#Advice to your 12 year old self…

It is dark. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
Ranger actually use magic, moron, otherwise you're just an inefficient warrior without cool tricks
Don't reroll your character 5x after getting to level 30-40 because you want to switch weapon types. Fixskills will be a thing eventually
Stop. Turn back. This is your last chance. Don't do it.
that name you think is super cool, is not!
I’d stuff my lockers to the brim with all sorts of weird stuff, ICE age gear, etc. and plan to profit 30 years later!!
Multiple opponent combat doesn't actually do anything for like 5 more years
Winner
I still have my original Zork games in the boxes, loved those things
You travel back in time to 1994, you see yourself, getting ready to roll up your first character. What do you say to yourself? I see I am 5 years too late...
don't spend all your premium points on 10x armor or any 10x padded/weighted item.
I would wonder where the other three years went, and why I was 12 in 1994... I want my time back Leff, you can't have it!
I would ask myself how HE learned to time travel since he didn't start until 1995. Then I'd tell him to wait until AOL goes unlimited as it will save him hundreds of dollars. On second thought, I'd tell him to have at it because after this, I'm heading back a bit further and buying a bunch of Apple shares for a buck each.
yahoo, you have to remember yahoo
And bitcoin
knowing my stupid behavior I would lose the drives it was stored on.
When they were like a penny each, a friend of mine told me I should get a bunch because it was going to be big. I scoffed. :::sigh::: I scoffed. 😦
"Just pay the $40->$50 per month every month. Those PP will be worth every penny."
12 Year Old Self, do everything you can to save and preserve your logs. There will come a day when your friends are long gone and at least with logs, you can revisit those old times again in some small way.
These logs would become more valuable to you than any fish spine sword ever could be.
oof this hits hard👆
I had all my old logs on a backup hdd that crashed badly a few years ago, depressed me quite a bit
RIP.... gotta move everything to the cloud
(But also, genuinely sorry, that sucks)
Air gapped and off-site
Should have moved them to an ssd, just lazy
one of those things you don't think about until it's gone
Basically, do still have my poster sized copies of Zepath's maps i printed of a plotter a billion years ago
nice!
Lots of notes on em
I still have a binder full of a bunch I printed off. In the days of ;map it seems silly, but those things kept me from getting lost quite a bit.
Skull and crossbones where my first death was, storm hound just past the sign before Arachne's Temple
Bad place to get lost, especially at level 10 when we had dropped
pretty sure mine was from a vysan because their pound was OP
or maybe now that I think about it, the goblins and lesser orcs were pretty rough on the mine road without decent gear.
Mine was while hunting rats in the catacombs, a brown spinner randomly showed up and might be the only time I've seen one of those in game
I vaguely recall them being an invasion critter weren't they?
Man, I'm wracking my brain trying to remember the empath that saved me. I remember she was married to Lurch...
Lurch I remember, but I didn't pay alot of attention to empaths back then.
When I first started I didn't know much about spells from various classes and didn't make a ton of silver, so I spent a lot of time dying in lesser orcs. Cru and Agni were the two who rescued me most of the time. It wasn't until years later when I knew much more that I really appreciated the seriousness Cru took in chasing down whatever had grabbed my normal broadsword and shield. lol.
I'm still bitter about losing my brand new set of vultite ohe and shield combo in ghoul masters >_>
Until Simu ruined it, the original Ghoul master groups were my all time favorite hunting grounds. So much roleplaying and comradery there at pretty much all hours.
drag chest ne, yell CHASING! MINE!
I'm still bitter that they enlarged that hunting area.
I am so thankful they enlarged most of the GY hunting areas. Miners was criminally small to begin with
Yeah. My paladin is hunting miners now. They're only 11+ levels over my head. Easy peasy!
^_^ nurf pallies
lol The steel katana doesn't hurt. Undead are sorta my wheelhouse.
Ylena, future bard... ranger etc
Hmm, that doesn't sound familiar... maybe Lurch was married more than once.
Possible though I don't recall it, but I never paid big attention to that either
Would have been 1996 and 16 for me, and I think the only GS-facing advice I would give my younger self would be: Buy the custom private property the instant it goes up for sale on the future Simustore, you won't get another chance at one.
Beyond that, I don't think I'd want to say anything that would change anything. For better or worse, it's all been the experience of being a part of Elanthia's story.
I like what I paid for my workshop vastly more than those insane simucoin prices
I'm sure I would as well! Though, I don't have either option. So, I'd go for the later if I could.
Don’t ever try gemstone… no mater what everyone says…. Never play gemstone….. crack is wack!
If only I was 12 years old in 1994. By that date I'd already been on GEnie a couple years and playing mostly Gemstone & MPBT3025. I'd already been stationed and returned from Europe after almost a decade. Been married a few years, had a couple kids. No fair the 1996 restart button is too late for me!
More seriously I'd have done a lot of things different if it was all those years ago and I was just starting GS. I'd have gone to more SIMUCONs for one in those early days. I've have not re-rolled so @#@# much or at all. I'd have kept more logs and not decided I wasn't returning and tossed all the ones I did have in 2015 ish, if I recall the year correctly.
Less drama, I'd' have avoided Imperial entanglements more than I did. To make a Star Wars joke. I'd have basically tilted at less windmills, know your battles and know when to just walk away. I'd have bought @Erek and his wife and other staff (some who had been friends from the MPBT302 who joined staff) dinner for putting up with all of us and I'd have recommended those same friends to pace themselves so they wouldn't burn out and leave GS.
Basically, I'd have approached GS much more laid back and would have tried to just soak in the experience more. Oh and I'd tell @Ardwen don't bid on the airship! ((cackle))
Bidding wasn't the issue, the customer service was, not like the silvers mattered then any more than they do now. Should have told me to play more Dragonbones. I made a fortune on it in the early days.
Heh. Which is why I'd have pushed for you to not bid on it. It wasn't the silver or bidding. It was everything afterwards. 🙂
Some people haven't changed either, ah well. live and learn.
I'd haff sent a postcard to sumpbody dat read:
Dont eber mix yer Cerbantes anna George Lucas metaphors! 😉
or do, we're not your mother.
Maybe I wanna tilt at windmills riding a bantha with a lightsaber
