#[Official] Sailor's Grief
1 messages · Page 5 of 1
That's what happens when you leave the hive with all that stored up astral spark energy and go and fight lightning
Also, Auchand, in case you're checking, this is another bug:
The gem dealer in has received orders from multiple customers requesting a blue-veined volcanic obsidian. You have been tasked to retrieve 10 of them. You can SELL them to the gem dealer as you find them.
"The gem dealer in has received..." In where?
what's the most relevant resistance for a ranger trinket for SG?
I believe that would be lightning
Lightning for sure.
Thanks!
In your dreams!
You cannot bearhug a brackish bilge mass.I have so much love to give!
not sure if asking about mass or nidal. but yes?
I hope I remember how to do this
A scaly needle-toothed trenchling opens her jaws too wide, emitting a keening sound that cuts sharply through the air!
A scaly needle-toothed trenchling races in, eyes glowing fiercely!
A scaly needle-toothed trenchling lifts her head, cocking it as if hearing something in the distance. She abruptly flees, eyes glowing fiercely!
A scaly needle-toothed trenchling races in, eyes glowing fiercely!
A scaly needle-toothed trenchling races in, eyes glowing fiercely!
A scaly needle-toothed trenchling races in, eyes glowing fiercely!
A scaly needle-toothed trenchling races in, eyes glowing fiercely!``` ah yes its all coming back 🥲
Yeah I just left again. Trenchlings are legit OP. I'm not willing to deal with them, lol. Hey I'm in some RT. Oh there's 5 trenchlings now. Oh one hamstrung me and two kneebashed me. Oh I'm dead.
prod ring
I feel weird that those trenchling swarms were my favorite part of SG hunting.
If I walk in and a swarm's already there, fun. If a swarm happens while I'm in RT and kills me and I legit couldn't take any actions, not so fun.
I suppose if I wasn't a cool rogue I would also feel that way.
it's mean out here in these streets
asc buffs when? 😈
The most depressing leveling gains required. MDR ranks for squares and MoC for pures
funny you say that, working on it now specifically because of this place 😁 edit: well also the mongen changes i suppose
Multi Opponent Combat..............| 78 17
yeah i already picked up like 20-25 or whatever on my actually post cap pures but, i might end up doing the full monte now
I honestly don't know how people hunt pures in ascension. Like clearly y'all do it and do it well, but... me? Nope. I'd miss my bag of tricks too much.
yes if only i had some way to cast magic to do things
hey we're not getting new spells! 😁 mdrs to spice up our lives!
it is kinda interesting in that, i think people weirdly overvalue PSM stuff compared to pures cause it's new and shiny. Like the quickest way to explain PSM is like it gave squares muscle magic. The more i'm playing in asc with pures though the more i'm like, i dunno like side eyeing stuff like SMR formulas cause it seems weird to me how i can be like 170 ranks and all the stats, spell aim, etc. and barely have like an 80 margin on stuff (even with a pile of transdest). The PSM equivalent with some cman enhancives feels way more reliable
for me it's more about variety and pushing the limits of the games design than a hunt for like equivalency with weapon techs. we could say clerics / whatever are a finished project and move on ... but then what do we do with ourselves for the next decade 😅
PSM = designed with ascension in mind
Everything else is adapted to work with ascension
I mean ideally real ascension someday instead of getting restless and asking for class reviews just cause. It's ya know, not great that it takes 15 years to finish modernizing every class cause then everyone is mad it's been FOREVER SINCE THEY GOT LUV.
i'm really down for any additions that opens up options for multiple professions for that exact reason. could be asc. could be mdr's. i mention mdr's specifically because they're actively used in development currently and leverage pure skills [and they're cool]
lol oh yes the trenchling swarms are hilarious I remember why I hate it here now
You focus all your will into a berserker's rage that breaks the bindings holding you back!
The redness fades from the world and you begin to breathe harder.
I>warcry cry all
You don't seem to be able to move to do that.``` all not sure what happened with berserk here, this was fun to discover
well... what hit you before that? trechling net? maybe you got netted and kelped, broke the netting but was still bound by the kelp?
berserk should break everything everywhere all at once
and not like should I wish it did, should like it does, so something was up here
was that the oracle terrify maneuver? i know it specifically doesn't break that.
being terrified in battle is exactly what berserking should break lol
that's fun, is that intentional lol? yeah most likely was an oracle
This happened to me and I bugged it. The response I received was that berserk clears the immobility but it doesn't work against terrify so until that wears off you can't move.
Like you, I would think that berserk by design ought to clear this status, but currently it does not.
If you have that force of will gemstone it can do it though, but I would have thought berserk basically was force of will for warriors, heh.
Can someone please help me work through what is the best way to deal with large boxes on SG? I guess this is much a quick travel question as anything else. What are reasonable ways to get to and from the Contempt? Ring the best?
Ring is the best to get from Contempt to the hunting areas. Society ability (eg sigil of return) is best for getting you to the Contempt
Thanks Idalias.
if you have a multisetting ring, this is the perfect place for it. if you only have one ring, i would set it to ring to the "Sailor's Grief" section, aka the shipyard. it's easy enough to find Talon and the Seat while swimming
1020 / 130 / fog brings you back to the contempt … I just ring / gate / swim to th other islands to get back
All the tables belong to us now!
I mean, I love that you’re here, just not at the tables 24/7
ok, i'll log my alts off when i get back
Stormwielder!
||You exclaim, "One more time, with feeling!"
sit throne
As you sit upon the cold, clammy glass of the throne, you feel the tremendous power of the storm trapped within joining with your flesh. With all of your power and presence, you focus on bending the raw elemental forces to your will!
[Result: 111 (d100: 36)]
Might not meant for mortal hands to wield is yours for the briefest of moments, but you can already feel the power slipping free from your grasp. In the space between heartbeats, you command the skies to heed you, peeling away the gloom and shaping the winds to your own design. At last, the otherworldly energies ebb away from your grasp, and you fall from the throne, spent.
Retreating with a last shriek of defiance, the black storm blotting out the sky begins to thin and attenuate, revealing patches of clear blue that mirrors the dazzling azure of the sea. A fair breeze whistles merrily by, chasing away some of the oppressive humidity blanketing the surroundings. Pure white light pulses from the stone of the colossal disc at even intervals, bathing the surroundings in a soft glow.

I already made a darth plageuis joke too recently
Somehow, the Darth Plageuis joke has returned.
Oooh teach me more. ,, what does this do ?
||Best as I can tell, it turned a storm into fair weather, though I didn't time for how long. I'm presuming at the moment it's the SG version of the ME Organ. It didn't leave me any afterbuff either that I could see.||
I wonder what the skills isnecesssry for it to calm the storms … super cool
I honestly dont even know what the storm does other than dump an inscrutable paragraph of MONSTERBOLD at me.. I take 3 seconds to see if it is a script check, realize it isn't and continue on getting pummeled by tentacles
Must be nice not to be effected by the storms..
Can someone spoil what those mummified hearts are for ? I have a few now … just weird they are in monster bold
interesting, i haven't found one since i was one test and i don't believe they were bolded at the time. i haven't seen anything definitive about what they do, i was assuming they were going to be like idols for the wyrm
He said outright no to that.
#1393754345484320848 message
perhaps ||shutting off the throne halts the environmental lightning aoes?||
ah well, the only other thing i've seen is this: #1393754345484320848 message
been hunting here almost exclusively since launch and haven't found one, so what i was truly assuming is that whatever they do do, they didn't do it yet lol 😅
I didn't really want to give everything away but since you guys are talking about it already. Don't read though if you enjoy figuring puzzles out for yourself.

You have to hunt the corsairs, they're the ones that regularly drop them.
interesting, ||i wonder if it also does something on a fishing line or that was just … bait …😁 ||
frankly in this game, i do not enjoy the puzzles, so thank you
No problem. I love the puzzles personally, and I'm not sure that there isn't more to figure out with these things either. There's a few combinations of stuff still to try.
oh a rare drop a la hw.. having never seen one I wouldnt have known heh, not even a puzzle so much as RNG
A scaly needle-toothed trenchling raises a drake greatsword in a clenched, webbed claw and swings it at you!
AS: -671470411 vs DS: +261 with AvD: +29 + d100 roll: +49 = -671470594
A clean miss.``` @idle gale they're not playing fair again 🙁
(the DS is also this crazy number so he just gets to sit there and spam SMR and call a bazillion other trenchies)
can you BUG the creature? which is likely hard to do in the middle of combat
everything looks fine, nothing to see here
I can do it now that I am very dead, and well 10% of my lootcap is sitting there in skins so this will be an interesting rescue lol
not interesting because Keruta saved me like a true hero 😎
When Keruta saves people, does he just pick you up, toss you over the goat and trot back to the Contempt like a little hero?
no i first start with getting beat down right in front of you and making you feel guilty for the rescue 😅
but then i chew through 20 spirit points to not die and it's all good in the hood 😂
I kind of want to come out to SG.
I need to fix my ring anyway.
A scaly needle-toothed trenchling positions himself to attack you.
The evanescent shield shrouding you flares to life and absorbs the oncoming blow.

The ghostly voice of Duffield says, "Oh noooo."
😁
I gotta start logging so I can see why this happens
you don't keep logs?! 😱
Wish I knew what was corrupting it.
never seen that with their td, thankfully 😅
I dunno it seems fair for trenchlings to have negative a couple billion AS. They are super annoying and are dumb fishpeople that seems reasonable. ship it.
for science I shall press on
perhaps you’re the corrupting influence 😈

You need to get on board the "find gemstone in HW then slum it in SoS for loot" meta
Besides for player boat and boat service, what other SG travel options have been added since I last visited? Can we use mount travel or chronomage orb?
Chronomage should allow teleport there at least. Just make the destination a random location in the area cause the storm interferes!
Auchand doesn't even want the "weekend crowd" visiting. You got to be all in on the sailor lyfe.
Was a locksmith pool ever added?
yup
Does that weird artifact still warp you back to the mainland atleast or was that temp?
the obelisk is still there. has a cooldown, which i haven't attempted to figure out. but so few people use it i rarely have issue with the cooldown
I really wish there was a gigas-fragment-like transport option to/from KF.
Seems like a good moment to ask for 740 to please be fixed as well. Not only for travel, but because we cannot SENSE a pattern, we cannot use the only professional ability we have to escape while incapacitated.
There is, you have to collect 20,000 silver fragments 🥁
i’m hoping for log ride part deux at some pount
those are rare drops now!
10 minutes each way is not fast travel!
i don't think i'll bother with SG again until i can horsey there
all of the high-level areas should have an intermediate horsey dropoff point like SoS
it's strange that such a high-cost travel method was implemented and then not used for almost anything
Its just one of those things where you are only guarantted the item in its current condition. I assume all future places need the horse travel guru to add code which isnt always priority or expected. It would be nice though!
mount travel to talon would be
completely unbais opinion 😁 🐐
50,000,000 silver vs. 20,000 silver. that's 2,500 trips! Or almost 7 years if you travel there once a day!
sometimes i feel like they are not committed to selling horse upgrades
well it was fun getting open roll instakilled a half dozen times but time to go back to civilization to get my one HW gemstone and then to sanctum 🎉
I assume it's been tried but any chanceTemple Nelemar: Perfect Conduction works in SG water rooms?
If only.
that would require them to touch the gemstone system
the spell sever mechanic stripped all my extra spells while sitting at a table, has that always been a thing?
100% of grief is flagged spell sever pretty sure. i know people asked about that before to maybe ease it up on the contempt for if you're doing like picking or whatever potentially but, nothing came of it.
Yeah it happens on the contempt and it's super annoying, especially when it strips an x/day.
because there wasn't enough ways to die already? I needed this random LOL U R DEAD open roll crap at 2am? What even is this?

I seriously am so sick of open roll BS deaths. "one more hunt before bed, I'll be extra careful" NOPE here's a death caused by something I have ZERO CONTROL OVER just because!
I can sell you some Bard Luck
You do have control over it, you could simply not hunt in SG
This is a game where you try to kill monsters and they try to kill you. Sometimes they succeed.
Believe it or not, they actually added a base magical redux to every character to help offset these kinds of deaths about a year or so ago due to ME and HW open roll crits killing pretty much everyone on a semi-regular basis. They're MUCH more survivable now than they used to be.
At the upper end, they expect people to have damage resistance gear, max redux, enhancives that up the individuals crit threshhold, ascension increases, padding of all types, flourishes, etc. so to some degree these creatures are designed to make it challenging for individuals rolling these types of loadouts.
I've only had one non-lightning base open roll crit death in SG to a sonic maneuver that the harpies do, and maybe 5 total deaths since it opened, mostly open roll lightning but the lightning nerve crit theshhold is pretty low compared to other crits which is why it tends to happen more.
The best way to avoid those deaths that I've found is immediately disable a creature that you know poses that kind of threat, or if you can't do that, retreat and re-engage it when you can. That being said, some of the SG creatures throw SMR based attacks on entry (kelpies can sleep you on gen) so to some degree it's about general survivablity.
Bro murdered you with his rizz, not many better ways to go really.
You get use to it …
To be honest… I thought ME was pretty brutal with the open rolls when I went back a few weeks ago to master Voln.
I was beyond excited to go back to SG even tho I was already getting to soft cap loot in ME over a week.
Spend money until you only die when 14+ mobs pile up and you're RT locked.
I still dont even know what it actually WAS
It was an MDR attack
It's their SMR attack that calms you, though it killed you before the calm affect hit.
it's basically a magical maneuver
Clearly he undulated at you then finished with a light show.
also that is NOT how I wanna be "murdered w rizz" 😮💨
We do not always choose the method of our demise.
(also why does this channel have slowmode!?)
it's a discord mdr attack
also it was disabled at the time so that doesnt appear to prevent it
(also yes slowmode here is odd)
ALSO. while I'm venting. can we talk about HOW MUCH PRIMORDIALS MOVE ROOMS?!
why the heck I gotta divert the same primordial 187 TIMES while killing one other thing because it keeps coming back in the room?! 😭
They just wanna be your friend
Ma'am... I gotta ask the obvious question.
Why were you out in the open where it could see you!?
DOST THOU EVEN VANISH?
a girl's only got so much stamina...
I hear they make pots for that.
pots? like for cooking?
Um... no?
I'm not fully unconvinced that some creatures, primordials being the biggest standard gen culprit, might actually track players across rooms. I know the Wyrm can do this, and I suspect HW disciples try, but it feels like primordials do as well. Usually I have to break multiple rooms aways from them to keep distance if I don't want to down them.
I hate it. I may have exaggerated with 187 times, but I will often have to divert the same monster 5+ times while I am finishing off a different one that I disabled. It is such a stamina drain and SUPER irritating.
Until I can get my wooden weapon up and going a bit I basically just shield bash and shield throw them to death, which also takes a lot of stamina, but atleast I don't get shocked doing it since my shield is wooden. The bash keeps them RT stacked too. This only really becomes a problem with multiples for me.
I tried a wooden weapon but couldnt hit them with it. I think I need it enchanted or something. so I just divert and avoid them. (edit because stupid slow mode)
Yeah, I have a vampire-wood seax but it's also not high enough of an enchant to hit them regularly, and that's rolling all my standard AS boosts, but the seax is only +15, once I get it to 7x I should be able to hit them fairly decent.
Needs the +Magic tag applied to it which you could accomplish with even a +1 enchant. (+Magic is a stupid, dated mechanic they won't dump for some reason)
but isn't wood like -5 or something to start with? so I'd need a bunch of enchant
I'm not sure it needs to have a +1 bonus, just have any enchanting done to it. It should have a super low gear difficulty and you could get the cheapest baby wizard enchant essence to try it.
oh hmm
Type Combat
Magical creatures need the weapon to simply have the enchanted marker. It's not about the overall bonus. There's a HESS certificate I believe that also can take a non-magic item and make it magical.
The HESS cert is really only worth considering for things that can't be enchanted like greaves. Definitely don't use one on a weapon. Pay a level 25 wizard like eleven silvers to channel 925 at it once.
I run into this problem when I try to UCS every now and then but I don't wear magical boots/gloves. I just watch my swing wiff and remember why I hate UCS
I recently enchanted both of Jaired's modwir daggers to +1 to handle that
Took like two pours of green wizard guild pots
if I can ever manage to isolate a primordial, I find theyre super easy to UCS ambush down.. they spend half the time searching/pointing me out and never get a hit off until 30 trenchlords show up
Hey, hey guys, I know it's the 15th so no one's finding loot but I need some indigo seaglass if you happen to get lucky. ❤️
Gems found because Keruta is a hero ❤️
i’ll keep an eye out
A precarious ledge juts out from the middle of the stone wall just over an arm's breadth away from deep niches in the black stone. Winks of gold and other precious metals flash from the darkness of several of the crevices. A single such recess might be the work of nature, but the even procession of them suggests the use of tools. Above, the cliff face is smooth, offering little purchase for climbing beyond a few slick handholds. In some places it appears smooth as volcanic glass. You also see a scaly needle-toothed trenchling, a scaly needle-toothed trenchling, a scaly needle-toothed trenchling, a scaly needle-toothed trenchling, a fulminating stormborn primordial, a cats-eye moonstone, some silver coins, a dark brown triton shell, a dark brown triton shell, a cats-eye moonstone and a kelp-tangled coral golem.

Okay but how come they get stuck in this room if there's no players in there. They NEVER LEAVE THAT ROOM. But if I'm IN the room? No matter how many times I send them out of the room, they move in and out constantly.
sigh I give up, it's so STUPID trying to trenchlings in that freaking part of the island
Even if I can safely get in and start diverting to thin the numbers so I can start killing?

They just do that stupid crap that they can do even when bound/stunned so what does it even matter. I'll burn my entire stamina bar sending them out of the room just for one to call them all back.

Sometimes we get "lucky" with a quicker death:
>
A fulminating stormborn primordial streaks forward faster than the eye can see, leaving smoking plumes behind as its jagged tendrils propel it aggressively into the fray.
Jagged tendrils of electricity unfurl from a fulminating stormborn primordial. It spins violently, sending them whipping outward in a fizzling spiral!

Not exactly sure if that faint lucky feeling was mine or the primordial's, haha.
I forget what does this but Ive had it happen a few times as well
Are corsairs only in Singing Crags?
they come down from the crags, but they’re only on talon. not in the seat or shipyard
I'm finding them exceedingly uncommon based on where I'm hunting them.
their numbers tend to be lower compared to other stuff, but i still find them reliably in the crags and lower talon
Looking at my bounty analytics, it took me 164 minutes to spawn a danagerous one. A cull took 85 minutes. Another 80 minute cull. Currently about 50 minutes into a current dangerous bounty as well. Which is absolutely insane compared to my normal bounty completion time.
Yeah bounties definitely take some time and effort to complete here
I think maybe I understand why now they were not included originally in culls or dangerous bounties.
They really don't.

plenty of whelks to go around. the corsairs have a very rare drop, so that may be why their numbers are lower. that being said i typically run necro and hardly ever get that bounty so it hasn’t been an issue for me
I"m about to drop corsair from accepted bounties. That's an insane time investment compared to everything else, on average of 6x-10x for some of the culls. Unless of course I'm just not in the right area, but I'm all over the crags.
again they can spawn on all of talon, so if there isn’t one in the crags come down and check the beach
not every bounty can be good though, eh. i don’t accept golem bounties myself for much the same reason
Yeah, I think that they are too rare to make sense to accept. I just ran the beach and no luck there either.
i love me a trenchling bounty though. with a necro ring it can sometimes be accomplished with one good 335
We made a mistake homie! Check your times on corsairs.
Appreciate the chat, Keruta. Helps me sanity check that I'm scanning the right area.
Bad day to to check, had some hangup issues.... I've killed 66 in 22 hours though!

Only 110 kills of a corsair. About 1 per hunt, with an average hunt time of 4.5 minutes
@idle gale , I think we made a mistake requesting that corsair were part of the bounty system. Can you take pity on us and either remove them/reset back to the original factory settings for corsair bounties or increase their spawn rate?
Hrm.
I can also decline those bounties too, so it's got an easy solution that way if you don't think that removing the bounties makes sense.
I find corsairs all the time in the singing crags.
Seems a bit crazy I've killed more tentacles than corsairs or oracles:
| corsair | 2805 |

+---------------------------+-------+```
Anecdotal, anecdata, or the real deal? 1.7% is incredibly low considering that I hunted there for over 10 hours today.
I also kill a lot of Corsair’s
But I also don't specifically target just them, I tend to clear most things in my way.
Nothing is off limits, I kill everything there.
I kill everything that's in whatever zone I'm in for my bounty. Except for Ashur, he's off limits.
For me, if I'm hunting corsairs,, whelks, or harpies, I stay in the singing crags and cruise the trees and below. Seem to find quite a few of all of that with some primordials mixed in. I've gotten a lot more shark hearts off of the corsairs lately too.
same. if i stay up in the singing crags i find plenty of them in my experience.
If I want trenchlings I'll drop below or go out to the seat of storms, golems at the seat as well. Primordials I don't tend to chase yet though I've been working on a weapon for them.
I wonder what the delta is then.
I find bounties hardest on the Mageborn and co. section simply because of the room breaks and having so wide a diversity of creatures.
are you in shattered? is it possible shattered would have a different spawn rate? i also realize i have no way to get actual data and i'm sure i do fewer bounties overall.
(but i know corsair bounties don't take me 80 min)
what is a lot of shark hearts? I am also finding these to be incredibly rare. Like I've found 2-3 in the entire time I've been in SG
Yeah, Pandin and I are Shattered.
I've found about 3-4 in the last few times I've hunted there. prior to that I found none, but I also didn't know what dropped them at that point. I think they're probably close to the idol drop rate of mutants in the HW

According to the electric crit table, he should of had the rank 8 messaging for a 30 point damage instead of just the rank 6 messaging.. does that mean it he actually mitigated a couple crit rank damage levels (2)?
afaik all the damage indicators in crit tables are how much damage they add from regular attacks / bolts, basically. And other attacks from SMR, spells, etc. use different numbers that is (almost?) always more like 5 * crit rank. Casting 409/415 for instance you don't get all those weird numbers that are on the lower ranks for instance it's 5/10/15/etc up to 45 or maybe 50 if it's a rank 9 (rank 1's might be 3 or something i forget)

Covert arts, there are gemstones that help, and the biggest one is that in ascension areas the expectation is that you're grouped ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Is that the expectations? I thought groups made it too easy and that’s why they introduced CA

It's an Ascension hunting ground, and we're still not done tuning everything. But overall, you should be well past cap. A lot of things get tossed around as expectations, and they evolve as the process moves along. Solo hunting is expected in ascension areas. Ascension areas are for elite hunting no matter how many of you there are.
I'd expect Ascension hunting to diverge even more from regular hunting over time.
but hopefully it doesn’t Diverge
What is regular hunting?

GMs designing Ascension areas:
"what would make this area engaging and difficult?"

"I expect to never die."

don't mind dying when it's an actual mistake I made. gets pretty frustrating when it's just the game design randomly deciding to flip a middle finger with no chance at all to do anything.

It’s not about never dying, it’s just that open rolls feel cheap.
pretty sure if that were a thing in like any other game ever, there would be mass reviews calling it "broken" but hey
Yeah the game's hard. Open rolls happen.
What armor are you using on that?
ya'll die?
"hard" implies that a player's skill can affect the outcome. like a Souls-like!
open roll instant kills aren't "hard." they're cheap, and broken.

still found no hearts. the corsairs kills are racking up
I actually agree that I think there should be at some point a cap to open roll. Sometimes it is just ridiculous, though usually for me it's the lightning crits. Right now though I just roll with it under the consideration that it's currently what is considered to be the hardest hunting ground in the game.
Open rolls feel cheap because they’re random, no skill involved, and steps you can take to mitigate or prevent the risk is minimal. That’s all.
It’s not about being hard, or never dying. It’s something you accept with playing the game but that doesn’t make it a well designed, thoughtful, or engaging experience when it happens.
It was worse before they gave everyone automatic magical dux.
they don’t personally bother me much; the creatures need a chance to win 😈
and as far as flavor goes, SG has some of the best ways to die. sharknado to the eye? a good death is its own reward
Just give them xaz weapons.
why are you like this
so when are we sharking the waters? people are saying the swim is boring
If it's good enough for players! besides, it's only reasonable to assume that if they've killed players who own those weapons, some of them at some point or another would have fallen into the hands of the creatures.
merrow should pop on spells again, i don’t have any spines flying my way since test 😈
I'm still waiting for them to come out with a creautre that absorbs 506 and or Tonis from those using it and it increases their attack round.

How'd that work out?
gave me a good scare, but i lived
Yeah, that's how I feel when a kelpie/merrow? sleeps me on entry, just have to take the shot and hope for the best.
You kinda just get use to the open rolls and accept them after … like the 40th time … it just happens and literally the price to pay for “hard” content
My only beef with SG is that … some of the “fun” of risk vs rewards starts to have diminishing returns the longer you hunt there.
I.E. more fun in the beginning of the month before you get into soft cap
yeah, the 20k transport eats into profits pretty badly by the end of the month
WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS
can u activate ur armor on him again pls
he needs a corner so he can think about what he's done
"A gangsta shark with his Xazaartadsfs tooth displayed bites down on your ankle"
maybe we teach the trenchlings spell thieve
That’s the biggest issue with the game in general. There is no risk vs. reward for “hard” content
I died more times in one night of WoW raiding than I’ve died in my entire GS career.
Stop standing in the happy green fun gas in raids!
I just wanna say again that if any other game had "sometimes you randomly die just because," gamers and reviews everywhere would be calling it buggy and broken.
I think we'd all agree Gemstone is kind of its own thing, and that's part of why most of us love it. For better of for worse, the state of GS combat is such that without SMR and open rolls, a huge number of people would just never, ever die
NO, MUST TOP DPS CHARTS!
Possibly, but in these lands… open rolls aren’t just “because” or “random” but an intentional design
Plenty of games have essentially the same mechanic.
Pretty much any strategy type game (xcom) you can can lose that 99% to hit roll, the enemy unit passes their 10% to hit roll now you're out of position that unit dies the whole encounter crumbles
any deck building game, you just get the only losing draw order. looking at you asdlkjasdlkjasdlkjs slay the spire.
any action game that have bosses with RNG attack patterns you can just get the absolute hardest combination to dodge for the situation. Like sure it's marginally better if you're legitimately great at the game you could overcome it but, that just doesn't apply for 95% of the players so it doesn't matter. This legitimately comes up all the time in speedrunning (and obviously exacerbated by them playing said games with much thinner margins of survival to eek out seconds)
Unfortunately timed crits/debuffs/etc. from bosses in an MMO, or really unfortunate randomly applied mechanics (like oh, every healer on the main tank got randomly picked for the teleport to the negarealm)
I’m going to be honest about the open rolls on their side … one of the reason why I like hunting SG is because of that one element.
You have to maximize and have risk in every engagement because the mobs are able to open roll you.
Was just saying you get use to it when the environment takes you out a few dozen times. Or when you get an environment buff that activates spell severance.

Because we have such linear combat resolutions in some areas, I think open rolls may be necessary just to provide any variety to the experience.
I do wish they didn't so frequently result in an auto-kill, though.
i don't envy trying to stay ahead of our power curves 😁
Every combat system should get open rolls or none of them should.
Every combat system should get open rolls Let's do it
Gross
Primordials DS remains too high
maybe they could be statistically biased toward non-lethal injuries.
but definitely stunned, prone, etc., to increase likelihood of death
I was thinking that same. Perhaps set up a table that reduces crit threshholds based on the amount of post 100 endroll the open roll achieves. That way it will still hurt but not necessarily be lethal unless you're a lightweight on health or already wounded elsewise.
Having reached close to hard cap plus 3 gemstones for the month already, I’ve taken myself back to Sailor’s Grief over the past several days. I really enjoy the challenge.
For context, year to date hunting HW nonstop I had zero legitimate deaths excluding the wyrm (1 or 2 disconnects but those don’t count). I’ve already had one death and several very close calls in Sailor’s Grief just since I’ve been here most recently. The seat area is particularly challenging and really requires some focus to play well.
Please keep making harder content like this - it’s so much better than mindless buzzsaw killing (I actually think HW is a fantastic area… it’s just gotten way too easy for me now).
I like SG I just hate the swimming, and I’m not interested in tying my hunting to a consumable or spending big bucks on a multi ring so I bailed months ago. If the swimming ever becomes less terrible I’ll be back
I use gold rings. You can buy them in the pawnshop for 2k each. It’s really a minimal amount of upkeep!
I bugged the fact that 740 doesn’t work. I’m still hoping it’ll be fixed because the swim is a bit annoying.
SG is incredibly fun and challenging.
Minimal is more than zero so I’m still out. I’m ok being weird for that.
SG wasn’t the only reason i bought a multiring, but it really shines here 😁
I get it. We are all a little weird!
Back at it in SG the last couple days. The swimming's still annoying, but the area is a lot of fun and I am glad that it exists
I stuck a couple gold rings for each island in a different container. Now I never have to swim.

I've seen a bug come up where a player claimed that they only get bilge bounties in Sailor's Grief. Is this still the case or can people vouch that they're getting other creatures?
i get all sorts of bounties.
I've gotten mariners, trenchlings, skins, etc. for a full mix the last few days
Kk.
I get a bunch of corsairs and bilge.
i get all different ones
so um, how do I get to Sailors Grief?
By boat. Or buy boat.
You take the boat from Surde's pier in Marshtown, it's 20k with a rate decreasing per additional person.
damn, I ported to sleeping drake harbor
Once you get there, you'll land on Talon isle, which IS a combat zone area so if you want to get to the town area, you'll have to fog or port, or swim spicer's sea on the western shore. That will take you to the Contempt which is a ship that acts as home base for the hunting ground.
From there you'll have to swim or teleport by some kind of anchor(familiar gate, gold ring, etc. ) to one of the other hunting zones.
this onslaught stuff better be worth it
Probably not, unless you find a group.
Did you do the Onslaught quest? If not, you won't be able to board the skyships even if you make it to SG
I made it to the contempt
Not really, but try to avoid lightning since there are water rooms and it can lead to bad consequences.
someone should petition the Artificer's to like open a portal or something to the area that the onslaughts are happening...more defenders means less likely we are all unpaid workers for the Empyreans at the end of the day
Learning lots of lessons here over the past day.
- wind can take my head off and there's nothing I can do about it.
- tentacles hit really hard, also taking my head off
- there's a friendly Skeletal albatross that will bring my body back to the Comtempt.
- You can wield the powers of CHARL!
how do I get from the Contempt to a place I can get back to the mainland?
you swim to talon isle, you jump off the se corner of the main deck
is it mapped out, so that once I land in the water, I can see where I'm supposed to go to get to Talon Island? and will 101 ranks in swimming be enoough?
no because the contempt moves, you use sense and then swim the opposite direction. 101 ranks should be fine watch your stamina though.
60 ranks of swimming is enough really.
Confused by this: ```>l
[The Contempt, Main Deck - 35595] (u7150605)
Near a driftwood trestle table erected on the ship's grey-green deck, the railing has given way to permit a dangerous but thorough view of the ocean and the ship's starboard hull. Despite the great age of the vessel and its considerable disrepair, there are the bones of a sleek and predatory ship beneath the decay. The timbers around her portholes are painted in silver gilt and emerald lacquer to form radiating streamers of kelp. You also see a tiny resolute elf-owl (flying) and a dead halfling pirate.
Obvious paths: south, west
loot pirate
Geez! It's still alive! Not a good time for that.```
Also, any possibility of a town cleric at this location: [The Contempt, Fo'c'sle - 35599] (u7150603) A stately figurehead of algae-spotted oak juts from the prow, its carved figure that of a nixie with proudly imperious features. Salt-encrusted rigging drapes across weathered rails, where paint flakes off in ragged hanks like peeling flesh to reveal rusted metal underneath. Obvious paths: northeast, southeast?
Not "a halfling pirate who appears dead" kthx.
Halfling names are the best names.
This is a dumb question because I've been here so long. How do you leave? The Obelisk is one option, is the other only using your boat with the dock handler? Is there a non-OSA way aside from the Obelisk?
I posted that on the wiki yesterday. NPC dock, 20,000 silver, north of the Obelisk at the docks
ship broker works to get to them as a go2 target (same with the guy in Solhaven to get there as a non-osa ship ride) once you’re on talon. The room is weirdly unmapped (visually). Really should update that and call out “this way home” so people referencing it can at least see where the dude is.
The NPC dock master returns only works if you took a ship that way to Talon to begin with … if you arrived by OSA.. it won’t allow you to return back
I'll add that bit to the wiki
