You analyze the leather hat and sense that the creator has provided the following information:

This hat is a Fisherman's Hat.  It is designed to be decorated with a gem, feather, gem insect or sea creature, fishing lure, pointed item or fastener, or other miscellaneous item.  Miscellany includes foraged items, skins, shells, and other larger non-gem treasure items.  The hat has several distinct descriptions, or "sides," depending on what item is inserted.  To insert an item, hold the hat in one hand, the item you'd like to insert in the opposite hand, and PUSH hat.  PULLing the hat will remove the item and restore the hat to its empty description.  You may also TURN the hat to adjust the brim, which is used in messaging, and GLANCE at it, alone or with a target, and also with an optional style as listed in the GLANCE verb usage.  You could have a merchant add a custom brim option to the rotation.

This hat does not have the Fisherman Tier unlock.

This hat does not have the hair quirk feature altering unlock.

Alteration Guidelines:
While each side is highly customizable, both the noun and material need to remain the same for all sides.  Sides not displayed below cannot be used until a description is added by a merchant.

The sides currently are:
           Short: leather hat
             Gem: a weathered leather fishing hat graced by <full>
         Feather: a weathered leather fishing hat graced by <full>
         Fishing: a weathered leather fishing hat graced by <full>
         Ribbons: a weathered leather fishing hat graced by <full>
  Insect/Aquatic: a weathered leather fishing hat graced by <full>
  Pointed/Clasps: a weathered leather fishing hat graced by <full>
      Miscellany: a weathered leather fishing hat graced by <full>```

On the wooden stand you see a herringbone tweed fishing hat, a weathered leather fishing hat, a colorful oilcloth fishing hat, a drab canvas fishing hat and a silvery fish-shaped certificate.

You turn over your fish-shaped certificate.  The fish-shaped certificate will unlock the fishing tier (DAYDREAM, OBSERVE, PEER, and REST verbs) on a Fisherman's Hat.  TURN the certificate to instead unlock the hair quirk feature-altering ability.

There was a bug report for the Jeepers Creepers birds not working with the hat. This is not a bug. They are blocked from working from Veola, Deck the Halls, Creative Coutures and Fisherman's Hats because existing items may have designs inappropriate for birds. They will need to be a separate item.

Yep, this hat combined with fish gems has made my entire EG.

He has a wrinkly, pallid scalp devoid of hair engulfed by a floppy sailcloth fishing hat shaped like an oversized three-eyed catfish, the tooth-adorned edge making it look like a creature devouring his head.

if the Only thing you are changing is "graced by", then a merchant should be able to do it in one shot, but it may vary from merchant to merchant. also, if you request anything else then it might be more limited.

i might have to bring around a fishing expert merchant to work on them, if people are enjoying them this much though 😄
