#[Duskruin] Aggro Culture

Have you ever wondered what happens to the bloodied weapons, shields, and armor removed from your fallen opponents in the Duskruin Arena? Have you screamed in delight as you land a hit so bloody your opponent slams to the floor, dead as a salmon bear snack? What about having an uncontrollable urge to make that mangy bandit marauder even more dead, only to think it's a little bit late for that? Have you stamped in angry annoyance as you swing and make a clean miss?

...You probably get the idea, but if these sound familiar you might want to swing by Aggro Culture to browse and add a weapon to your bandolier that will help channel those feelings into something more useful.

wintry bridge
#

Angry weapons! I want to know more!

gray basin
#

i don’t feel aggro, but i want to

jade leaf
#

My warrior needs this on her claid. So tiny, but so ragey.

unreal kraken
#

These weapons will help us beat on something that's already dead? Scripted so I yell "pickpocketing flag!" as I attack?

rare oyster
#

Aggressive kombucha (or sourdough).

inner leaf
#

I can't wait to hear the loresong on these...

inner leaf
#

I tried to set him up for just that!

mental surge
#

I'm curious what these actually do. I'd hope if its just messaging that it would be a flourish option.

cloud quiver
#

Getting really warm! ```If you are fully trained and in an aggressive stance, the aggro weapon will earn aggression based on combat actions. Missing a target, getting injured, scoring a bloody hit, making a kill, or mutilating a corpse are all actions that will feed into your anger and help fill the weapon with aggression. The exact amount is a mystery but is based on the creature's level -- too low level or too high level and you'll naturally feel unchallenged by the creature, reducing or eliminating entirely the amount of aggression you earn.

Aggression gradually fades, quicker at higher levels of aggression, if you fail to make any aggression-earning combat activities.```

#

I'm hopeful I'll have the full wiki page up tomorrow sometime.

#

But happy to share a few more teasers!

inner leaf
cloud quiver
#

We're talking you just put that mangy bandy down... for good, but you've not yet forgotten that it made you choke blood for what seemed like 30 seconds or more... so you Perhaps influenced by an aggressively large runestaff, you clench down on it, unable to keep your aggression in check. Losing control, you unleash a furious display on a mangy bandy! What little was left of the corpse after a gory battle gets pummeled, with bits of a bandit splattering across everything in the vicinity. When nothing but a savage mess remains, you feel further emboldened by the vicious display!

inner leaf

👀

And I thought Luxie dancing around the dead corpse in the Arena was ... out there.

#

This needs to be a flourish!

cloud quiver
#

More questions!

mental surge
#

I mean, is it just flavor or are there mechanical benefits to aggression?

inner leaf
inner leaf
cloud quiver
#

The blacksmith is more altruistic than that, but it does take a little time.

mental surge
#

sigh Love the flavor as an Eorgina follower but not giving up blink flares for it.

inner leaf
#

That's the beginning of the Aggro Flourish Request thread, right there.

cloud quiver
#

Natural synergy, for sure.

mental surge
#

If aggro weapons fueled the rage AS bonus I'd certainly consider it then

dry quail
#

Can we still loot/skin after bashing a corpse?

#

Do we need a bless to bash dead undead?

cloud quiver
#

Good questions! At the moment there are no specific types excluded; somehow the blacksmith's special alloy fortifies even things like runestaves and bows. However, that doesn't mean all types will be available in the shop at first. You can still loot/skin after bashing a corpse, and it doesn't need to be blessed to bash it, although.... 🤔

I quickly put together info for Tier 1: https://gswiki.play.net/Aggro_Weapon

rare oyster
#

This is feeling like rage armor flourish for weapons (off to read).

cloud quiver
#

I'll need to fight more with MediaWiki a little later/tomorrow.

mental surge
#

Do these abilities have a CD?

cloud quiver
#

No cooldown, but there is a reasonable limit to how much you can earn from each creature.

wintry bridge
#

Oh wow okay so these things are elaborate

cloud quiver
#

Added some messaging to the page for how prod keeps you attuned to the ebb and flow of your aggression.

cloud quiver
wintry bridge
#

So the short version is you can build up aggression by doing a bunch of stuff including crushing corpses to bits, and then you can spend aggression for AS/CS buffs, AOE slows, and large one shot AS/CS buffs

#

And there’s actually a wrayth UI window to tell you how much aggression you have

cloud quiver
#

Yep! And that's just off the shelf.

wintry bridge
#

It says that if you are dual wielding aggro weapons your aggro will divide between them so presumably they each have their own pool

cloud quiver
#

Correct, each weapon has a pool of aggression that will accumulate.

#

But you won't earn 2x the aggression for the same combat activity

#

Only your anger fuels these!

#

I don't know about you, but I'm even more angry with popped muscles.

#

No, but you need to be proficient with the weapon type so you're not passively gaining aggro for things like spell attacks.

#

For example, wearing UCS gloves/boots but you don't know how to do that. And for mages, the standard runestaff training approach applies.

rare oyster
cloud quiver
#

Other than the messaging changes depending on the verb, no. But some rooms trap growl, unfortunately.

wintry bridge
#

Does whacking a body prevent you from looting/skinning

cloud quiver
mental surge
#

I assume you can't be trained in brawling, wearing aggro gloves, but using a blunt weapon you're also trained in to earn aggro for the gloves and use the gloves to pump up your AS for your blunt weapon or other held weapon?

Basically you can't use aggro gloves to boost the AS of a different weapon you're holding

cloud quiver
#

You can, but in that scenario it'll take longer across the weapons to accumulate enough to to make it worth it

#

And you can't double up the same ability (use Frenzy from two different weapons for twice the benefits)

mental surge
#

I mean like my held weapon doesn't have the aggro script perio.d

cloud quiver
#

Gotcha, no for UCS specifically you need to be doing unarmed combat.

#

(Have empty hands)

next brook
#

gloves and boots? I need a nice set for UCS

#

Maybe gloves paired with the new twisted kicks

mental surge
#

Aggro must be sort of tough to earn, definitely not quick enough to maintain a constant +20AS/+12CS

next brook
#

Assuming UCS bonus goes to UAF and not MM?
(ill take 20 MM > 50 UAF)

sage harness
#

Yeah I think most of this definitely depends on how quick aggression builds and any other CDs for things, etc.

potent lagoon
#

I may need to revisit the angry wizard and see if this can cohabitate with his sigil stuff

#

how angy do you get when you miss volley?

next brook
#

Also, Too High Level? What does that effect? Can't uphunt and stay aggressive?

gray basin
#

so fo real real you gonna let us add this via flourish or something riggggghhhttt? 🙏

stuck hornet
#

The stance based component makes me think a warding caster is not really the target demographic

gray basin
#

yeah it’s probably a script add, but ya know what i mean 😁

inner leaf
#

In order to use these weapons effectively, you must be at least 1x trained in each weapon's corresponding skill.

And what about runesticks?

cloud quiver
#

2x THW training! 🤪

inner leaf
#

No way, are you kidding me?! You must be!

cloud quiver
#

Haha yeah, as I mentioned above, the standard magical skills training. I believe it’s 8x skills/spells per training.

inner leaf
#

... goes to calculate her poor, expensive magic skiills.

cloud quiver
#

I think aggro is reasonable to earn. Some will be pretty easy to determine, such as how much for making a kill. It is critical weighting for Final Straw, and it is a full script, not a Flourish.

#

For the most part it trails off over and under hunting given the nature of how thematic and balanced that would be. Swinging away at a 10+ creature is going to make you scared, not angry! But naturally you’d also miss a lot too….

inner leaf
#

Whew, ok, magic training looks OK. It's back on the consideration block!

wintry bridge
#

Do you get both the AS and CS boost when activated?

inner leaf
#

Now, if ONLY my Holy Sheath would hold more than 1 little runestick!

cloud token
#

Do we get CS boosts even if using a melee weapon? This would be a really solid option for bards if so.

cloud quiver
#

Yep, both abilities always give both the attack and acuity bonus.

wintry bridge
#

Wait it’s punk rock

inner leaf
cloud token
#

Really cool mechanical design. It very much reminds me of Energy Weapons, which I like a lot, except that you get AS and CS instead of stronger flares by storing and releasing your charged resource.

(I will say that my brain can't handle the fact that this script can go on runestaves, though, but that's my problem. 😂)

grand yew
#

Curious to see what the T4 does. Sort of clear what T2 and T3 will do based on the skills from the wiki

cloud quiver
#

Heh, don’t you worry about ascension hunting!

cloud quiver
#

It's not the Confused effect (where they also may stumble and attack wildly). They slow down because they're bewildered and stare blankly at your unexpected burst of anger. It is subject to a SMR. I was able to get the rest of the tiers on the wiki, need to polish it up still though.

wintry bridge
#

thanks for getting all the info up there!

gray basin
#

wowza

cloud quiver
#

Of course, sorry for the drawn out teasers!

wintry bridge
#

okay very quick summary

* Get aggression points by missing, getting hit, scoring a bloody hit, getting a kill, or mutilating a corpse (special weapon ability that gives RT, does not destroy loot). Spend aggression points to activate abilities -- the more points you have, the better the benefits!
* T1: Frenzy - +AS/+CS for 30 sec (up to +20/+12)
* T1: Furor Focus - AOE SMR slow
* T1: Final Straw - +50 AS/+30 CS and +20 CER for ONE HIT
* T2: Bloodlust - double aggression earned for a duration
* T2: Bloodbath - Final Straw for ONE AOE (five targets)
* T3: Bulwark - +DS/+TD for 30 sec (up to +20/+12)
* T3: Serenity - store aggression to get back later
* T4: Blood Focus - passive +AS/+CS based on your aggression level (up to +10/+6)```
#

if you activated frenzy and final straw you would have +70 AS and +20 CER for one attack

unreal kraken
#

It says you must be 1x in a weapon, percentage based on training. If you're 2x do you get 200% aggro?

cloud quiver
#

No, you should be fully trained for the weapon, so for example a Wizard would only be able to get 50% for an edged weapon. Fully train means you get the full amount for the combat action.

unreal kraken
#

In order to use these weapons effectively, you must be at least 1x trained in each weapon's corresponding skill. so does this mean if you're not 1x in a weapon you can't accumulate aggro?

cloud quiver
#

I agree about the analyze and confuse, will adjust that.

#

You can accumulate aggro, it'll just be adjusted to the percentage of your proficiency in the weapon.

unreal kraken
#

Also, does it account for enhancives, ascension for weapon training?

cloud quiver
#

Yes, it should.

worthy perch
#

is the CER bonus from Final Straw applicable to CS based warding spells? Or just melee, ranged and magic bolts?

cloud quiver
#

Just the standard weighting, no bonus to spells unaffected by standard CER weighting.

unreal kraken
#

Any word on pricing or if adds available through HESS?

wintry bridge

sorry, is it crit weighting or damage weighting?

velvet mirage

Are you able to put these on test? The make or break is going to be aggression accumulation IMO

The blacksmith is ummm… blunt instrument, does not count well. It’s Crit Weighting, I’ll add that to the wiki. I’m not sure about Test, I think that would be nice. I’ll need to ask. Only 45 aggression can be stored and it fades, I can put some details about the rate to help.

potent lagoon

I think DR is mirrored there and you can access the grounds during the event, but I don't know what is actually there vs not active on live.

Bingo!

wintry bridge

yeah I was a little unclear about that too, I wrote "one aoe" in the summary but I wasn't actually sure

cloud quiver

You guys are sharp, for Bloodbath it's up to 5 targets in an AOE attack. The analyze could be clearer for that.

This is like a Retser script (complimentary)

I really, really hope this is available to add through HESS...it will immediately replace my current script add choice!

sage harness
#

I do just want to say, i appreciate we're trying something besides another script damage flare (which i do love, for the record). I don't know how the market will end up valuing these (i think any new script is a tough sale regardless these days, and especially so if it's even minimal active management), and the aggro gen will certainly be a big factor here we need to know really. But it's still nice to see something different, and also that kinda favors more towards larger/slower weapons (whereas the flarestone bonanza has disproportionately buffed smaller/faster ones by comparison to unga bunga smash weapons)

This has thrown a potential wrench into my plans, I thought I was pretty set on going parasite for my warpath, but this script sounds pretty fun!

I think it's still being determined, but hopefully soon. Maybe I can help delay by sharing something I forgot to mention - you should mutilate creatures before skinning them if you want, otherwise you might find that Skinned and heavily injured from the fight, the exposed innards and disgusting mess of the a triton fanatic weaken your desire to mutilate it further.

You can still smash and then skin.

cloud quiver

If there is a weapon in the context of the attack and it's an aggro weapon it will earn it, so flares and flourish should. But if there's another weapon used as part of the attack that isn't one, it will not. For other types of attacks like spells or CMANs, yes, but restricted to all the things discussed (need to be trained, valid equipped weapon, UCS constraints, divided equally as opposed to doubling up, stance, creature limits, etc.).

So, you get a passive AS boost from:

* T4: Blood Focus - passive +AS/+CS based on your aggression level (up to +10/+6)

And it looks like using:

* T1: Frenzy - +AS/+CS for 30 sec (up to +20/+12)

Takes away your "aggression" which reduces the passive, until you kill more things?

#

I will say the aggression is earned rather easily, at least in the duskruin arena. I don't think there will be an issue with charges.

some thoughts on the window -

  • I love it
  • any chance we could have the actual number there as well, maybe at the bottom?
  • It's cool when the available skills show up, wondering how it feels to have them all there all the time, and light up as they come available (vs disappearing altogether)
#

gaining aggro feels pretty easy, at least in hinterwilds

cloud quiver
supple oasis
#

I'm sure also as I get more comfortable using them I wont need it as much.. my first thought is that in reality I will just use skills when I get to 45, maybe if the last dot/row is inverted when full? Something to mimic like a blinking full meter.. so that visually I know I am at 45 and can fire something off -- there is the yellow messaging that pops up I know, but I think a visual cue in the window for full aggro would be perfect

velvet mirage

Has the price been listed somewhere?

I think this is actually decent competition to the surita sigil combo.

supple oasis

velvet mirage

It's potentially a persistent +18 CS vs the double cast of the sigil.

potent lagoon

velvet mirage

The double cast is wasted if it dies in 1.

I should stop talking about this, it's going to make it more expensive.

I think it's going to be different feelings based on the weapon type.. like twohanded sword is aggro hand over fist (benefitting from those "bloody hits", but UCS took a little longer to get there.

I'd have to keep playing to see what the optimal rotation is, I imagine it's something like, double aggro, final straw, then turn on the AS/DS. And always finish the hunt with 45 to save up. But honestly I think even T2 might be a decent place to take these, depending on pricing.

I think Alastir grabbed one, but I put a "mossbark bow" under the IMTC bench. I'll need to check a little closer after morning work meetings, but Thrash should be okay. It's possible you were maxed out for that creature or based on the creature details the bloody hits just weren't enough. Kind of hoping it'll be interesting determine the earning curves, but in addition to the level their max blood is a factor as well. With golems it could be similar, but will definitely check. I do think there might need to be a little tweaking on the curve depending on the weapon type, for example taking a hit factors in your armor's type not just how much blood you lose.

You are fully trained to channel all of your combat aggression into the runestaff.

476 aggression has been channeled into the runestaff, and 184 has been harnessed to activate abilities.

The runestaff is a rune staff that requires skill in twohanded weapons to use effectively.

It looks like this item has been mainly crafted out of carmiln, an uncommon wood.```

I do think limiting the weapons to half value for warpures is a shame, they probably would love a consistent AS boost

Bloodlust at 45 aggro is only lasting 30 seconds instead of 75 like the wiki says

You find it difficult to control the energy built up in a twisting vultite morning star after several heated battles!

I assume this is the maxed aggro message. I click bloodlust afterwards and see all my aggro drain from the window but the timer in the Buffs shows 30 second Aggro Weapon Bloodlust

BTW what is the level range to be able to earn aggression? Is it 5 levels above and below? 10?

Ok, showing full 75 sec now ty

I'm not really having any trouble earning aggro, especially if you pop a bloodlust ASAP.

I'd basically just cycle between bloodlust and frenzy over and over

Going to be heavily dependent on ability to kill fast though. I'd want to dual wield with a blink weapon in 1 hand and this weapon in the main hand.

I am having trouble past round 40 in swarm though but standard arena and standard mobs shouldnt be an issue.

Yeah, it's like a little progress bar that "fills up". The lower message gives you your all time accumulation and usage (might be nice to give a way to reset that). Note that it's weird in Oamir's case because they were helping me gather some data. 🙂 The first message is a more "thematic" message which changes based on the amount you have. Empty stands and arena = 0.

stoic epoch
#

I think this message is throwing me off?
Your heart races as you skillfully channel a flurry of combat actions from an extremely bloody battle into a twisting mossbark bow bearing a helical grip adorned with rusty red rubies. You release some tension as the adrenaline gradually retreats (1 aggression is channeled into your equipment). The aggression doesn't like...fuel my aggro does it?

cloud quiver
#

That's how much you earned for that set of combat, it's like you're redirecting your anger into the weapon to fuel you later. Or at least that's what I was going for. 😆

stoic epoch

So what is the number in the inspect that we look at to determine if we can RUB and how much we'll get?

Added this in tdusk loop. Working fine to maintain buffs
cloud quiver

That's right, the current total is only reflected in the pips and the "flavorful" message at the top of inspect. The lower number is your all-time numbers (accumulated and usage).

cloud quiver

You will need to have the weapons equipped to activate abilities, but at least you can see the aggro as it drains away. It will show the Blood Focus bonus, but that boost will fade even though it may still show the bonus in your mini window. I'll keep... asking about getting it open as quickly as it can. Any last minute testing is appreciated!

cloud quiver
#

Ok, finally some updates and pricing! After a careful review of everyone's great playtesting efforts we've made a few adjustments to the abilities and earning aggro.

For the abilities, it was not the intention to keep them consistently refreshable in situations where you're able to get lots of aggro. So, Final Straw and Bloodbath have independent 120 second cooldowns and Frenzy and Bulwark durations are 15 seconds now. Furor Focus gets a slight boost to the duration potential to between 10-60 seconds and the magnitude of slow will be 3, 4, and 5 seconds at each activation level.

For earning aggro, there are two changes. First, for bloody hit, the weapon will need to be the one used in the attack (or a runestaff in the case of spells). Secondarily, for bloody hit the earning potential is reduced for tiers 1-3: by 50% at tier 1, 35% at tier 2, and 20% at tier 3. There's no reduction at tier 4. The other methods do not have any tier-based reduction.

The pricing will be 75k bloodscrip for Tier 1/OTS. The unlock certificates for tiers 2-4 will be 150k, 75k, and 150k respectively. Attunement will be available for the 25% discount.

Lastly, just a note about the future abilities - I will take those off the wiki as they're not developed and would need to be reviewed (and also, the blacksmith could get run over by a mine cart on the way to Zul Logoth) so feel free to toss out ideas but don't base any purchases on those. Thanks to everyone for the playtesting and suggestions thus far, and a big thanks to Tivvy, Isten, Estild, Auchand, and Nyxus for the work on this release!

Genuine question here, because I have not followed this very closely and am not 100% sure what this script even does, but is this a case where the item is so powerful it needs to be priced accordingly? Seems like with a lot of other things, exceptionally powerful items/materials/scripts come with a higher price tag. Is there a wiki or write up on what each tier offers?

Check the pins, wiki link is there

brazen lion
#

Ah, thank you

supple oasis
#

the combination of nerfing and pricing leads me to believe that there is no chance of getting this to a place where it is worth purchasing.

Animalistic is wonderful for 10k off the shelf, with zero learning curve. Add revenge flares, take it to T4, and go to HESS and swap from grapple to lightning flares, and you have arguably one of the most consistent end game weapons, for 105k, with zero learning curve.

Weaves (and whoever else worked on the design), please keep pushing the boundaries, don't let our disappointment discourage your out of the box design.

I won't be able to engage in any more feedback -- my discouragement spreads well beyond this thread.

desert fiber
#

I mean we all knew it was going to be expensive.

glacial sand
#

what price would you all be willing to pay?

near lake
#

The sticker shock is, at least from my POV, that it's over twice as expensive as the vast majority of current DR script offerings. Even more than briar, which (aside from the aforementioned blink) is probably still mechanically stronger with it's effective +25 persistent AS buff and the strongest flare in the game. I do want to echo Tikba's praise and appreciate the ingenuity of doing something other than "a flare + some cooldowns." I really enjoyed trying to work out a play pattern with the item on test; the build and spend felt pretty good (pre nerf, not sure about now), and the abilities seem impactful. Really cool script, no doubt about that. But mechanically I might only put it moderately above the "standard fare" options in terms of how I imagine it would improve combat, so for whatever it's worth I would've priced it somewhere in the 150-200k range in total.

desert fiber
#

Also 15 seconds for any trigger ability is a tough sell because what are you going to accomplish. I would retract this statement if we get enough aggro to constantly trigger it. Maybe its just a short leash so to speak.

stuck hornet

desert fiber

I do think some cooldown is warranted on the final stand as it seemed like you could get enough aggro to be getting monster hits every few rounds.

#

Almost feels like the nerfed version should be 200k and with 5th unlock for 250k that is like, "you want OP no cooldowns, constant aggro.... have at it with the pre-nerf version"

wintry bridge
#

kaetel's posts pretty much express my view. I think this item would be a lot of fun, but the total price point is extremely high.

in term of the OTS cost: from a runestaff point of view, I think, mechanically, a t1 one of these is probably not vastly more powerful than a t2 sigil or an OTS animal, but it costs 65k more. that's a big leap of faith. similarly on the melee side, 75k is more than I was planning to spend on animal weapons that I'd consider finished. as I recall, when spore staff came out, there was some ability reorganization to try to create an entry-level cost tier. maybe something similar would help here

potent lagoon
#

first one's free, the next one is gonna cost ya

cloud quiver
#

I certainly understand the spirited discussion on price. I just wanted to say when we set out with this idea it was to make a interesting/different combat option, so price wasn't the first thing on our mind. It's also a tricky weapon to evaluate and balance, with that comes a little uncertainty, but also I think leaves lots of space for review, refinement, and improvement. While countless gnolls, fanatics, and other things were killed in the development, it's really all of your testing, findings, and enthusiasm that got it to that point. Even if you don't buy it this run, know that you've set it on a path to where it may make sense at some point.

nocturne marten

I think pricing aside everyone who played with one or helped test really enjoyed thew new flavor that it added to the game. It's always cool to see new and different directions the game can go in.

desert fiber

This could have given sigil a run for the money if you basically got a playstyle driven by "huge hit" potential every few rounds (either single target or AOE) every time you capped aggro but 2 minute cooldown scraps that.

As for pricing, I wouldn’t mind this pricing as the initial DR release, with scaling lower prices over time. I’d like to see that model for more things, I think. Where you pay higher premium to buy early, but scales into lower prices over time.

While briar flares doesn't add to CS, its kind of the standard for AS driven characters.

If I'm melee or ranged, briar script wins out easily. It's not comparable at the announced pricing when compared to briar which is demonstratable to maintain +25 AS and was pushed even higher to 30 AS with the addition of the accessories.

This could be salvaged if Blood Focus and Bulwark were available at tier 1.

Blood Focus Example
Tier 1 +4 AS/+3 CS
Tier 2 +6 AS/+4 CS
Tier 3 +8 AS/+5 CS
Tier 4 +10 AS/+6 CS

Price it like sigil where you can get the casuals in the door at T2/T3 and the last unlock is the big deal meal at 250K for the capstone ability (In this case it would be no cooldown Final Straw and Bloodbath)

Honest Review

Okay for the record I bought a katar and t2 cert -- I tried on a few different characters but it just wasn't generating enough aggro on non capped characters -- duffield fared better, but I'd have to completely change my whole setup to base it around this weapon.. there was certainly a lot of blood.. berserking I think I saw like 6 or 7 things bleeding at once.. none of that got me any aggro though.

I was thinking if the SMRv2 bonus was there, then this would make for an interesting cleric runestaff? Otherwise, I have a lot of good gear as it and Id have to redesign someone to make it fit.

On the bright side, Id never used any katar before, so maybe I will redesign someone and wait until things get ironed out and I could perhaps see it as a script add. So overall, there is some promise, but have to return it for now.

potent lagoon
#

do you think it's a tuning issue with the script?
not that that should change your decision

supple oasis
#

It was definitely a lot more difficult getting to 45, but that of course could be that it was 2/4, the weapon type (katar), and/or the changes.

Definitely becomes a catch-22 of like, really needs to be fully unlocked for the best success, but if you can afford to fully unlock it you probably already have your ideal weapon, and these dont play well with others

cloud quiver
#

Good feedback, I’ve been wondering if the lower DF bases would need a little tweaking or if the extra speed would offset the need for that. How frequent did you get to 45 in a hunt? But yea, at 2/4 it still has the reduction in earn, just for bloody hit. Did you try to mutilate to augment, or the RT is too much?

supple oasis
#

I didn't try mutilating at all but thats because Duffy never had to previously, so it wasn't really in my frame of mind to do so (if I recall it was like one aggro for a 5-ish second RT?). I think maybe a warmage with the lance would be able to use this best.. I never use 515 but I assume that would cut down on whatever mutilate RT there is?

Also I am not sure how it is supposed to all interact, but if say a critter was bleeding (major bleed from using OHE assault), and the bloodloss killed a critter, I didn't get any aggro from it. So that makes me a little concerned about other "indirect" damage sources.. things like earthen fury, 309/335, or damage via empathic link (these were the use cases that would make sense in the characters I have).

I have the very specifc humblebrag problem of not having too many "open" weapon spots to fit this into.. but a character that only uses this weapon, can kill quickly, and maybe that doesn't have good AOE otherwise to benefit from Bloodbath, thats where I see this working best. Hmm also since I was below 45 longer, I see the appeal of blood focus.. but that being tier 4 only is rough.

stoic epoch
#

Is a Katar a low DF weapon? I know they are fast but I thought they were up there (maybe your comment about low DF weapons was not specific to his katar question).

cloud quiver
#

Mutilate should always be 2 aggro for 3-7 seconds of random RT, so long as the creature is within 10 levels of your level (up or down). You should earn from the creature so long as it's direct damage (so earthen fury, 309/335, etc. should be fine), so you're right that blood loss wouldn't give you any. You should get it from the kill if it bleeds to death, but I'll double check that.

stoic epoch
#

I feel almost positive I was getting aggro from killing this with eviscerate on TEST with a dagger when they bled out. But I'm not sure if the aggro amount was correct and based off full damage done or just the initial eviscerate damate.

cloud quiver
# stoic epoch Is a Katar a low DF weapon? I know they are fast but I thought they were up ther...

Yeah they're not always that low, depending on the type of armor, and they're fast too. I'd be happy to take a look at any combat snippets from some of the katar, if you want to DM me @supple oasis. Because the formula factors in the creature's total blood and because of "rounding", it may be that slight tweak could be proposed to ensure the faster weapons are in line with bigger, bloodier hits from the slower ones (in my mind, the same blood loss from two fast hits should roughly equal one bigger bloodier hit). And/or could look at mutilate to balance it out too, maybe that should be faster for the faster weapons. There's lots of dials that can be tweaked. With mutilate, bloodlust, and serenity, the hope was there were lots of strategies that could be employed to keep earning "going".

supple oasis
#

Yeah the katar feels pretty good right out of the gate, at least in terms of DF and all that, and it would only get better with more work done on it.. but thats katar stuff and not aggro in general. In my mind, UCS isn't a good option only because (1) AS (as UAF) isn't as directly beneficial, and like doing assaults it's not going to always be gloves that do the killing (not sure if theres a way to specifiy this).

Yeah it would be great if all the blood damage was calculated in a window of time.. but then I suppose that would mean you would only get aggro every x seconds..

#

Im happy to continue testing and tweaking in TEST environment after DR ends

#

The high HP critters being a brick wall towards aggro is also kinda rough.. to wail away at a golem to only get 2 for the kill.. maybe you could look at some like, "if CritterHealth > x, baseAggro = CritterHealth/200" or something, so that you get a satisfying chunk of aggro on the kill

#

very specifically, you know that one oliphant rider in lord of the rings, when he rolls through and smashes a ton of people.. this is how I feel when I get 5-10 Aggro from a critter.. 2-3 is like "eh, cool", 5-10 is that "oooh yeah" satisfying hit, and getting like 10-15+ from a really good AOE, that's the gooood stuff

cloud quiver
supple oasis
#

Yeah even a boost to aggro upon kill was bigger, that would be more satisfying than like, 1 aggro per 250 damage or something and having it trickle

cloud quiver

For sure, I'll put a proposal together for the frustratingly-large population of golems across the lands!

supple oasis
nocturne marten
#

As a warding pure I probably could have gotten a better handle on using bloodlust with the runestaff to stack aggro better but there was about a 0 chance I was going to mutilate for a 7 second hard RT especially in swarmy ascension zones.

The trade off on using the staff as a warder of having to hunt in advanced stances was interesting (wizard coded) and something that I got used to and could manage since I'm trained in dodge (except that time i forgot about it and embarrassed myself infront of weaves) but I don't know large chunks of hard RT are definitely a harder sell.

sage harness

Mutilate is like "just need a quick bridge" or "this very unfun squishy golem needs to PAY". I had a little bit of fun trying to see how dangerous I could be with it, at least you can be in defensive.
