! I never forget to put things in MY cloak. Otherwise, I might put it in some cloak on a bench or the ground by mistake! Remember that," he tells you with a
wink.
During the bandit section, the instructions indicate to type incant arcane blast (1700) at. Incant arcane blast won't work, but incant 1700 would.
Sulliver pats you on the shoulder. "It's just a cut, you'll be fine. Now's your chance, INCANT Arcane Blast (1700) at the outlaw!"
Type INCANT Arcane Blast (1700) at.
For the herb section, the instructions are Purchase some ambrominas leaf. It might be helpful to improve the "Go ahead and buy some." by changing it to "go ahead and ORDER, then BUY some.
Sulliver assesses your wound with a keen eye. "A cut to your hand, looks rather minor - that calls for ambrominas leaf. Go ahead and buy some."
Purchase some ambrominas leaf.
I broke it on step 14 in chapter 2. I used the urchin to get to the teller, then deposit all, then walked outside and nothing happened. I then went back in, withdraw 100 coins, and did a deposit 100 silver instead, then went out. Still nothing. Going to restart it and attempt to deposit 100 instead of deposit all.
Edit: Oof, it won't let me restart it. Says I'm already on the tutorial, just permanently stuck on step 14 chapter 2.
Second Edit: Started tutorial on a different character and it hangs up in the same spot. Step 14, chapter 2.

You are currently on step 14 in chapter 2.
Deposit your coins at the bank and then meet Sully outside.
Those at least sound like easy fixes in the messaging!
If you got stuck on Chapter 2, Step 14 of the new Sulliver's Travels Tutorial (where you go to the bank to deposit your coins and meet Sully outside), you should be able to progress now.
Doing anything at all with your character (LOOK, etc.) should automagically fix you, though you will have to go back to the bank and then go out from there to re-trigger the next step.
If you had gotten to the Alley part before this message and decayed - that was not supposed to happen and you can ASSIST to get any Death's Sting removed and get your deed back.
Resuming the tutorial, not stuck anymore!
There's still a name mismatch between the fogger and the one who tries to hold your hand during the first bandit encounter outside the bank. Freida vs Frieda. Later on in the quest, other parts of the dialog has Frieda, so might just have to fix the first fogger line.
The fog quickly dissipates to reveal Freida.
Frieda tried to hold your hand, but your group status is closed.
After Sulliver explains skinning, there's a sentence that's missing punctuation.
"There's a little spot in town close to my heart I want to show you
Everything else went great, thank you!
Congratulations! You have just finished the tutorial - "Sulliver's Travels"!
- I've probably added about 4-5 bugs on this.
- Fun fact, one of the bugs was fixed and I saw it corrected on another character
- All in all I think it's great, but I do have a LOT of generalized suggestions...
Suggestions:
- Long time players know that level 0 to 1 is solved by visiting places. One of the best things you can do is Just include this as part of the tour guide.
- The gap between levels is long, and I'd definitely recommend some smaller breaks in between
My rough idea (again just a suggestion)
- Level 0, Sullivan takes you around town (everywhere)
- Level 1, Sullivan takes you to an inn, talking about training (and OOC discussion of goals).
- Level 1, After you check out and meet at the inn, you get attacked (like before)
- Level 1, Sullivan says you need to get stronger and gives some suggestions (jobs, or hunting), suggests you see him at level 2
- Level 2, Sullivan tells you some stuff (tbd, not sure what) - repeats suggestions to get stronger, see him at level 3
- Level 3, Sullivan talks about societies existing and mentions you might be able to join one, Still need to be stronger - see him at lvl 4
- Level 4, Same as usual - but first you meet Sullivan and he says he found out where it was stolen from -> directs you to the location.
- Level 4, IF somehow you could incorporate the recovery request into the adventurer's guild - that would be absolutely amazing.
Update: I just added 3 more bugs, and I'm continuing to receive this message:
Type ACCEPT and press ENTER to start your journey with Sulliver's help, or type DECLINE and press ENTER if you feel ready to begin your adventures on your own.
Had a character named Sebein get stuck on step 6 in chapter 3, with Sully just not showing up at Silverwood Manor. Not really sure how, as I tried to reproduce and had no trouble!
There is an intermittent bug like this that I have been unable to reproduce that I am going to be working on debugging this weekend. Is this your actual character or someone else? Likely I can fix them so it'll advance but I really need to know what happened before to try to sus out what exactly is causing this.
It, at the very least, seems extremely rare to happen and happens at different steps completely.
I believe it was a new new player. They're currently chatting in help.
Since the last step I’ve been leveling in the catacombs and then once I hit level 4 I went to the manor and sully wouldn’t show up. I can’t think of anything of note that really happened besides that. Only thing besides fighting I did last night was get some spells from a mage and songs from a bard. Hopefully this helps!
I should be able to have a look at you either tonight or tomorrow - I'll keep an eye out for you! I should be able to auto-magically fix you from afar if there is a problem.
Thank you!
Hopefully you got all the bugs I reported... I know I reported a few of them under "Sullivan" quest instead of "Sulliver"... because I can't read apparently
An intermittent bug with the Sulliver's Travels tutorial has been squashed. In rare instances if you were a bit too eager on certain steps and repeated the command before Sulliver was ready, you could accidentally skip a step and end up stalling the tutorial progress depending on which step was skipped. This should no longer happen, though if you are currently stuck I will need to fix you myself. I am already aware of one player this affected, though if you are affected please feel fre to ASSIST or mention your character name in the tutorial forum thread so I can keep an eye out for you.
You are currently on step 2 in chapter 4.
Find the bandit hideout outside the by exploring and recover Sully's heirloom!```
Step 2 of chapter 4 displays a bit wonky.
Thanks - can you BUG that if you haven't already? I assume something is happening where that info isn't getting filled for that section.
this whole thing is pretty wonky, here -- i also used the click menu to put it in at one point (the first time it worked), and it didn't seem to recognize that.
The burly giantman Sulliver arrives.
Sulliver shakes his head, "You should probably deposit all of it to be safe!"
Type DEPOSIT 548.

I started the game auto assign and got OHE, but when I levelled to 1 I grabbed/switched to brawling.
Put me into an interesting condition where it had me gird, which picked out my broadsword by default, then told me to jab.
The burly giantman Sulliver arrives.
You arrive to find Sulliver waiting, arms akimbo. He looks you over with an appraising eye. "I can see by your demeanor that you're the adventuring type," he says. "It's wise to be ready to take up arms! Especially with all the bandits bothering us lately. Let's see how handy you are with your weapon!"
Type GIRD to ready your weapon.
>gird
You remove a broadsword from in your leather backpack.
You sling a reinforced shield off from over your shoulder.
>
Sulliver nods with approval. "Now let's see you SHEATHE it."
Type SHEATHE to put your weapon away.
>sheath
You put a broadsword in your leather backpack.
>
Sulliver nods in approval. "You can also STOW anything you're holding and want to put away quickly. Now let's go, there's more to show you!"
A halfling marauder quickly approaches!
...
"Another bandit!" Sulliver cries. "We'll have to fight him off. Time to see if you're quick on your feet. Ready your weapon, like you just showed me!"
GIRD to ready your weapon.
>gird
You remove a broadsword from in your leather backpack.
You are already holding a reinforced shield.
>
"Good work," Sulliver says. "Now, check your STANCE before he attacks; you will want to be DEFENSIVE to best block his first blow."
Type STANCE DEFENSIVE.
>stance def
You are now in a defensive stance.
...
Sulliver rubs his hands as he moves behind you for protection. "he's winded," Sully tells you. "Time to take him out! First, you'll need to make sure you're in STANCE OFFENSIVE."
Type STANCE OFFENSIVE.
>
A halfling marauder swings a longsword at you!
...
Sulliver pats you on the shoulder. "It's just a cut, you'll be fine. Now's your chance, JAB the marauder!"
Type JAB.
