#[Ebon Gate 2025] Reunion Vault - The Spidersilk Apothecary

There have been bug reports for starflowers, snowdropses, etc for flowers from foraged item props. The foraged item props do not make the forageable marked as plural. If you have any purportedly plural flowers from foraged item props, they are not going to pluralize properly because they are marked as singular. If you have a "starflower" or "snowdrop" singular they will pluralize okay.
Is that a limitation on the foraged item prop script, or is that just how the foraged item props that created those items were set up individually?
I can certainly look into it. It wasn't something that was on my radar at the time of creation. Le me make a note.
Thank you both!
So, was trying to help someone today and we were finding some higher end gems (orb/chrism value) do not inspect as made of gemstone - and therefore will not work in the spider box. is this intentional?
You determine that you could not wear the aetherstone.```
^ as well as uncut emeralds
```You carefully inspect your black nightstone.
You determine that you could not wear the nightstone.
It looks like this item has been mainly crafted out of gemstone, a rare gemstone.```
is it intentional that the gemstone doesn't inspect that way? Its probably old enough to have not been hit with modernization. I'd bug the gemstone to say it doesn't inspect as one, but this isn't an Apothecary bug.
thanks, that was my suggestion as well!
And we can't just update it, or none of the existing gems would match and they would stop stacking and being recognized the same and stuff
It would be the uncut disaster all over again
If you put it in a gem caboodle, does it come out inspecting like gemstone
I may have missed the uncut disaster...
Oh! This should work. I think I force creation to inspect as gemstone.
But it won't take orbs... I don't think.
Or chrisms... and I think it might wipe them
Uncut gems used to be an uncut//emerald and stuff with a blank adjective, which the parser always targets first because blank is first alphabetically. They were updated to an/uncut/emerald but an uncut//emerald and an/uncut/emerald don't match
yeah, it gives you this warning which is on the wiki
It is worth noting that once you put a gem within the Caboodle it will no longer function as a valid gem for Magic Item Recharging, Chrism Gem Creation, or for use with the Alchemy system.
Yea, I thought so.
Prior to them being "an/uncut/noun" or "an uncut//noun" they (and several other gems that had various adjectives added to them in at the same time) they were "a(n) noun". Which...I know about because I'm the player that made A) the request that an adjective be added so the middle 15-less gems wouldn't override >get noun, and B) made the list of extant gems that needed an adjective for that to happen.
TL;DR
Vyrshkana: uncut gems are evil!
the crafty masses: concur
tiny (other not Vyrshkana) gnome with bob haircut: no capes!
Vanah: saves us from the uncut gems
the crafty masses: rejoice
I don't think I was on staff yet at the time of the fix, but have handled many "my diamonds are broken" assists and bug reports
I must have a decades old stash of these or something, seems like I have a lot of blank adjective emeralds and diamonds
found the hoarder
points broadly at the playerbase
I have a sack full of those… not sure if they made the transfer though
a sack full of hoarders? sounds about right
Elanthia is a simulation. We're all really just at the bottom of Vyrshkana's locker. GSIV is just game where a gnome collects stuff in a giant locker and we built Elanthia out of the stray bits and bobs. (edit: laeli needs coffee cause cannot type)
Oh my god this is why we all hoard stuff. The great gnome god scurrying back and forth with newly obtained items created us. It's in our nature. I can't be blamed for teetering near item limit anymore.
For reference purposes, what year was the null adjective diamond/emerald change made?
I can almost definitively say it was sometime between summer of '06 and end of '07.
probably around winter of '06-'07
Hm, ok. My gem stash was built 2016-2021. Wonder how I ended up with them then. 🤷
Edit: If I had to guess, gems harvested from the east are technically different profiles on the backend or something, idk.
I thought I remember some later than that, so maybe not everywhere got the memo?
Just so i follow... the Apothecary box will not accept gemstones that dont identify as gemstones even though they are gemstones which right now includes uncut diamonds and emeralds as well as a lot of older gems but its a gem issue not an Apothecary box issue?
I was excited to use the box on my chrism gems but looks like thats not going to work with 80% of my hoarded gems.
The Apothecary box works based on the target jtem's material setting. This setting was created in like...2005? So items released before that, including a lot of gems, don't actually inspect as made out of gemstone, or stone, or whatever else treasure could be
And we can't just blanket state "all gemstones are made of gemstone!" Because there are other treasure drops like shells and rocks and ambergris and metal and stuff that isn't made of gemstone
I mean i follow. But I guess i just need to know if I just need to move on from my idea as this issue is never going to be resolved?
If we change the system so all new gems do inspect as gemstones, not all systems will stack old ones and new ones, which causes its own set of issues. There's not an easy blanket fix
uncut diamonds, uncut emeralds, pearls, white-point star diamonds, thunderstones, ect ect. I find more not-gemstone gemstones then ones that identify as gemstones. How many systems work on the targets item material setting?
I can't say "never" because Thandiwe is resourceful, but it does not currently work, no. There are other gem altering items such as gem cutters and lapidary boxes that do work on treasure gems specifically and not a broader category of material
so i should move on to use a different item that will affect all gems and stick the Apothacary box back in the locker.
Friends, Elanthians, Apotheycarites... it has come to my attention that we are not allowed to put 'handle' on a metal spider (as in for fork/knives/spoon alters). I am here to plead our case. It would reduce the need for multiple alters to complete a set and many apothecary owners (all except maybe Trallihn) would never, ever use a handle on a necklace for example. We are responsible, adult apothecary caretakers. And if Trallihn (yes I am taking his name in total vain) is silly enough to put a handle on a necklace, he might need it! He's all thumbs and could use a dangling back handle to clasp the thing. So, this is my official plea for a reconsideration of such a horrific, limiting, heartbreaking rule! Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
Or, perhaps, we could get spiders intended just for things that CAN have handles? Like, forks/spoons/knives/teaspoons? Even some cooking utensils! One metal spider alter could let us do metal flatware and one wood spider could do wood flatware. Chopsticks (which should not have handles anyhow!) can be done now with a wood spider if you alter it to paint or add an inlay or stud them with gems.
Without tipping my hand too much, remember that the Apothecary was announced as being on the five year plan.
Yes, this is why I'm making suggestion!
